i like molten giants more, atleast they have panda and faceless if anything goes wrong. in this deck, no alex, no otk, no win. it's fun tho, but the deck is really lame w/o drawing alex. even in starting hand i'm afraid to trade her out or else she might end up near the end of the deck and I have no way to win
I always keep Alex if I have her on my opening hands. It is true that for this deck, there is no win without this card. Just an idea I had for my variation of an OTK warrior deck :)
This might sound strange but your deck is almost aggro but not midrange or control. Its like it manages to be confused with itself so therefor might not perform like it could. I think you need to figure out what kind of deck you want it to be and then use more supportive cards to help it achieve that specific goal.
No you are very helpful! I re-considered my cards and I modified them so that this deck could be more midgame control centric.
"This deck is a hit-it-or-lose-it deck. If you pull off the combo, you are guaranteed a win, but sometimes, the right cards just don't show up and you can't survive till it does...so, it's gimmicky, but also fun!"
This sums up this deck pretty much. It's no better than all the other cheese/clutch decks out there and would most likely have a sub-average win rate in medium-high ranking constructed play.
Yes, I admit that. I am rank 15 in the current system and for the ranked games I tried with this deck my win-lose ratio is around 1:1. If I get the combo, great. If not, fail. I think it's a fun deck to play in casual though.
Tried it and its not too good. loses to all the popular decks right now and loses to rush b/c your heals are too slow, if you heal up 6 then lack of board presence hits you for 12
early game is non-existent and late game is lacking, you basically need to draw true silvers for this deck to be good, too many people make this mistake with paladin decks
After your experience with this deck, do you have any suggestions to improve it?
And you will have baited out my taunt creatures too? Hmm.
I guess I have a different definition of OTK... To me a OTK is something that you can wait to play until you are certain it will succeed, and the opponent can't do anything to stop it. Otherwise, there's loads of OTKs, involving Blood Lust and suchlike. But if the opponent has a chance to respond, it may fail.
To stop this Alex+Gorehowl OTK, you just need Ooze or any taunt in response to Gorehowl.
Yes, you are absolutely right. Taunts and Oozes are really good counters for this deck, like I've mentioned in the "Thoughts" section in the thread. If those were played, I would have to get out of my way to clear them before I can land my full combo.
Takes one turn to play Gorehowl and a different turn to play Alex...
Of course if you just mean that you killing someone that's at 30 life in one turn, then that's different...
But it being 2 turns and all gives me a chance to play Ooze or Harrison...
Yes, I mean killing someone at 30 hp one-turn-kill. You play Gorehowl on turn 7, and you sit on it. Most ideally you can coin into Alexstrasza on turn 8 and deal 30 in one turn.
Usually, I play Fiery War Axe and Arcanite Reaper before the big combo not just for creature removal, but also to bait out Oozes if there are any.
I'm using a very similar deck, without the power of the wilds and mark of natures. The weakness of this deck is removal, its going to be a pain dealing with ysera's, rags, tirions, and especially the giants. Currently, I am using naturalize to deal with them, but this card is really bad, so I eventually plan to swap them out for big game hunters and tinkermaster when I can craft them. So far naturalize has helped me during most high hp legendaries, and in my last game against an early earth elemental.
Yes, you are totally right. That is the main problem I face with this deck. I'm thinking about adding a Big Game Hunter into it as well! ;D
Greetings! I am a Hearthstone player from Taiwan and with the recent Mage meta, I've been thinking a lot about the card Alexstrasza. After trying out different decks and experimenting it in a lot of games, I've created a recipe for a Warrior one-turn-kill deck that relies on the ability of Alexstrasza. It is a little gimmicky, but also incredibly awesome if you pull it through and hit for 30 in your opponent's face.
[OTK Combo] There are some key cards for this to work. 1) Alexstrasza: Obviously. 15 damage in the face. 2) Charge: To give Alex charge. 8 damage. 3) Gorehowl: 7 damage in the face. These three cards is the classic combo. 15+8+7=30 damage in one turn. Or alternatively: 4) Inner Rage: To buff Alex by 2 damage. 5) Arcanite Reaper: 5 damage in the face. These additional cards give an alternative combo. 15+8+2+5=30 damage in a turn. [Card Draw] Due to the gimmicky nature of this combo, a lot of card draw is needed. Novice Engineer, [cardAzure Drake[/card], and Gadgetzan Auctioneer can all give good card draws. The spell Shield Block also gives additional draw. Finally, Bloodmage Thalnos's deathrattle gives card draw. [Board Control] Gathering the key cards for the combo aside, you need to survive early-mid game. To do that, spells like Cleave, Slam, and Whirlwind in conjunction with Bloodmage Thalnos can do good damage. When met with swarm, Brawl will clear the board. Weapons Fiery War Axe and Arcanite Reaper can control the board as well. Finally, Kor'kron Elite for any big scary minions.
Thoughts: Acidic Swamp Ooze is a nightmare. Taunts as well...This deck is a hit-it-or-lose-it deck. If you pull off the combo, you are guaranteed a win, but sometimes, the right cards just don't show up and you can't survive till it does...so, it's gimmicky, but also fun! Charge away!
Tips & Tricks: 1) For your starting hand, dump everything unless it's a key card. Getting that combo is top priority. The only cards worth keeping on your opening hand imo are Alexstrasza and Charge. 2) Play your weapon of choice one turn before your combo so that you have enough mana. 3) If you go second, save your coin for a turn 8 Alex one-turn-kill.

