Sorry, if you mind explaining the two terms that you have mentioned?
Former is a deck that spams Coldlight Oracle to make players draw cards like crazy. Ideally the pilot expends his hand and benefits while the foe has hand clogged and loses resources, eventually running out and dying because the oracle causes them to fatigue quickly.
Latter is a Warrior control variant that focuses on armoring up like crazy, removing everything the foe plays and playing the super long game. Eventually the foe dies due to fatigue while the pilot's armor lets him survive.
Just got to rank 10 with hotform tempo mage, but I swapped a few cards: dropped Yogg, dropped 2x acolyte of pain, added 1x flamestrike, and added 2x babbling books.
Meta is super fast right now so play aggressively, when in doubt go face.
Look for Deck Type = Aggro. Hearthstone is as much about player ability than it is about deck ability. Aggro are some of the easiest decks to play to rank 10 and beyond.
One reason why Aggro is easier is because you don't have to choose from 3-5 cards each turn. Aggro decks have small cards. In turns 1-2, you can't play any medium cards you have because no mana. By turns 3-4, you might have 2 reasonable choices of which cards to play, so you're deciding between only 1-3 choices. By turns 5+, you're running low on cards and still have only 1-2 choices each turn. It's harder to make a bad play with Aggro than it is with other deck types.
Another deck type I'd recommend playing is Tempo. Tempo decks let you focus on the board and having more minions out there than the other guy, killing theirs and making good trades. It becomes more about the trades than about the cards themselves. But you still have only 1-3 choices per turn in a tempo deck, giving you a chance to play better and rank up.
Control decks are the hardest. This is where you sit with 6-8 cards in your hand, you can make any of 5+ reasonable plays each turn, but in my case, I have no Idea which is the best play. The best play depends on guessing the opponents deck from the first 3-4 cards, your mana, the cards in your hand, and the cards you know are in your deck, also how many cards you have left before you run out. add to that what's on the board, how many cards they have left, what you think is in their hand, on and on. so many options. If you make the best of the 5 available choices consistently, then you'll win more with Control. In my case, I have no idea what's the best and whatever I think is the best isn't and I lose with control. Combo decks can be similar. An example of a control card is polymorph. It does no damage, but prevents you from taking damage. Neat card, but very hard to figure out when to use it properly.
If you really hate Aggro and Tempo, try midrange or combo, which is between agro and control. This mage you posted I'd call a midrange/combo deck. I recommend first getting to rank 10 with aggro though. Another bonus of aggro is that cards are low mana and cheap. There are 1-3 epics and legendaries in a typical aggro deck. Also, aggro decks usually play somewhat ok without the epics and legendaries and they offer many cheap version decklists. If you can't get to rank 10 with a popular aggro deck, then your problem isn't the deck. You need more practice making good choices in game and the easiest way to learn is aggro.
Ray
Rank 10 this month so far and have gotten to rank 5 with Aggro prior months. I play the popular Totem Shamen/Aggro Shamen deck.
Edit: Also, don't try Warlock Aggro. It's more combo than aggro. Balancing the draw card hero power and choosing between 5+ low value card options plus hero power each turn is a lot of work that most do poorly, including me. Try Shaman or Pirate Warrior Aggro. Something straightforward and rank to 10 easy. Any control player that can rank to 10 can also do it on aggro. not true the other way around. I can rank to 10 easy on aggro, but playing control, combo, or warlock will keep me around rank 15 because I make sub-optimal plays.
Hi Ray,
Nice meeting you. May I check with you on your shaman deck list? I am interested to find out more about shaman too
