Props for "small sample size" in the title ;-) At least someone who doesnt just spit % left and right as a click bait. I mean obviously, it still is, but at least u gave it a fair "warning" ;-)
Btw i played a variation of this as well few days ago, it did fairly well even without Aluneth (since i dont have it). Obviously i went into topdeck mode relatively often, but since its a tempo/burn deck, it was usually fine. So yeah, the deck is pretty good for laddering from 20>5 at least.
Yeah, I try to be honest ... 24-4 is impressive but it doesn't mean anything as a statistic *shrugs*.
Agreed, if you don't have Aluneth the deck is still quite good, and I actually make that point in tomorrow's video. You're going to struggle with running out of gas in certain matchups, but you could try something else (like The Lich King) to give you value to maybe get over the hump. I'm not sure LK is actually a good choice as he's going to give you some weak cards (Army of the Dead, Doom Pact), but I'm just using him as an example. Someone earlier in the thread mentioned using Pyroblast, which hey, if you don't have Aluneth, might as well try it.
BTW I think this deck is good enough to hit legend with. I at least plan to try, currently at rank 4 with it, though I am going to experiment with Tempo Rogue deck lists for a bit in the near future too.
Yeah, i used Pyroblast instead, since u will be in a topdeck mode often, a 10 dmg reach is a pretty good substitute to help u close out the game.
Mirror matches or mages in general will be a bit tricky tho, since u have to get rid of Counterspell/Spellbender/Ice Block before using the pyro, tho it shouldnt be that hard.
I suppose u could put another secret in there instead to help u trigger the combos more reliably. I think i actually put one Mirror Entity in there iirc after i had a mirror match where my opponent played it and i didnt expect that and gave him Ethereal Arcanist ... that move literally lost me the game lol :P but i suppose its a decent play in other match ups as well.
I don't want to be rude but this is literally the cookie cutter Secret Mage. It's an easy to play Smorc deck that relies on drawing a good curve and then just playing the cards on curve and mostly ignoring the opponent. This archetype has been played for quite a while and people have merely switched out Entity for the Smorc-perior Runes and one of the big threats for Aluneth.
I struggle a bit to understand why you're using a cookie cutter, known high tier deck to promote your YouTube. I think people appreciate more original, interesting/goofy/interactive deck designs that feature some of the new, cool things added this expansion. Explosive Runes and Aluneth aren't thrilling; they're just Smorc mor cards.
A deck like this is bound to be particularly strong early in the meta, since a lot of people are still being greedlords. That both makes aggro more effective in general, and Secret Mage in particular has always been very good against decks that rely on AoE spells to handle aggro. I expect this deck to perform significantly worse once tempo takes over (as it always does) and bad matchups like Aggro Paladin becomes more common.
1: People also like decks that win. Right now, piloted properly, this deck wins. A lot. People played it pre-k&c too but it wasn't very good then, tier 3 at best.
2: The deck feels cookie cutter because there's really only 4 cards that you can swap out: Ice Block, Firelands Portal, and maybe Aluneth. So when 26 cards are kind of set in stone, the decks feel a little 'same' and what you do with those four slots becomes more important. People waste those slots on things like Corridor Creeper (bad in this deck and in tempo rogue IMO, good in Zoo / Aggro Pally / Shaman / maybe Dragon Priest w/ big spells) and I'm trying to steer them correct.
If you don't like the deck, don't play it. If you don't like my youtube, don't watch it. But don't question why someone would advertise a deck that wins a lot.

There are a lot of people in this world and stating that you know what each and every one of them likes is presumptuous. There are a lot of players who will watch a video about secret mage and like it and go and try to build/play it. Some might get some ideas from it. Some will just like to watch a certain you tuber. There are plenty of other reasons to watch his you tube video. I love this deck by the way (I still play with Aluneth and Medivh).
I appreciate when someone posts a deck they like and when others suggest changes and a conversation ensues about what and why to replace cards. I also appreciate your view of what you think is fun.
Just because I like to throw a ball and have my dog fetch it doesn't mean the person who likes to watch a cat stalk something and pounce on it is wrong. Just different tastes.
Thanks for the kind words Evigrof, and for your thoughtful response -- I appreciate your support!
GratedWasabi, for the record, I don't think you were being rude, and I hope you don't think I was being rude in response. I also like the decks you were talking about, the new interactions, etc. I follow Disguised Toast and Kibler 100% for those reasons. But, right now, that is not my focus. Right now I'm trying to spur discussion and hit legendary again. I'm doing it with this deck, and I'm having good success with it. So, here are some videos. Watch them or don't. :)
BTW this deck is 'easy to play' compared to say, Razakus, just because there are fewer decisions to make, and therefore fewer opportunities to make the wrong decision. But, if you think it 'plays itself' or you can get a high win percentage by 'ignoring your opponent', you're 100% wrong. There are also new players who don't understand the deck at all. I had a person ask me on the deck thread why Sorcerers Apprentice was in the deck -- this is probably an obvious "duh" inclusion to most people who play the game, but to new players it might not be obvious. Videos like this help those players.
Glad it's working out for you. To be fair, I did hit a little bit of a wall with it at rank 3 -- the meta is something like 40% priest at rank 3 right now and this deck is unfavored against them. So, if you start hitting a bunch of priests, you might want to switch to Aggro Pally.
And yeah, piloted properly you should be able to hit rank 5 with this deck easy, although that's true of almost any solidly constructed deck.

Mirror Entity isn't the worst but there are just too many Argent Squire / Drygulch Jailor / Fire Fly / Kabal Lackey / Swashburglar / etc out there.
BTW Just a minor thing, you don't need to worry about Spellbender re: Pyroblast, assuming you're going face.

Currently 30 - 5 with this deck and at Rank 3. It's the real deal, folks. It does struggle a bit w/Aggro Paladin.

Aggro counters priest. Control Warlock counts Aggro. Priest / Secret Mage counters Control Warlock.
