EDIT: took out the tech card (Eater of Secrets in this case) and the remaining Abyssal Enforcer to add some more taunts. I have found that having access to early game taunts is extremely useful right now in stalling out the game. So I have added 2 x Stonehill Defender to help with this as it generates another 2 taunts. if you can then end up drawing out another 3 taunts with Master Oakheart and then even draw some of those taunts again with Bloodreaver Gul'dan i find this is optimal.
once I can craft, I will be adding N'Zoth, the Corruptor to further capitalise on said taunts (it will at least bring back your Voidlord and Rin, the First Disciple which could give you more stalling in order to set up the fatigue victory)
will keep you guys posted on any other changes.
EDIT: this deck has been through a ton of revisions, so will do a new write-up tonight. I ended up splitting the deck into 3 decks (the Skull of the Man'ari deck is still a WIP as I don't have all the cards for it yet. my Medivh deck can be found here http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/999001-medivhs-rin-conditon )
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Basically what you want to do is "stall" use a Doomsayer early to prevent your opponent from gaining tempo, get out a Tar Creeper asap. You want to try and not play your Kobold Librarian or Vulgar Homunculus unless you have a spellstone in hand, but sometimes you will need to play one of these cards, either for draw, to gain tempo or just to simply stall with a taunt.
with your Tainted Zealot cards, try and save them for defile combos, if you are facing another warlock, they can sometimes be used to take out their resurrected demons after a Bloodreaver Gul'dan but you can just use a Twisting Nether for this also.
with your Mistress of Mixtures for when you need healing, but if you have to play early, don't be afraid to. You can out down one of these cards, then zap it with your Dark Pact for a substantial amount of healing. You might want to add a 2nd Dark Pact as it is very use to zap your own Rin, the First Disciple when VS a priest to stop her being silenced.
your Doomsayer cards can be used either early to stall and help gain tempo, or after a Twisting Nether to set up for a Master Oakheart or Bloodreaver Gul'dan play the following turn.
Master Oakheart is great card that will hopefully pull out 3 taunts for you Tar Creeper, vulgar humunculus and Voidlord and should be played asap to avoid drawing out the cards you want him to pull. This is the real MVP of the deck and the 2nd win condition.
Rin, the First Disciple in this deck is best played asap. VS. fast and aggro decks, you probably will never get all the seals off in time, but she is still worth playing, even if just for the extra taunt and for to psych out your opponent with the threat of fatigue from Azari, the Devourer if facing a priest, you will want to only play her from turn 7 onwards (and hold back your Dark Pact as you can pretty much bet on a silence coming to ruin your day) you might even want to start adding a 2nd Dark Pact as it is very useful for self healing as well later on. VS. other control decks, she can become part of your main win condition, you aren't destroying their deck to get rid of cards they need (althugh this can be great) you probably won't get Azari, the Devourer off in time for this anyway, it's mainly to get their fatigue counter going first and win via this method.. it is worth noting that if we start to face a lot of these kind of decks, you might want to tech Dirty Rat so you can attempt to draw out azari and ruin this win condition for them.... also worth noting is that Rin, the First Disciple might be better suited to my Medivh, the Guardian deck that utelises the Arcane Tyrant cards as well as you can create huge tempo swings by playing the first seal, with Atiesh loaded up, then also dropping 1 or 2 Arcane Tyrant cards to make up for any lost tempo playing just a 2/2 body for five mana. I have the link for this deck in the description. it is too early to really have enough data, but I may end up replacing rin for thedarkness in this deck if I feel it could be better and depending on the meta.
Voidlord is an amazing card, you ideally want to pull one from Master Oakheart , but we have 2 so you can play one on turn 9 as well to make sure it is resurrected by gul'dan. not a ton to say here, but it can be silenced, hit with Polymorph and the like, so be aware.
abyssal lord is great for board clears, self-face damage to power up spellstones, and also add's a large body to the board. I only have 1 currently though as pushed for space in the deck.
Master Oakheart should probably be played asap in all match up's to try and pull out the best cards he can. Not a lot to be said here, other than he is an MVP. he can be played before or after a gul'dan play, he is quite a versatile card.
Bloodreaver Gul'dan is a staple in almost all warlock decks for a reason, and in this deck it is no different. he can produce a giant taunt wall that is very hard to deal with and win you games. also his hero power can be used to win games also, especially during fatigue showdowns as it can help chip them down faster, while also keeping you alive.
If you feel you need more card draw, you could change aTainted Zealot for Bloodmage Thalnos or add a second Kobold Librarian similarly Mortal Coil can also add some more card draw. With this being a slow deck, with a fatigue win condition possibility though, too much card draw is fatal.
