I have not played mage in ages, but now I have the quest card from ungoro I might give it a go. is it possible to build a deck with it that doesn't cost too much dust, please?
AFAIK two versions of Quest Mage exist, one that runs Archmage Antonidas and one that runs Alexstraza. So if you have either of those, you don't have to spend much dust.

used to have antionidas, but dusted. just got alexstraza on GF's account last night, ha ha. unlucky.

never dust classic legendaries, unless they are shitty like Gruul, or Millhouse

this was when I first started playing, and I needed dust to craft cards I actually wanted for decks. I seriously regret it though.
dusted deathwing, a gold edwin vancleef, antionidas and ysera right away.
I dusted gromash and malkorok the other week for dust for new decks.. I know malkorok is phasing out soon, but now I know theres going to be new warrior/weapon synergy in K&C I'm kind of regretting that too.
Think I'm going to stop dusting stuff now, always end up regretting it.
The next expansion seems to be focused on slowing the games down and getting value rather than massive tempo. If there ever was a time to Exodia, it is now.
edit : Wait, you DUSTED ANTONIDAS?!
Get out!
ha ha, yeah dude. I was a noob at the time and wasn't playing mage.
To OP: stop dusting fun && build-around cards. You may dust only cards that cannot be broken in any way, that's boring and un-useful.
Quest is super strong build-around card. Don't dust even if you don't have a deck at hand. You might do it one day, or at least play it in some specific brawl one day.

PS: "exodia"? (still half a noob currently)
exodia is the common definition for the quest mage deck that uses antonidas and four apprentices to generate infinite damage (so winning the game) exacly like exodia did for yugioh
thanks dude. do you have an example of said deck, please? I think I'll craft this tonight.

Exodia refers to a mage deck (or, actually a few different mage decks) that once they get a certain combo of cards in hand, they win the game almost no matter what the game situation is.
In standard the mage deck uses the mage quest along with two sorcerers apprentices, two molten reflections, antionidas, and sometimes simulacrum, to make a board full of apprentices and antionidas so the fireballs you get off antionidas are free to cast, thus you do infinite damage in a single turn.
The name is a reference to yugioh, which has the exodia cards that if you get all them in your hand you instantly win.
It's got a VERY good match up against slower decks and control decks because it eventually gets to a point where it just wins the game. And a VERY bad match up against aggro and more tempo decks because it's fairly helpless (outside of some freezes and board clears) to actually stop something from killing it, since it's deck is full of combo pieces. Which makes it currently pretty bad. But there's an idea that if the meta slows down it could become very good.
That said it has so many vital paces to it's combo I think it might have a weakness to hand distruption. Things like dirty rat (and if your warlock deck is otherwise too slow, the gnome vampire) have a not bad hit rate at making them just loose outright (although between random card generation and multiple ways to copy, you either need to hit BOTH sorcerers apprentices or antionidas, just one apprentice isn't good enough) so if the meta did actually become slow enough for exodia to be run, I think a lot of those would see play. But I dunno if that would be enough to make it bad. Probably not. But it's at least a possibility I think? Like deadmans warrior copying dirt rats would probably have a fair chance to screw it up. Although that match up is pretty hilarious since both run tons of draw and the murlock that makes both players draw two cards, so you end up in draw chicken, where no one wants to draw to avoid the other milling their key pieces.
I need about extra1k dust to make this version, you think I'd be able to trim the fat a little?
I do have a couple of trash legendaries I could use to make a bit extra though I guess. (is that voss legendary for rogue instant dust, or reckon I should hang onto it)
you can probably cut thalnos and replace it with card draw, just dont cut the generators, Similacrum is throwable but it does make getting the exodia much more difficult. This is all considering you want to play exodia mage tho. It is a low winrate deck that requires a lot of skill and luck to pilot. It craps all over jade if jade doesn't know the matchup and it smashes razakus priest if you get the combo quickly. the average winrate for Exodia mage isn't even close to 50% so unless you really want to play this deck or if you just feel like having fun some games you shouldn't sink that much dust into this archetype.
If you go for it you might wanna watch some videos from Toast where he plays the deck to get a bit of a grip on the feel of the deck.
There is also the version with the giants and Alexstrasza which is a little more viable just less fun IMO. In here you have less combo pieces so you want to activate your quest really quickly. The best deck for this type on HSreplay is this one
the idea here is you play 2 giants, play Time warp, Alexstrasza the face of your opponent and win by dealing 16 damage. This can be interrupted by taunts tho
this one is a wee bit more expensive for me again. I did have a gold DK Jaina, but dusted it as was too much dust to pass up.
PS: I was only wanting to play it as I got the quest card in pack last night... might be better for me to just dust it or hang on to it for later then and stick with my keleseth-lock for now.
I am really tempted to craft an evolve shaman tbh though, I love the mechanics of that deck, just think DK thrall is a little wasted unless you put some big guys in there too.
man you need to stop dusting cards. DK jaina isn't really necessary for exodia decks and with this deck the same story goes for Bloodmage Thalnos.
yeah dude, I only really dust golds and trash now (as well as cycled out cards) I try to hang onto as much as I can in case it becomes useful later down the line.
You should also consider your preferred playstyle when deciding whether to craft or dust. Combo style Quest Mage decks need to be played a very particular kind of way. I'd recommend watching a couple of videos of streamers playing the deck and seeing if it appeals to you before crafting epics necessary for it.

thanks for the advice. I do like combo decks, had a lot of fun with grim patron last year.
I don't really know what my favourite style is yet though. My favourite decks so far were probably zoo and evolve shaman, I got into secret hunter with yogg saron as well.. I don't have yogg any more now though.

that card is tasty as well, man.
TBF I have like 6k dust though, crafting 1 legendary isn't going to break the bank, even if I'd gotten it in pack previously.
HAHAHA, classic post since BRM.
And then we get 2-3 cancerous aggro cards that makes some ultrafast archetype viable.

I think you can cut Thalnos, it's good but not required by any means. Just put any cheap drawing spell instead.
Guess I may open some classic packs and hope for antionidas or thalnos.
I opened 10 packs on new account last night and got both alexstraza and prophet velen, got alkir as the free legendary as well.. lucky openings.
