Update 31st July
Big update, I have changed the deck a lot during this second week of Naxx.
I have removed: 1 x Force of Nature / 1 x Nerub’ar Weblord / 1 x Azure Drake / 2 x Argent Commander
I have added: 1 x Cenarius / 1 x Bloodmage Thalnos / 1 x Loatheb / 1 x Sludge Belcher / 1 x Cairne Bloodhoof
Overall the deck has a much higher focus on value and deathrattle token minions to try and keep minions on the board at all time to be used with Power of the Wild and Savage Roar. It is slightly slower but I feel this deck is stronger overall and has done better for me in week 2 than the old version.
I also changed the video at the bottom to one with myself playing the new version of the deck.
Update 28th July
Replaced the video with a newer one featuring the updated version of the deck.
Update 25th July
I switched the 2 Eggs to 2 Haunted Creepers instead since I found the eggs to be too unreliable. I also switched the Poison Seeds to a Black Knight, without the eggs there is less use for Poison Seeds, and I have been seeing a lot of taunt heavy decks recently.
Introduction
Hey everyone, Naxx has just been released. I have been testing a lot of different decks at legend in ranked. This is the druid deck I have had the most success with, a token druid deck that has been updated for the second week Naxx. It includes some of the new cards like the Haunted Creepers, Nerub’ar Weblord, Sludge Belcher and Loatheb.
The new cards
The new cards in this deck that didn’t exist before Naxx are:
Haunted Creeper, a new token card with obvious synergy in this deck, if it gets killed it gives you two 1/1s ripe for buffing with power of the wild or savage roar. It is also just a pain for the enemy to deal with in general and can really slow down enemy aggro decks.
Nerub’ar Weblord, 5 stats for 2 mana is as expected but on top of that it makes all cards with battlecries cost 2 more battlecry cards include Leeroy/Earthen Ring Farseer/Fire Elemental and many others. This synergies extremely well with druids because druid decks rarely includes a lot of battlecry minions since the druid “choose one” cards do not count as battlecries. This particular deck does include a single card with a battlecry, I don’t think that hurts the deck a lot, the azure drake is just so useful in that spot.
Loatheb, The miracle stopper. This card alone will likely increase your winrate against miracle rogues with over 10%. I always keep it in my opening hand vs rogues, but it is also great against almost any other class. The 5/5 by itself is fine but the effect is almost sure to mess with the opponent’s plans.
Sludge Belcher, Harvest Golem’s bigger brother, it is like a Taz’dingo and a Goldshire Footman in one card. I think it is better than Druid of the Claw in taunt mode, of course it does not have the option to be a 4/4 charger so Druid of the Claw is still a better card overall.
Legendary Card Replacements
Thalnos can be replaced by a Loot Hoarder or an Azure Drake.
Cairne Bloodhoof can be replaced by a Sludge Belcher or an Azure Drake.
Cenarius can be replaced by an Azure Drake.
Black Knight can be replaced by a Big Game Hunter or an Azure Drake.
Basically Azure Drake is omnigel.
Mulligan
In general during the mulligan keep Innervate/Weblord/Haunted Creeper/Wrath/Power of the Wild/Harvest Golem the main goal is to have something to play on the early turns, combos can come later. Never mulligan harvest golem unless you have two of them in your opening hand, this deck is low on 3 drops so having the harvest golem is a huge advantage. If you already have a 2 drop, I like to also keep a Keeper of the Grove in the opening hand especially when I have the coin, it is very rare for it to not be useful.
Gameplan
Attempt to keep the pressure up from the beginning, getting some extra damage in is great because that gets them closer to the force of nature/savage roar combo range, however the main goal should be board control unless you have lethal in sight. Say they are at 17 life and they have board control, but you could wrestle it back this turn, if it is turn 8 and you have force of nature/savage roar in hand it is fine to go for the face ignoring board control so you can kill them next turn. I do see too many druid players who ignore good trades early on to get more damage in, I think that is a mistake, so play smart.
Good luck if you try it out, and if you like the deck go ahead and give an upvote. Thanks for reading!
Video
Video of myself playing the deck in ranked.
I use Illiden, its probably going to win you the game if you can keep it alive for more than the first turn you play it.
Played something similar to this to rank 3. But struggling to maintain the rank with current hunter meta. Had decent winrate against them until the newest naxx cards. Meta is shifted. Thinking of making this deck more early game oriented can possibly be a solution, not sure.
I used hunter last season to get me to rank 11 then used a variation of token druid to get me to rank 4.
