Today is a great day to try CONTROL SHAMAN!
With powerful single target and AOE removal, absurd quantities of healing, and giant threat after giant threat, this deck has all the tools you need to climb the ladder.
Control shaman decks usually take the form of some sort of extremely greedy nzoth/deathrattle synergy deck. I've seen many decks use ancestral spirit in conjuction with earth elemental and bog creepers to make huge defensive walls. My opinion: These decks are too slow, too inconsistent, and too easy to counter! If you've tried to play these on ladder, you know exactly what I'm talking about (they will get CRUSHED by jade btw). But there is another way to play control shaman....
A few months ago, a player on Reddit shared his/her incredible "Fat Shaman" list. This list benefits greatly from the new cards released in MSG! Here is an updated version that is extremely strong vs the current meta.
Allow your opponent to overextend -- then you clear the board, heal, and play giant threats. You actually win with tempo -- not value, unlike most control shaman lists-- allowing you to beat extreme-value decks like Jade Druid! Imagine clearing a huge board with elemental destruction, then plopping down two free arcane giants: The ultimate tempo swing -- Your opponents will concede again and again!
Mulligans/Playstyle Guide:
Click here to read the full guide on Reddit!
Note: The guide is for the pre-MSOG meta, but contains some very useful info like mulligans matchups etc. Currently, this deck is good vs aggro and jade decks, but unfavored against priest and renolock
New Card Inclusions:
Finders Keepers is a total sleeper card in the set in my opinion. Overload cards are extremely powerful in an control-archetype shaman deck because dead turns are not a problem. In fact, dead turns can coax your opponent into a false sense of security, they may even extend foolishly into a board clear. Finders Keepers can allow you to discover a number of exceptionally powerful options, including extra elemental destruction and lightning storm; three weapons (doomhammer, jade claws, stormforged axe); healing (jinyu waterspeaker), and a large threat (earth elemental)! Pick what you need, it's fantastic!
Devolve This card fits right in here, it is great for clearing out buffed minions, and absolutely DESTROYS rogue. Good vs any sort of resurrect decks and can sometimes be a last resort against jade.
White Eyes The card seems to fit into a control shaman deck and specifically it helps shut down the pirates and jades. It trades nicely into azure drakes and auctioneers, it blocks an entire whack from an arcanite reaper. If you manage to get the storm guardian out, it's a behemoth threat that all opponents struggle to deal with. It's pretty much GG vs a druid or pirate warrior.

great deck!!! any cards i should replace if I use this in Wild?
Thanks!
Hey dude, thanks for sharing this deck. It looks like a great variation of the classic control Shaman.
Quick question here, do you think I can test the deck and replace White Eyes with something else until I can craft him?
Yes! Just replace with 4 mana 7/7
Grate. Up voted.
But why Flamewreathed Faceless? Mostly u have to overload on turn 3. So its no extra value to play turn 4 7/7. More over its not taunt and its not very useful in late game. More over its anti-synergy with Healing Wave. I mean u already have Bloodmage Thalnos and 4 mana Jinyu Waterspeaker. U can easily replace Flamewreathed Faceless for useful 6+ drop like The Curator in case of 3 dragons or Sylvanas Windrunner or Emperor Thaurissan or even rag. If u think it's too slow. Well with Healing Wave u have to play slow.
Also the problem of deck is if u want play Arcane Giant efficiently, bunch of 3 cost spells isn't good idea. I mean its totally bad if u stack with this card in hand on turn 3 till turn 12-13 right? My suggestion is put out 2 Healing Wave(slow and not needed imo), Flamewreathed Faceless and Ancestral Knowledge(very slow, in early game its almost dead card in hand. 0-3 totem is much better). Maybe even -1 Elemental Destruction cuz its very-very slow too.
Then +1 Jinyu Waterspeaker. Finally 1 or 2 of each Lightning Bolt, Forked Lightning(works really good with Lava Shock), Finders Keepers and Earth Shock. Then makes some test runs for good turn 7-8 Arcane Giant. After that u may consider which spells are better and which to cut off.
