posted a message on MLG/ManaGrind NA & EU Open 9 HearthStone Tournaments!

ManaGrind is proud to announce that we are collaborating with Major League Gaming (MLG) http://www.majorleaguegaming.com/ to grow and expand the competitive Hearthstone community.  We have been working very hard the past few months trying to establish a competitive scene and are taking the next steps to bring this dream to fruition.

After receiving feedback from the previous tournaments we have changed a few things including:

    • NA now starts at 2pm EST (Previously did at 4pm EST)

    • EU now starts at 6pm CET (Previously did at 7pm CET)
    • You can use the following time converter if needed http://www.worldtimebuddy.com/
    • Added to [General] rules: "All players must enter their Battle Tag in the "Hearthstone Heroes of Warcraft player name" Section when creating their team."

    • All players who reach the semi-finals will need to provide a copy of their deck to Managrind admins. Players who refuse to do so will be forfeited.

Come and compete with some of the best players Hearthstone has to offer! Anyone with beta access is encouraged to sign up and join in on the fun. Do not be discouraged by the big names that will most likely be joining, this is your chance to grow as a player and expand your skill set. It is an important milestone in all Hearthstone players careers. There are prizes to be won in the form of MLG credits which can be used to join buy in seats for paid prize pool tournaments in the future.

The North American servers Hearthstone Tournament will begin at 2PM EST on Saturday December 21st, 2013. If you are interested in participating please go here: http://gamebattles.majorleaguegaming.com/pc/hearthstone-heroes-of-warcraft/tournament/na-managrind-open-9

The European servers Hearthstone Tournament will begin at 6pm CET on Sunday, December 22nd, 2013.  If you are interested in participating please go here: http://gamebattles.majorleaguegaming.com/pc/hearthstone-heroes-of-warcraft/tournament/eu-managrind-open-9/info

Please make sure you follow the directions posted at: http://gamebattles.majorleaguegaming.com/forums/t/Tournament-Guide-8742580 on how to join the tournaments and read the NEW rules (http://gamebattles.majorleaguegaming.com/pc/hearthstone-heroes-of-warcraft/tournament/managrind-hearthstone/rules) regarding the tournaments.

We look forward to seeing EVERYONE there!

Also, if you are really interested in playing more competitively ManaGrind and MLG have worked together to form ladders for both the NA and EU servers. You can find the NA one here:http://gamebattles.majorleaguegaming.com/pc/hearthstone-heroes-of-warcraft/ladder/singles/ and the EU one here: http://gamebattles.majorleaguegaming.com/pc/hearthstone-heroes-of-warcraft/ladder/singles-eu/.

Be sure to hone your skills and prepare for the exciting adventure that awaits each and every one of you.

    Cheers!

P.S.: Keep in mind that MLG is currently working very hard to make the whole process more user friendly and convenient!

The deck rules are a little vague in these managrind tournaments. I've figured out the rules, but not without a little guesswork. I suggest you be more explicit in your rules section regarding decks. As of right now, bullet point #2 in the OP could be interpreted multiple ways, and the screenshot for top 8/16 only further confuses things.

    Instead of this:

    2. There is no sideboard, deck swapping, class swapping. What you bring is what you play!

Try something like this for next time:

    2. All players create a single decklist for the entire tournament. There is to be no sideboard, deck swapping, class swapping between rounds--what deck you play in the first round must exactly match all sequential rounds.

The only reason I bring this up was that even on the Saturday tournaments I've talked to people and noted a bit of confusion regarding deck construction/modification rulings. Not trying to cause problems, just attempting to help you out by providing feedback.

The rules are very clearly stated on the Challonge page in details. The post here is simply to promote the event and is not a rulings list. Though I appreciate you are trying to help, thanks!

Errmmm, each opponent I face during swiss I can choose any deck I have, I go for a Bo1 and I can use another deck for the next opponent, it doesn't matter - but what about in the top8/16 playoffs? What deck do I have to submit? How many classes can I play, only one? If only one, can I sideboard in those Bo3 games?

    Also, no prizes right?

I would suggest you read the rules as this is not at all what they stipulate. It's 1 deck no sideboard and if you are caught altering your deck or using a different deck you will be auto disqualified.

Also there are no prizes for now, correct.

    Thanks

Decklists will only be posted on Mondays from now on so they do not alter the EU tournament meta as they have in the past.

posted a message on Why allow people to run multiple decks?

The reason we cannot limit sideboarding is because there is no efficient way of policing it. With the MLG tournaments and the limited amount of registry we have, we constructed this format to allow less of a rock paper scissor approach to the game (Blizzcon Format) and have people stay with the same Hero through out the round. Now it is important that I mention that we are definitely on your side when it comes to limited sideboarding or even no sideboards for that matter. We are working towards something better for the future and also towards reopening our swiss format tournaments very VERY soon (keep an eye out for the announcement in the next few days). We hope that you can understand that policing limited sideboards is possible but requires a lot of time and could delay tournaments pretty consistently with people reporting cheating, it is simply not efficient at this present moment and thus we are working towards making everyone's experience better. Also once Hearthstone decides to have more support towards tournaments this will definitely help alleviate a lot of the limitations we are currently encountering.

posted a message on How do you prepare for tournaments?

I would usually analyze the current meta as well as last weeks and try to counter it with playing partners. If I see something having potential against the meta, then I would definitely play it in the tournament and if not I would simply try to refine the current played decks/archetypes and eliminate the obvious weaknesses they have.