This is seriously amazing. Since I don't have TBK and Cairne, I put 2x Spectral Knights in and also got rid of the weblord for an Azure Drake and this deck is going places. Haven't bothered with ranked this season so far, I went from 17 to 12 no problem:
Hunter: 4-2
Priest: 5-0
Mage: 3-0
Warrior: 2-1
Zoolock: 3-2
Paladin: 0-1 (One of the rare Shockadins who aren't blindly swinging for face)
Shaman: 1-0
Overall: 18-6. That's simply amazing.
Not saying you're wrong or anything but if you're playing ranked you can't count any games until Rank 13 and under. For some reason it's just where shit gets real for me :<
Yeah I know how you feel, I hit a brick wall at 12. Here's how those stats got killed:
Hunter: 6-7
Priest: 5-1
Mage: 5-1
Warrior: 2-1
Warlock: 4-8
Paladin: 0-1
Shaman: 3-2
Druid: 1-0
Overall: 26-21. Matchmaking also pretty much killed me, as soon as I got to 12 I only got reynad-huntards and those lazy zoof*cks. Gotta figure out a way for including acidics to counter this pesky hunters ...
My thoughts about acidics are like this: take out one savage roar (I hardly use both in a match), maybe take out a golem ... or put in Harrison instead of Cairne/Thalnos if you don't have one of those.
Thoughts on that?
i took out cenarius since i don`t have him and also removed the weblord and added 2x spectral knights.
Works wonders, i`m 5-0 currently
hopefully youve added spectral knight? its absurd in token -_-
Just thought I'd post and say thanks for the deck, the guide, and the video. Just played it from rank 11 to 6 going 12-3 (80% win rate) vs these opponents:
I'm hardly a great player, so I think much of the credit goes to the deck design. The deck is somewhat difficult to play, IMHO. Balancing aggression with more of a control mindset is tough to do consistently; pretty sure my losses came to not making the correct decision on when to switch from aggro to control and back to aggro.
Most of my wins did not involve the wombo combo; they usually involved having a fatty out, then Roaring to victory (e.g., a wounded Ancient, Sludge Belcher token, wounded Keeper, opponent at 20 life, topdeck Druid, play in Charge mode, Savage Roar FTW, etc.). It's almost tempting to take out the Force of Nature, but FoN has also saved my bacon a few times as board clear.
I don't know; I keep looking at the cards and thinking that my ramp druid is better card for card, synergies, etc., but you just can't argue with the results. Maybe it's meta dependent, since I went 6-0 vs. Pally/Shaman, and only faced two Zoos. Still, works very well for what I've been facing.
So how exactly do you use the Haunted Creeper against zoo? I tried it out, but it seems like they can just ignore it since it has only 1 attack. I feel like just having a generic 3/2 out on turn 2 would be more helpful. Am I doing it wrong?
Priest seems to be a difficult matchup, due mainly to their mind controls and shadow circle of healing, but if you can anticipate/play around those and don't get shat on by the RNG gods, it's definitely winnable. I think the key is to win control early on; once they get board control it's really hard to get it back due to all the healing/hard removal they have.
I really don't know what issues you have against priests, I've been facing 4 of those stalling bastards and wrecked them easily.
currently 0-8, any ideas?
That's probably farfetched, but if it isn't, you should really work on your overall decision making, including mulligan phase, trading effectively, playing around opponent's cards, setting up for lethal, planning your next turns ahead of time etc.
Yeah im not sure if im drawing bad or all my opponents have amazing draws. i think i've got around 200 wins with the druid so i know the cards and such. just not sure why ive had such a bad experience
Hey Colma this deck is awesome I was just wondering if you have any tips against the handlock matchup I've been struggling with that one alot
If you could craft either Cairne or TBK for this, which would you choose? I have all other cards for the deck
Cairne will be much more versatile than the Black Knight. The Black Knight is mainly a card you like to include when the Meta shifts to taunt heavy decks. They both win games (The Black Knight is probably the more dramatic swing in your favor if used on a big expensive taunt) though Cairne goes better with the theme of the deck and is less like to be a 'dead card' sitting in your hand in order to get max value from it. This is of course just my opinion.
How important is Nerub'ar Weblord in this deck? What do you think about changing it for some card draw and which card would be best fit? I'm having card draw problems with this deck in some games when I don't draw Ancient of Lores and when I'm forced to use Wraths as 3 dmg spells. I just feel like Weblord is the most useless card in this deck so I'm thinking about changing it to improve card draw. Sometimes it also hurts playing your own Black Knight or Loatheb.
Your voice is so soothing :0
I like your deck. I don't usually play Druid in constructed but I found this deck to be solid and fun to play!