Spells.. Hellfire can be used to get rid of the hunters new spellstone adds, it also does damage to face so will power up your Lesser Amethyst Spellstone you may want to consider adding a second one, if early game removal is something you need more of. So in a faster meta, this will be added.
Defile defile is great, and when combined with a Tainted Zealot yields some great results. as long as there is a 2 health minion on board, the divine shield will proc first, then giving you an extra proc with the minions 1 health. it might be worth noting that cards like Mortal Coil and Drain Soul can be used to help set it up also, but I do not have the room for these spells at the moment, so I d no run them.
Twisting Nether is a great, late game removal spells, that when combined with a Doomsayer on turn ten can be great for setting up a gul'dan or oakheart play. i have included 2 so you can always hold one back to take outa DK gul'dan play or something similar.
Tech options. I tend to run either Eater of Secrets, Spellbreaker, Dirty Rat or Skulking Geist it just depends on what you are facing more of. Gnomeferatu is also a solid card for warlocks and can really mess with raza priests and exodia mages, but also with out own deck as it can burn both rin and oakheart, making winning all that much harder in the mirror match.
you might want to consider adding Hooked Reaver if facing a lot of fast aggro type decks, it is not as useful is a slow meta, but it is a solid card I have loaded up ready to go if needed.
similarly Corridor Creeper is a great card that can be used to help combat a faster meta.
I have no played the deck enough yet to provide accurate muligan advice, or maybe I'm just not a skilled enough player for this. anyway if anyone would like to help me write the muligans, please hit me up. thanks.
well here is a brief guide as promised. I will add as I go and learn more.
thanks for reading.
have done a write up now on the new revision. hope it helps.
Cool deck man. +1 from me. Still need to to play around with thus deck but looking forward to it.
you might want to check out the medivh version as well as it is very strong, and you can safely use skull+rin in that deck as you can override skull before it pulls out azari. best thing to do is play medivh right after rin and gain tempo while placing down seals. you can then play arcane tyrants for free as well.
oh u updated it xd
played same deck 50 games with 54% winrate (27/23), but i`m using Tainted Zealot because this deck dont need to draw anymore cards, u will 100% start fatiguing faster than your enemy(only if you playing not against miracle decks)
by my experience:
any aggro deck loses to it (70%+ wr)
sucks vs ANY mages(u can only win vs quest mage, but u need to open Rin asap to summon azari, its kinda casino - u will burn his deck, but he got combo in his deck or u will burn his deck with some parts of combo, usually u will burn 12-5 cards ) 18% winrate
vs druids and weapon rogues - 90%+
vs warrior face -25, mill/control/big-75%
priests - 30%, guess rin is not that good, i crafted it only for priests and im disappointed, minding of switching it to Darkness
spell/big/face hunters - 80%
summary: sucks vs mages, priests and face warriors
fucks any other aggressive deck
think this deck will be good after next expansion when raza-dk priest will stop existing and cabalist tome will go forever, but think it will be most effective after unguro pass
thanks for the stats as well.
i was going to replace 1 kobold and something else to try out 2 spiteful summoners. if i ake out a kobold though, I'll leave in talnos so I keep the card draw. I would like to try using tainted zealot instead though upon futher refinements... just a shame I spent 1600 dust on talnos if he's not going to see much play. with that and skull that's a lot of dust, also 2 dirty rats as well which are not currently seeing play :( so much dust, man.
EDIT: you might want to start using dirty rat, mate. I know it can fuck you up, but VS decks like raza P and exodia mage it completely ruins their game plan. I think gnomeferatu is good as well I got ruined by a gnomeferatu cntrl lock last night
spiteful summoners are seem to be strong here but random minion mechanic is not so effective in this patch(i`m playing evo-shaman with my 2nd account and), but sometimes it can do the game cuz 4/4+5/5 in average, maybe there is some point to replace defile for them cuz less low-cost spells and its not very useful cuz early game is easily wins with taunts and kobolds
I made those changes. what to do you think about the card [card]hooked reaver[/card' btw? it seems pretty good. I always loose a lot of health, and then tend to dark pact an apothecary and get my health back. when my health drops down it could be a good time to utilise the hooked reaver for a 7/7 taunt.
PS: I play a totem shaman deck as well, but on the same account. I will upload it, but it's pretty standard fair tbh. it is a lot of fun though.
hooked reaver is good versus aggro, maybe if rank5+ ladder will be full of aggro decks there will be some point to use it
but for now meta is perfect for slow decks
what to you think of this? it should have elize to help deal with our own fatigue, but I don't have the card so just used oakheart for now.
