First let me say its very fun deck to play, but have to warn its not very easy to play type of deck, and you need a bit of practise to get win streaks going. As the tittle says its just the best counter to any type of hunter (face or control doesnt really matter). And when you get into the game against hunter you feel something similar if you got into the game with control warrior against freeze mage. Freeze mage can still win but he needs a miracle. Its very similar feeling against hunters with this deck. This is not my original deck list. It might be very similar decks around but i put some of my own twists to it.
In general this deck is great against aggro and control decks who cannot burst you down in a single turn. Another advantage is once its not so popular your opponets doesnt really expect Molten Giant
Disadvantages:its much harder to play in legend ranks where players are a bit more cautious and smarter in general, and doesnt try to burn you down to Molten Giant range. Really bad deck against fatique decks, and pretty weak against Shamans.
Lets talk about particular matchups and strategies i use (you might find better ways of course)
Warrior:I have about 65% win rate. Normal warriors is pretty easy to beat, you might find some problems against extremely gready warriors who runs all usual legendaries+Ysera. You simply dont have that many removal.
Shaman:I have about 30% win rate. Its a nightmare matchup for this deck. The reason is Earth Shock against Mad Scientist and in particular Hex against your Duplicate. you end up with full hand of sheeps.
Rogue:I have about 60% win rate. There is many types of rogues but basically they all end up with weapons. Unless you have very bad draw, its pretty easy win,all you need is to get Duplicate + Sludge Belcher or Water Elemental and depending on situation follow that up with Echo of Medivh. you neutralise their weapons and it just takes way too much for them to deal with.
Paladin:I have about 60% win rate against paladins. Mech paladins is not that hard to beat. More control paladins is much closier matchup If opponent knows what hes playing against its more 50%-50%. Thats where it all depends how much value can you get from [card]Kel'Thuzad[/card]
Hunter:I have about 90% win rate. Its a sweet spot for this deck. If you get Frostbolt+Mad Scientist in your opening hand its an auto win,but the reason why its so good against hunters is even if you dont have it you have time to draw it. Most hunters dropped hunters mark+flair+became not so bursty you have time,to get your Molten Giant going and have plenty of heals to stabilise.
Druid:I have 45% win rate. Ramp druid might be a problem for this deck especially if they open Wild Growth. Combo druids might be a problem aswell, once they not gonna put you in Molten Giant range and can just burn you down in one turn. Its pretty hard matchup.
Warlock:I have 58% win rate. Zoo might be a problem if you dont have Frostbolt in your opening hand. Handlock. is tricky aswell. Especially if you didnt draw Big Game Hunter or Polymorph. Perfect scenario is turn 3 Duplicate+ turn 4 Big Game Hunter. if you dont have Duplicate i usually try to stall Mountain Giant with Frostbolt or other removals or even tank the damage with your face until turn 8 when you can Big Game Hunter+Echo of Medivh
Mage:most simple matchup. If its fatigue mage=you just leave the game, its pretty much imposible to win. Control mage=he leaves the game (you have same defensive tools as he does but you have giants). Mech mage. I think its about 70% win rate. Freeze mage=he leaves the game (you have just way too much of heals, all you need is to draw a single Ice Block till turn 9. and thats not hard at all.
Priest:i have around 75% win rate. You have all time in the world to draw all your key cards like Duplicate and Echo of Medivh and its just too much for priest to handle. Most of the times i let him to burn me down on purpose for Molten Giant you just dont overextend to aoe and you fine.
Its fun deck to play and deck who gives so much satisfaction after winning, much more than some dull aggro. I just love getting 4-6 or sometimes even 8 Molten Giant on the field. Or managing to combo Duplicate+Sludge Belcher+[card]Kel'Thuzad[/card]. This combo with [card]Kel'Thuzad[/card] or similar one is more doable especially against good players who lets your minions live just because they afraid to give any of those key minions to be duplicated. Its such cool deck to play and i recommend anyone to give it ago. As i mentioned its not very easy deck to play so dont just drop it after a loss or two. Enjoy :)
This deck doesn't feel like winning, it feels like barely scraping by
I'm still having trouble making good use of KT. How are you supposed to use him in this deck effectively?
Fantastic deck, was suffering from a losing streak playing my own and other mage decks to aggro. Tried this and am having about 80% winrate against aggro, which is pretty much all I am facing at rank 8-9 atm. Fun to mess with the opponent and duplicate some really annoying missions or KT/echo crazy boards. There have even been a few games where I've grown a farm of Illuminators the aggro decks had no idea of handling :P. I'll probably continue playing this deck and see how far it takes me, thanks so much!
Thank you for this. I was on an 8 game losing streak due to hunter/warlock aggro decks. This deck has really turned things around for me. Hilarity ensues.
I played a very similar molten echo mage and sorry to say but there's no way such a deck has 90% win rate vs hunter. Half the games are already lost if you don't have frostbolt to immediately deal with undertaker. You don't have time to draw it because by the time you draw it, you probably need to just fireball it. I even added zombie chow just to have another way to deal with undertaker and the win rate still isn't that great.
Mad scientist and sunfury doesn't deal with undertaker. Turn 1 undertaker coin leper gnome and it's 2/3, you play your mad scientist/sunfury then next turn undertaker is 3/4. How are you killing it?
Um...your scenario is completely wrong. What rank do you play at? You turn 1 pass, they turn 1 undertaker coin leper gnome. You turn 2 sunfury, they turn 2 mad scientist and trades the 3/4 undertaker into your sunfury. Mad scientist is worse as leper gnome trades into it. Only having frostbolt stops any undertaker opener.
It may be the "dream" opener but you can't claim 90% win rate unless you're saying hunters only get undertaker openers in 10% of the games you play.
Belcher gets owled and water elemental either gets hunter's marked, freeze trapped or ignored. Believe me, I have played the deck enough to know all the scenarios that can happen. The deck can definitely pull through against hunter but like I said, it is nowhere near 90%.
Thanks for the deck, man! I have been wanting to play Giant's deck but couldn't find a good deck. This helps a lot, especially with its high win rate against the annoying Hunters.
