Quote from BlizzardIn an update that is scheduled to arrive October 18 PDT, the following cards will be changed.
Giggling Inventor – Will cost 7 mana. (Up from 5)
Giggling Inventor is one of the most powerful and popular cards we’ve ever created. There’s virtually no downside to including it in a deck, and because it’s neutral, it’s played in almost every deck. We think it’s important to take risks when making powerful cards, especially when it comes to neutral taunts, given the role they can play in encouraging minion interactions and making games more interesting. However, Giggling Inventor has stepped beyond its intended role, and we don’t feel that it should be as effective as it currently is.
We initially tested this card at (6) mana in both the current Standard format as well as with cards that will be released in the future. Ultimately, we felt that its power level was still higher than is appropriate for a Neutral card with no build-around requirements. At (7) mana, we expect Giggling Inventor will find its way into fewer decks in general—and be much less effective in Quest Rogue—while it might remain situationally playable within specific deck archetypes, such as Evolve Shaman.
Mana Wyrm – Will cost 2 mana. (Up from 1)
Over time, we’ve been moving away from powerful, early-game 1-drops like Mana Wyrm. It can often feel like the outcome of a game is decided by whether Mana Wyrm was played on turn one, and if it could be removed quickly by an opponent. Mana Wyrm has also steered us away from making powerful low-cost Mage spells. We’d like Mana Wyrm to remain an option for decks it synergizes with, while preventing it from being a huge turn one threat.
At (2) mana, it will be easier to deal with Mana Wyrm the turn it’s played, and it will be harder to buff it with cheap spells early in the match. We still expect it to remain an option in decks that have a heavy focus on cheap spells, but it should be a less appealing option in decks that aren’t built with that focus in mind.
Aviana – Will cost 10 mana. (Up from 9)
Changing Aviana to (10) mana means it will no longer be possible to play Aviana and Kun the Forgotten King on the same turn without some additional help from cards like Innervate or The Coin. It also means Juicy Psychmelon will no longer draw both Aviana and Kun. This should make the combos Aviana and Kun produce less consistent, while still allowing decks that use the combos to exist for the players that enjoy playing them.
Noooo, leave Aviana alone! The 9 mana cost for that card was written in the skies! I don't even have the card, but I still think it's sad they're changing it. And there was a certain aesthetic to it, a 5/5 costing 9 mana. :(
what about the melon ?? or the even the fucking spreading cancer shit?
Someday I will understand the reasonings behind the adjustments they do to cards. Why the **** would they nerf Aviana of all things if it straight up kills an entire archetype when they could just nerf PSYCHMELON. ¡¿WHY?!
So far this is the closest I've been to taking a time of the game.
I appreciate other people opinions and wanted to quickly add mine here.
I didn't liked any of this cards anyway. BUT both Giggling Inventor and Mana Wyrm were murdered. 6 mana Giggling Inventor would have still been powerful, would still have see play, but wouldn't feel unfair to play against. With 7 mana giggling is time for us to press F and move on.
Mana Wyrm, one of the cards that I hated the most in all of HS. This entire Aggro Mage theme of decks were either Tier 1 or Trash and very few in between. There could have been 100 other nerf variants out there: 1 mana 1/2, 1 mana 0/3, ect, ect that could have been less damaging to the card. 2 mana Wyrm will see very little play, why? Cause payers will always play removal, so now if you play this on 2nd turn + coin + some 1 mana spell, that's 3 dmg for turn 3. Quite bad. Thanks Blizzard. ( As long as you don't give mages coins or innervates next expansion we're good).
"At (7) mana, we expect Giggling Inventor will find its way into fewer decks in general" like NO ONE
That reminds me that I'm still waiting for the new strong decks that were supposed to be built around Warsong Commander. Oh well. Better not hold my breath.
Now that we have Rush keyword, Warsong Commander should probably apply to that keyword as well to make it at least somewhat relevant.
I think they meant that they tested it before announcing the nerfs and that’s why the nerf hits so hard... No clue how you managed to interpret it that way.
It is impossible for them to fully understand the implications of certain cards before the whole set launches. Now that the whole set has launched they are able to more accurately contextualize the impact of 'problem cards'.
Empathy before anger.
There's also no way they had enough data to make that determination that it was still OP at 6 while leaving it alone for months at 5 cost telling us it's being "watched". They should just come out and say they made it 7 so it is never played again because blizzard won;t let them ban cards from the format.
Where is nerf of fcking Spreading Plague?
It's more of an in-game nerf Mossy Horror ;)

If you still can't beat Spreading Plague, time to give up on this game - you just aren't very good.
That must be why all the pro players still play it and lose to it on a regular basis. I guess you guys have never seen Spreading plus Branching played in the same turn?
Spreading Plague only works if you play into it by making a big board. Play more thoughtfully on key turns against Druids, and it's much less of a problem.
Curiously absent: balance changes for Druid in standard. Hmm...
Seriously there's people that do not agree? Giggling at 7 mana is almost dead, and it's ok. Aviana will still work but will not be totally broken going down on turn 6, and about mana wyrm, well, let's just say that every time I played tempo mage and ended up whit a mana wyrm and a sorcerer apprentice or a frosbolt, I already felt I was going to win. It is one of my favourite cards, but it certainly is a problem...
They could have touched a little druid ramp system, but I suspect it will be done whit the all of fame next year...
Giggling nerf is ok, it should make aggro a bit better. Alligner Druid was already Tier 2 in wild and now not only do you need an innervate (or coin) for the combo, but you also don't draw Aviana from Juicy Psychmelon ... way too hard of a nerf. Mana Wyrm nerf is pretty sad, because Tempo Mage isn't even that strong (compared to other decks) and this kills Odd Mage (fun deck).
Should Northshire Cleric also be 2 mana following the logic from the Mana Wyrm nerf?
