*This deck was made in an earlier season, with a different meta. I've noticed that it doesn't fair well with current decks. Please consider using traditional Dragon Priest instead.*
On my journey to finding a faster priest deck, I seem to have hit the jackpot. This is dragon priest, but with a more consistent early game. The goal of the deck is to curve out with overstatted minions, keep board control, and gradually push for face damage. You will find that many games end before turn 10.
I'd also like to note that this is only my second time hitting rank 5, with the last time being 5 seasons ago. I'm actually surprised how easily I was able to rank up with this deck, with a win streak from ranks 11-8 that I just wasn't able to achieve with other decks in past seasons.
Mulligan
In your starting hand, aim for Northshire Cleric, Twilight Whelp, Wyrmrest Agent, Faerie Dragon, Blackwing Technician, and Kabal Talonpriest. Against Shaman, Warrior and Rogue, keep Holy Smite to deal with Small-Time Buccaneer as well as other early game drops. Keep Twilight Guardian if you can curve out well.
If you keep cards that need a dragon to activate their battlecries during the mulligan, make sure to keep a dragon so that you can actually use them. This is a general rule for dragon decks.
*Notice the amount of cards that are good to keep. A good starting hand should come often.
Why is (card) in the deck?
Wyrmrest Agent and Twilight Guardian - Overstatted taunts that help immensely against aggro decks. You'll usually want to only play these if you can activate their battlecries.
Holy Champion - IMO one of the most underappreciated cards. Allows the deck to push for face damage. This card can be preettty insane when used with Holy Nova, allowing it to gain more than 5 attack sometimes. It's also a good play on turn 6 to drop Holy Champion and heal something else.
Holy Nova - A boardclear that can be played earlier than Dragonfire Potion while still having synergy with Holy Champion and Northshire Cleric. The fact that it heals your own minions too helps to keep minions alive on your board. Against decks that you don't really need board clears for, like Renolock, sometimes it is good to just play Holy Nova just for the mass heal rather than to kill an opponent's minion.
Drakonid Operative - Easily one of the best cards in the new expansion. It's a 5 mana 5/6 with the potential to give you a card that's good for the current situation. Sometimes you'll find Ragnaros the Firelord and have lethal next turn; sometimes you'll pull an Acidic Swamp Ooze and destroy that upgraded 4/2 Fiery War Axe. It's also not a bad play on turn 5 if you don't have a dragon.
Faerie Dragon - A good hard-to-remove 2 drop that works well with Kabal Talonpriest.
Defender of Argus - Against aggro decks, it can save a lot of life. Against control decks, it's good for pushing face damage.
Why isn't (card) in the deck?
Blackwing Corruptor - You'll usually want to already have board control by turn 5, so the battlecry isn't as effective as it seems in this deck. 5 mana for a 5/4 body isn't ideal either.
Dragonfire Potion - It doesn't serve the purpose of the deck as well as Holy Nova can. Many of the minions you play - notably Blackwing Technician, Kabal Talonpriest and Holy Champion - get damaged by this card.
Thanks for looking at my deck. I will answer questions in the comments.
This deck does not work. I am not a bad player (typically Rank 10 at the end of each season) but this deck just doesn't stand against most of the current decks. I got (barely) 40% win rate. If you don't kill your opponent by turn 6-7, you stand no chance with this deck.
Any ideas?
I started playing this deck two week ago but always balanced between 20-17 lvl. Win ratio is 40-50℅.
Maybe i doing something wrong? You have some advice?
Can't seem to win with this...
Not able to get passed rank 19.
Either have enough tempo to make it to late then loses steam, or too often a bad draw loses to control/aggro.
This is my second compilation about one of my favourite deck, Dragon Priest, this deck bring me to rank 5 this season :)
maybe after watch this you want to play this deck XD
very love the concept of dragon and priest especially tyrande lol

Awesome deck just played 10 games and I only lost 1 against a Murcladin. I will run this deck to climb the ladder
Miss one Twilight Guardian so I replace it with a Netherspite Historian
Thanks!! Good Luck!!

1, it can survive early aggression better than traditional dragon. don't get me wrong, pirate warriors with lucky draws will still demolish you but you have a slightly better chance than traditional dragon where value cards like Netherspite Historian might not even get a chance to shine.
2, it has more depth than regular aggressive decks, you can still win long games, but of course, its long term potential is greatly reduced by the lack of Brann Bronzebeard or Netherspite Historian.
3, so at the end of the day, compared to traditional dragon for rank 25~5 ladder games where you get bonus stars for consecutive wins, in terms of efficiency, i.e., star/minute, it is a much better deck.
I got to rank 10 with this deck after being stuck around 11~12 with a traditional dragon. although I cannot stop but wondering if somehow we can fit in these cards: Circle of Healing (synergy with Holy Champion and Northshire Cleric) or even Auchenai Soulpriest and Flash Heal
Doing great. Only loss was on a -10 fatigue..
What about Wrathion instead of 1 Holy Champion?
it's less aggressive than a holy champion. and the deck doesn't feel like you need the card draw that badly. I played like 5 games this far, and I haven't got the feeling that card draw is a big deal. Clerics already fill that spot really good.
II have Ragnaros, whether it is necessary? And instead of that?
Rag can be good if you find yourself needing a last push for lethal. However, it is not necessary.
you sure i crush every jade druid i play. All you got to do is out tempo them.
bran instead of argus and pain instead of one holy smite
I really like this deck but what do you think about" Netherspite Historian" and "Book Wyrm" and maybe other dragon like "Ysera" and "Deathwing" ???
This is tempo dragon priest. Ysera and Deathwing's mana costs are too high for the deck, as you only want to aim for low cost minions that can curve out well. You usually want the game to be decided before turns 9 and 10. As for Netherspite Historian, it's stats aren't good enough for 2 mana. This tempo deck wants to put out the most stats on board as soon as possible.
If you want to play the cards you mentioned, you'd be better off playing traditional dragon priest :)
Hey thanks man, for the deck and responding. I'm ranking up pretty nice but I cut the pain for Netherspite and the Faerie Dragons for Book Wyrms, and your right about the late game dragons. But i have trouble with Kazakus and Reno Mage. Do you have any advice against those types of decks???
Reno mage is one of the harder matchups for the deck, you need to hard mulligan for 1, 2, and 3 drops in your starting hand to gain board advantage early. If you keep board control then you might be able to win before they draw Reno. However if they drop reno you're best chance is to keep developing the board and hitting them down. Defender of Argus is a good card in that scenario.
This deck is really good.
I do not have cards: Wyrmrest Agent, Defender of Argus, or Twilight Guardian. I subbed in Faceless Manipulator x1, Dragonkin Sorcerer x2, and Second-Rate Bruiser x2.
What do you think?
