Very true, but even without this card, Mage looks like it is going to be possibly the top dog this expansion (in arena) with Firelands Portal. The only thing that will possibly keep it from being number one in arena is a good Rogue card released (which has yet to be shown).
Pretty adorable - it's kinda like a mage flavoured webspinner huh
Hm. I might have to start playing mage if they keep getting all these fun cards.
People who use Spellslinger could use this instead and it will probably work better. Love the silly artwork btw!
favorite new card :)
Holy shit this card is amazing if you draw it opening hand
to the people who think this is a new option for tempo mage, find one card in the tempo mage list right now that could be replaced by this and make the deck any more successful. this isn't a tempo card. its a card for value and reno mage, and it might be enough to revive those archetypes in competitive play. its a really slow card since it only kills half an argent squire or possessed villager, and if you want tempo, getting one spell that you didn't intentionally put in your deck that you have to play later to only kill half a minion doesn't give you any. this is a card that you put in when you can't fit in any more copies of a better card, such as in reno mage. its a good card for an archetype that needs it, and might be the sleeper hit of the set behind barnes if it helps reno mage take off, but putting this in tempo mage is just asking for a 35% winrate with the deck when the adventure goes live.
First of all, Tempo Mage is one of the most flexible decklists that changes a lot depending on the meta. It'll most definetly be easy to find a spot for pretty much any card.
Second of all, you're underestimating how good it can be to play something on turn 1. Mana Wyrmis good, but it's the only 1-drop Mages can use and that does hurt consistency to some extent. There is a reason most other Aggressive decks (Zoo/Shaman/Hunter and so on) include as many 1-mana cards as possible.
I'm not saying it's guaranteed to be the next big thing, but I cannot understand people like you that think it's not even worth giving this card a try. You might be surprised how powerful a FREE 1/1/1 can be.
[card]Cult Sorcerer[/card] can reasonably be swapped out if the meta develops in such a way that you need more early game minions. That said, Tempo Mage revolves around playing super efficient broken cards (like Flamewaker) to control the tempo of the early to mid game. This card seems to favor a more controlling deck type like Yog Mage, where sub-optimal slow cards can shine.
I guess mage needed another good one-drop?
I guess they really like RNG mage. I'll take it, could be worse
Casino Mage is drooling.
Aww, I liked the old name better :C
More RNG cards...Blizzard's favorite.
It should work well with Yogg-Saron, Hope's End or Brann Bronzebeard.
don't think it was meant for arena....considering it's a rare as well.
I suppose they assumed mage already has enough good cards so they just give Casino mage something to have fun with
Who knows? In Constructed, Tempo Mage only has one 1-drop, which often translates into a slower start than a Zoolock, Midrange Shaman, Midrange Hunter etc.
This card could actually make the cut :3
Honestly I think it will be a quite good Arena card. Spells are hard to come by in arena and mage spells are on average really good. The latest expansion gets a decent appearance bonus as well, so this will be somewhat commonly seen. If you have no other play on turn 1 this is just as if you drew a spell from your deck in your mulligan. On every other turn squeezing a 1-drop in is not usually that hard. Playing a 1 mana 1/1 instead of wasting the mana is straight up better in pretty much every situation.
It's a fun, ok card. Mage should have cards like this one, not those portals and other annoying removals. If they had more cards like this one instead of those, arena would be a much better place.
Blizzard are joking. It,s just mage arena buff again! (MABA, sounds good) They have already released 7 mana strong spell, but this can give you Cabalist,s Tome. And it,s rare so you definately will get him in 90 cards.
i don't see this getting picked over any decent rare. The body is shit andone random mage spell isn't all that great in arena