Greetings! I am a Hearthstone player from Taiwan and looking at the current meta with a lot of Frost Giant Mages / Alex Pyro Mages, I've built a deck that can counter it well. At the same time, it is a solid deck that can do pretty well against other deck types. The concept is to outlast your opponents by board control and healing to an eventual victory.
Thoughts: There might be too little early game creatures to fend off super early aggro Warlock decks, might consider adding more 2 drops to cover that weak spot. Tirion Fordring is also very vulnerable to silence.
Tips & Tricks: 1) For the starting hand, you are obviously looking for the early drops like Faerie Dragon and Earthen Ring Farseer. 2) The timing for your key cards Tirion Fordring and Ragnaros the Firelord is vey important. Try to bait with Sunwalker for the opponent to blow any spot removal cards before putting down your key cards. 3) If a Mage has a secret up: it most likely either Ice Block or Ice Barrier. If it is Block, then try your best to reduce the enemy health as low as possible before dealing the fatal blow; If it is Barrier, use spell damage to finish them off instead of using attacks that trigger the 8 armor.

After some modifications to the deck, I successfully went on a 3-0 win streak bringing myself to rank 14.

Just curious, so is the previous Hunter OTK deck with the old version of Unleash the Hounds considered "OTK"?

You don't, refer to Tips & Tricks 2. You play your weapon of choice the turn before you pull the combo.

At the same time, it is a solid deck that can do pretty well against other deck types. The concept is to outlast your opponents by board control and healing to an eventual victory.
Let's talk about some of the things that make this deck outlast.
[Board Control]
Hammer of Wrath, Consecration, and Avenging Wrath are good board control spells. Slightly bigger creatures can be removed by Truesilver Champion. For mass removal, Wild Pyromancer + Equality combo or Abomination works well.
[Giant Removal]
Threats like Mountain Giant, Molten Giant, and dragons like Alexstrasza can be neutralized by Big Game Hunter and Aldor Peacekeeper, or copy with Faceless Manipulator.
[Outlasting]
Earthen Ring Farseer, Guardian of Kings, and Lay on Hands give you lasting power as it keeps board and health up.
[Key Cards]
The three key cards to this deck is Tirion Fordring, Ragnaros the Firelord, and Faceless Manipulator. All three cards are capable of doing a great deal of damage if the board control from early to mid game was executed properly, bringing you a clean victory.
Thoughts:
There might be too little early game creatures to fend off super early aggro Warlock decks, might consider adding more 2 drops to cover that weak spot. Tirion Fordring is also very vulnerable to silence.
Tips & Tricks:

I just pulled a Ragnaros the Firelord out of a pack! I'm adding it into my Taunt Ramp deck.
