Synergy Picks in the Arena are Being Removed
Mike Donais briefly mentioned the removal of synergy picks over on reddit. This will occur in an upcoming Hearthstone patch, but not alongside the incoming balance update.
Quote from Mike DonaisThis won't be removed in the Balance patch as that was added as a quick bonus patch.
It will be removed in a patch after that though. (Source)Hey Mike thanks for the quick response! Could you please clarify, what exactly is being changed? Are you removing all the synergy picks? Changing the list of synergy cards offered? Trying a new system?
The first 2 picks will be the same as all the other picks. It is being removed. (Source)
They didn't adjust to the changes very well then. It's literally mathematically impossible for no players to get 12 wins. The same number of players will be getting 12 win runs as before.
I think this is because of the introduction of Death knights, not synergy picks. Most decks at high wins have them and will beat up on anyone who's up there by just merit of skill
if fewer people play fewer people get 12 wins, and actually 12 wins right now is very much luck based, do you have a deathknight, then you have a significantly greater chance of getting 12 wins. And that is what is happening and the point of the person's statement. Good players are getting 12 wins less often because arena is more luck based. Of course math is weird here anyway the number of wins that can be allotted to n people equals 3n minus 1. you can in a system of n people have no people reach twelve wins, but it is very difficult with the matchmaking hearthstone uses for arena. If arena matchmaking was based on historical skill in the mode then it would be quite probable that nobody would reach 12 wins within any given hour. But with the way things currently work, you basically need to have a pretty small number of players before 12 wins becomes non-existent in the hundreds. but decreasing the number of 12 wins players in a system that has them is relatively easy. Make the game more luck based and also make games take longer. That means that 11 win players will on average have worse chances of getting that last win, and it also means matchmaking more often will pair 11 and 10 win players, so if the 10 win players win it slows down the rate at which 12 wins happens, and it forces an extra game that adds an extra loss to the 11 win player pool and removes one from the 10 win player pool, since 11 win players are more likely to get 12 wins than ten win players the percent based change that adding that moving that loss has applies greater to 11 win players than ten win players, which slightly decreases the number of 12 win players. It is absolutely a small change, but the more games between 11 and 10 win players the fewer people reach twelve wins.
Dude .... paragraphs
You don't get maths ;)
This is simply not true. Based on the 30runs Hafu posted. Her average is still very solid in the low 7's. which is what she has maintained for several months. https://twitter.com/itshafu/status/905847832342433792
I think you're just making stuff up to support your point. If anything the reason to remove it is that it doesn't achieve anything. The synergy picks had next to no impact on the synergy of your deck and essentially just turned into vanilla cards with ignorable text on them.
If synergy is to be included then the defined synergy should influence the other picks via an algorithm. Or the synergy needs to exceed the default arena rule of "just pick the strongest card" which it doesn't
That's not how matching works though. It matches you with people with the same number of wins and losses.
I was just trying to make a point. At 7 you can be matched as low as 4/5 . So that one beats you and the circle starts again. It's actually very possible in a temporary ammount of time no one goes to 12. Actually blizzard is really behind releasing Arena statistics with number of players/games player and number of 12/11....1 wins.
but ... as always ... Soon™
I don't really play arena, can somebody tell me what actually is removed? Is there a higher change to get a card that synergies with the previous one?
There is currently a recently added system where the first two picks in Arena are ones that have some kind of synergy effects (not necessarily with each other) - so tribes, deathrattles for N'zoth, etc. But there is still no guarantee that this'll show up in the rest of the draft.
and what cards were synergy picks and what weren't made no sense and was really dumb. Which was the main problem.
Now remove DK Heroes so that Arena actually becomes playable.
so instead of improving it, they just remove it... this is just stupid.
Would be awesome if they also rolled back the Standard Arena or at least added a possibility to switch between formats... One can dream.
They did a while ago. Flamestrike & firelands portal have their drop chance reduced, while spells and weapons chances got increased
No, it was flamestrike and Abyssal Enforcer(latter for no real reason other than a lot of whining)
Oh yeah thanks, forgot ^^
Good! The "pick one and hope desperately that the rest of the cards fit the one you chose, so it doesn't take up a spot needlessly"-fear will stop.
