posted a message on My apology for playing PW today

    Tze.

Thanks.  It's nice to see someone actually gets it.  One of the things I dislike about the internet is it gives everyone this mask of anonymity, which leads them to act in ways they would never dream of doing if they were in front of you/knew someone else was going to hear them.  I try to treat people the same way on the net that I do in person, because doing anything else lessens me.

As for the whole discussion on the skill it takes to play aggro vs reno/control, I think both sides are overstating the case.  PW is easier for a less skilled player to understand the basic synergies and win some games, but a skilled player can win games with that deck that a novice would lose.  Reno/control decks are harder for a novice to pilot because Reno decks are reactive in nature and require a good knowledge of what is in your opponents deck to be used successfully. They do require skill to play, and it's not just a matter of drawing early removal and playing reno on turn 6, but it's not like you have to be a pro level player to win with it either.  Reno decks are also expensive to build and don't usually work right if you don't have almost all the correct cards, which puts them out of the reach of a lot of players and tends to create a bit of an elitist mindset in the part of the community that loves them.

Never gonna happen.  It WOULD be sort of amusing though.  It would be  one of those priceless "wtf just happened?" moments that keep games entertaining.

posted a message on My apology for playing PW today

Ok, sorry about dropping out of the thread for a while- It's the GF's birthday and I took her out to lunch.

I was playing off the ladder-I never do quests on the ladder unless they involve one of the decks I normally use for ladder play.  That's probably why I saw all the fast concedes.  However, I run into people playing PW in casual all the time, and after my experience today I just don't see why they bother.  If so many people refuse to play against you how can you actually enjoy the game?

As for why I thought it necessary to apologize:  I'm used to games where the community isn't quite as anonymous as it is in Hearthstone, and where your reputation actually matters.  I'm used to actually running into the people from the forums in game and knowing who they are (and vice versa).  I happen to use the same name in game as I do here, so anyone who posts here would recognize me in game, but since I have no way to know if anyone whose opinion I respect was one of my opponents today I figured I'd just issue a blanket apology for playing a deck I know most people hate.  I know it doesn't matter in Hearthstone the way it does in games where having a crap reputation will keep you from getting group invites, but it's still good manners.

posted a message on My apology for playing PW today

Wow, didn't intend to start a debate on where or not PW is a good deck.  I've played it enough to know that it's good a churning out a lot of damage fast, but I've also played it enough to see how one dimensional it is.  As long as your opponent doesn't have an effective response it's GG, but it doesn't have any way to recover if it loses the board or runs into a couple of big taunts in a row.

With that said, I also know a lot of the community hate the deck with a passion.  There isn't any way for me to apologize for playing a deck I know people hate with emotes during the game, so I figured I'd do it here.

posted a message on My apology for playing PW today

If any of the people I played against with my PW deck this morning see this, I want to apologize.  I don't normally play the deck, but I got the "play 10 pirates" quest today.

It took me a lot longer then I expected, because people kept conceding as soon as they saw the first pirate.  I only had two games that lasted past the second turn, and one of those was a loss to a jade druid that was probably confused over why I kept playing after he tossed out two taunts in a row and cleared my board.  If this is what playing PW is like I don't know why anyone bothers  I suppose it lets you farm gold quick with all the concedes, but I thought the point was to actually play the game?

If they want to slow down aggro all they need to do is add a card like the julianne card from the medivh brawl as a neutral.  A low cost taunt that when killed prevents any further attacks for the turn would pretty much ruin every aggro decks early game plan.

I actually had a lot of fun with this once I won my pack and stopped caring about whether or not I won.  Where else are you going to have the fun of seeing your opponent kill your Deathwing, Dragonlord while you have 3 copies of Ysera in your hand?

Agree on the Thalnos.  The other one really depends on what decks you want to play.  Leroy is a solid choice because it's used in a variety of decks, but antonidas, tirion and edwin are all must haves if you really like playing those classes.

STB already gets hit with removal before it ever gets the chance to attacks in a lot of games.  The extra point of health will make it easier to remove, but it's still a card your opponent can't afford to ignore,  If nothing else it forces your opponent to waste the turn getting rid of it instead of developing their own board.

posted a message on Adventures were not profitable

How the heck would you know if they were profitable or not?   Do you have access to their internal sales data and development expense breakdowns?  Are you qualified to calculate a break even analysis that includes fixed and variable overhead allocation?   Do you know the rules for revenue recognition with software sales?   Sorry, but nothing annoys me more than someone that doesn't know squat about accounting sounding off on something that only an accountant is qualified to determine.

If you never spent a penny then how could you have been burned?  The only investment you have is the time playing the game, and I think the hours of entertainment you got from playing the game more than offset any loss you may be suffering because cards are rotating out.

How do you calculted 100 dust per pack?

It's an average over a huge number of packs opened, and assumes that you will dust all common, rare and epic cards (both normal and golden) that you get, as well as golden or duplicated legendary cards.  Most packs give you 40, but I've had plenty that were 100 or more.

Once I get done ranting about the pansy ass lucky bastard that just beat me I take a deep breath, laugh at myself for complaining about being beaten by a deck I play myself, and pet my dogs for a few minutes.  It's hard to stay pissed off when you have a 120# black lab rolling around on its back begging you to rub his belly and a jealous Australian shepherd bouncing around trying to get his share.

posted a message on I'm ready for new standard

If you play off ladder you don't run into as many PW's, but you run into a bunch of different murloc decks that are just as annoying.  The only really question is if they are going to rush you from turn 1, or if they are going to spend the first couple of turns buffing their hands and then drop a horde of midsized creatures when they know you don't have enough mana available to clear them off.
