you can put some spells in your deck with this too... low cost spells
spells that you dont desire to topdeck... so this card also helps you to reduce number of cards in your deck to find minions you actually desire
An interesting card. Zoo Mage maybe ? Or even not.. Maybe we can risk in a spell heavy mage too... It's complex dude
Mech mage is back boy (oh wait...)
Agro mage incoming.
This is concerning. Seeing as we've barely seen any Mage cards so far, the idea of a minion-based Mage is not out of the range of possibilities. Mage has always had insane boardclear and tons of spot removal, most of which also has the versatile function of faceburn when needed. Their weakness was always in the minion play. Most of their minions had spell synergy and they had a problem keeping up constant minion pressure throughout the game if they suffered a setback, and thus had to resort to tempo tricks a lot of the time. If they suddenly get very poor or almost no spells but a suite of stand-alone good minions, Mage in Wild may suddenly end up having no weaknesses, kinda like what Reno Priest used to be. Me no likey if I'm right.
In a minion focused Mage deck in the future, this is pretty nuts.
Believe it or not, this card is bonkers in quest mage or other mage combo decks.
Get ahold of your Molten Reflection or Simulacrums, then start casting these to cycle through fast for Sorcerer's Apprentice or Archmage Antonidas. You don't need to draw spells if you're drawing your win condition.
Kinda wish this was a Shaman card, because the main problem with Malygos Shaman is that you can easily fill your hand up with burn but finding Malygos himself is actually pretty hard.
Is it really though? Because most of the time you don't have all of the spell pieces in your hand, and then it's too risky to play this. You would need to have all your pieces (and usually your second ice block or something) ready and be looking for exactly apprentice and/or antonidas.
The Ultimate MEME.
Imo everyone's underrating this card. 2 mana draw 1 is not good but not awful. Looking at Novice Engineer, Shiv, and Wrath, we can see that for a 2 mana draw 1 you can also expect either a 1/1 or 'deal 1 damage' for the card to have a chance at seeing play. The reason I'm analysing a 2 mana draw 1 is because this is probably the lowest roll you could expect from this card. If for some strange reason you just put this in to something like big spell mage, where you have a lot of spells, and you only drew 1, it's not even disastrous. The fact that you discarded two spells isn't actually a big deal either, because until a game gets to fatigue, discarding actually doesn't matter, which is a concept that many people have difficulty with. Those cards could easily have been at the bottom of your deck, and if you win with 2 cards left in your deck and it was those two spells (the ones we're imagining would have been discarded), then they might as well have been discarded at the start of the game and it would have made no difference to your win rate. This isn't a great example because big spell mage often does go to fatigue, but the theory is still correct. Even for big spell mage, a "draw 1, discard 2 random spells" will often actually be desirable if it means you either draw jaina or (because you've burnt 2 spells) get 2 draws closer to jaina. The biggest impact on the winrate of big spell mage is when and whether you draw jaina. Please don't think I'm saying you'd want to run this over say AI because you want to be burning your spells - I'm just highlighting that the detriment is not as bad as people are making out. Also bear in mind that I'm analysing big spell mage as an example of exactly the wrong deck in which to run this spell.
Now say you ran this in some kind of tempo/burn hybrid mage that ran fireballs, frostbolts, pyroblast and then a bunch of strong tempo minions, and the most likely outcome of this spell is 2 mana draw 2, that's fantastic. 2 mana draw 2 is very strong. Burning one spell doesn't matter: again the same point applies that on average, deck-thinning is actually a greater benefit than burning a spell is a detriment.
2 mana draw 3 is just broken, and would require a deck with almost or literally no other spells, which would probably result in a pretty weak deck, however this is the only deck that anyone is imagining when they imagine playing this card. You don't need to run a no-spell mage to run this card. This card is likely best in a deck with a spell/minion ratio of 33:67 or 25:75, in which cases the most likely outcomes are either a 2 mana draw 2, thin deck by 1, or a 2 mana draw 3, both of which are excellent.
Thanks man. No problem.
Second idea of combo (cuz Renounce go in wild):
1. Play a Quest Warlock with Elise the Trailblazer
2. Open Pack get a Toki, Time-Tinker and from her battlecry get Yogg-Saron, Hope's End
3. Yogg-Saron, Hope's End cast double Book of Specters discard 6 spells
4. ???
5. Quest complete!
About this card and Mage:
1. Mage class minions are all aggro, tempo and synergize with spells
2. Mage can also play elemental deck
3. Elemental minions are all slow tempo good value.
4. If you make Mage minion-based deck with no spells - it is elemental deck
This card gives you draw - which is good for tempo, but elementals are slow on board tempo. So won't get actual board tempo with this.
So it's not good for constructed.
I think you need to wake up a bit and read your comment, lol.
This is a good card because tracking is a good card.
If your deck isn't all spells/has many minions than this is insanely better than tracking.
It is NOT a control card tho. Makes you love value and get close to fatigue pretty easily
You also don't discard hero cards. So it's good to dig for Jaina
Mate,tracking is hunters card
Finding Jaina DK in the deck is the most important part of elemental mage. This card will be good. The comparison is Tracking from hunter, which sees play because finding the Hunter DK is super important as well to spell hunter.
What an awesome card! I don't think a spell-light deck in constructed can make it, but maybe with the new voodoo doll it is possible.