Also what do u think about Second-Rate Bruiser? Seams good anti-aggro card for such decks.
Write all of this as "100+ games on otk maly shaman"-player xD
This deck often wants to clear the board and drop a large minion, flamewreathed faceless is cheap enough and big enough to serve this purpose. There is some anti synergy with healing wave. That's partially why I replaced one with jinyu in my updated list.
I extend my post before read your comment xD
Now I catch what u mean. It looks like we think about difference play style. As I played much on such variation (clear'n'drop) too, can tell its very hurt when some 5+ hp enemy dude left with 1 hp after ED but still on board. So extra dmg spell for low cost is big thing sometimes. Aslo earlier Arcane Giant always better, so take a look at my prev comment.
Elemental destruction is the most important card in this deck, you really want to have two of them for this to work right.
For the others:
replace finders keepers with ancestral knowledge
replace ysera with arch thief rafaam
replace thalnos with kobold geomancer (but craft thalnos asap)
i think you could use some tunnel troggs as it has a lot of overload synergy. Troggs make excellent turn 1 plays can easily take out 2 early threats. Furthermore I think you should consider -1 portal for +1 devolve. With the jade lotus and rise of rogues/druids comes a lot of deathrattle. Devolving pauses the jade timer as well as bypassing a lot of potential threats. hell any 3 drop has a small chance of becoming a doomsayer and wiping the board for you. It also works really well vs hand buff pallys and hunters.
Trogg's really don't have a place in this deck despite the insane overload synergy because 1. You are usually going to elemental destruction around turn 5 or 6. You don't want your opponent trading away with trogg, you want them to flood the board to get max value out of your aoe. 2. They dilute your odds of winning the healing wave joust. And 3. What would you cut to include the troggs? You really don't have much room to squeeze them in.
I do agree the deck is pretty weak vs jade rogue. The aoe doesn't work well against sticky deathrattle boards. If jade rogues become more popular I'd probably swap the waterspeaker with devolve.
Dude, this deck is unexpectedly fantastic!! Really enjoying myself with it, and your write up is spot on on everything. I did switch a 7/7 for another waterspeaker though.
Glad it worked out, let me know if you make any other changes.
Tks for this deck man. I will try it =)
Let me know what you think! PS Most of the credit goes to Raymobile I just updated the list with the new cards.
Friend. I've been having problems with the Jade Druid. When you notice that type of deck, the player puts at most 2 or 3 minions and is killing me slowly. It makes me spend resources with low value. How do you deal with this situation?
You need to stall in the early game, usually if they are only playing a few threats, feral spirits can help bring the enemy minion life totals down to 2-4 for a good lightning storm. Try not to be TOO greedy with your board clears, use them to stay alive and remember even if the value seems low, it speeds up the discount on arcane giants. The faster you can get those giants cheap, the better. So if you need to elemental destruction just two minions, thats OK! You have lots of healing and spells available to you, so just keep the pressure up against jade druid and they will crumble. Check out my replay if you like, linked above.
Unlike most shaman control decks, this is not a "grinder" deck. To win against Jade, you can't comfortably sit back and clear the board and heal. You need to be aggressive with your large minions - jade Druid often doesn't run much hard removal (if any) so by the time his jades are 6/6 or 7/7 you should have 0 mana arcane Giants already on the board and whacking away. Save hex for Aya or ancient of war. If you get to the point where you need to hex a golem, things aren't looking good. Ysera is especially good too against jade druid. However, as always, if the jade Druid gets an insane draw or a massive swing turn with fandral, you are in trouble.
I played against a Druid with an insanely powerful opener. He cycled through his deck so quickly the game got to the point where he pulled out 5 golems with gadgetzan auctioneer. But I had two arcane Giants that he wAs not able to deal with and I won before he could attack with his absurdly large board.
One more consideration is that Jade Druids often run azure drake and auctioneer, stormcrack is perfect for removing them. Blood Mage+stormcrack is great for removing a fandral.