I think the spellbraker may come in useful, but it's a tech slot so can throw anything in there.
+oak just burns 3 cards from ur deck with his battlecry
spellbreaker is vs paladins only, i guess, but if we will see stats:53 games and only 1 vs paladin - so there is no sense
think using tech cards now is kinda useless cuz there is no paladins, jades in ladder, and mages will kill u most times, if not - u cant gather up cool minions to kill her, so may be there is some sense to switch eater/geist/spellbreaker for gnomeferatu/rat for better twisting nether or smth more interesting
maybe u put it vs mirror mutchup vs rin - not bad idea, but i would also put here +1 mist coil ad Owl vs spellbreaker to kill drakes
Right now I'm running a similar deck but with the addition of 1 Crystalweaver . It makes for some really strong plays after playing Master Oakheart or Voidlord and of course after Gul'dan. Usually catches people off guard too. Haven't tried it with Rin yet but I imagine it'd just be more synergy with the Demons she summons.
honestly I think my original version with skull of the man'ari was the best, just trying out more things.
Also works on this...
http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/1000869-heal-paladin-in-process
PS: check out my medivh version as well, the link is in the description. I have ben playing the Medivh one in casual tonight to get a handle on it.. TBH i think I like the oakheart one better. Also thinking of putting Skull of the Man'ari into my medivh list for some added tempo.
PPS: is that hyperlight drifter?
In KFT addon trehe was 3 types of control warlocks: usual control, mill-contro vs heavy decks and corpsetaker control vs aggro and those decks rly worked. I tried to mix them up for perfect balance between all enemy matchups, but its impossible cuz there is always some rng everywhere and u cant draw card that u rly need.
Now i see oakheart+rin, rin+medivh, cataclysm/quest+control(trump's deck) and skull+control. U mixed them all and it seem to be a perfect deck but its impossible to be. (just my own experience)
so i think its better to play 1 type control deck (maybe it wont be so effective but if u playing rly much games u will reach legend anyway.
Also dirty rat became useless now because combo mage now is questless+tempo so u cant affort to let mage more tempo and raza/dk priest now plays witch C'thun or dragon combo and it uses just to end ur enemy.
Also think that Arcane Tyrant can be used even in oakheart+rin deck cuz tempo is so good
and for oakheart battlecry combo Possessed Lackeys looks well
also this is oriented for lategame so it must contain doomsayers and u can swap some earlygame removals for mid and lategame
and i recommend u to add smth like dark pact (any your-minion-targeted removal) to kill rin before it silinced (vs priests)
do you think you could build the examples of said decks for me and either PM me them or post here? I get it's a lot of work, but would appreciate it a lot.
I am not too sure what I'm doing right now, and having examples of each current cntrl lock deck type would help me a lot.
I already have lackies, I will craft some doomsayers though as well.
If you could build me a couple of lists to look at though, I will go ahead and try them out.
thanks again for the advice, mate.
EDIT: I don't have quest, so "rin + medivh" "rin + oakheart" and an example of the skull deck would be amazing as I will build all 3 and then decide which I like best.
this is the best info I've had so far, really appreciate it.
I have updated the deck, any more changes?
would still be cool to see example of medivh version and skull version as well though.
Rin+Medivh
http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/992014-control-warlock-medivh-rin-arcane-tyrant-strategy
but i rly dont like this deck for 2x abyssals and hellfire but only 1x twisting nether
so i replaced abyssal for another twisting nether for better lategame
also i replaced Fungal Enchanter, drain soul 2x voidwalkers for 2x doomsayers and 1x tar creeper and dark pact cuz this deck rly suffers earlygame and for do rins' deathrattle vs priest (also use dark pact on ur low hp demon to heal vs aggro)
rin+oakheart
http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/994881-cheelminds-rin-lock-67-win-rate-rank-8-to-2
-1x tar creeper and 1x mistress of mixtures for 2x Lackeys
-1 abyssal enforcer for hellfire because thanks for voidlords and rins seals there rly lots of demons to spawn with dk
-1 kobold librarian for tyrant for better tempo after expensive spells (its a bit worse for Lesser Amethyst Spellstone but u dont need to deal 7 damage for always, guess 5 dmg its enough)
also if u have deathwings or ysera u can take a look at toast deck, but i think its more funny than effective
http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/991960-k-c-toast-combolock
think weapon lock is that much useless as spell hunter and there is no point to play it now, u can just put it in ur control deck instead of siphon soul but if u enemy will kill each minion summoned by weapon there will come a moment when u will have no minions and ur oponnent will have good minions on a table, so that means gg
