Wow everyone, take it easy. While this post made me feel old this is stil a 30 year old reference. Ask me about 50’s pop culture as a kid and I’m sure I would be pretty lost. It’s not young peoples fault that I’m getting old.

I used to play a decent amount of chess when I was younger so I always view my opponent having lethal as checkmate. Conceding at that point is like putting your king on its side. I usually emote well played before I concede. I am surprised that can be seen as poor sportsmanship

posted a message on which oppressive deck would you play?

I posted a suggestion a while back if anyone would be interested in a Time Machine mode. It would last one month and be available every month before a new expansion goes live. In this mode you could use any cards available during a certain period (for example beta) and all cards in this mode would revert back to their original state. If you reach some sort of a level during the month, you can earn an old card back. I figured a little nostalgia might be welcome during the somewhat stale month before a new expansion launches. Thoughts?

posted a message on Idea for end of expansion staleness

I think the month right before a new expansion goes live is the hardest time to stay engaged in Hearthstone. I came up with an idea and would love feedback. The idea is a time machine mode. This game mode would last a full month (the month before a new expansion goes live) and would chose a time in Hearthstone, say for example beta, and allow players to climb the ranks using their existing cards but the cards in this mode would be identical as they were at that time. The reward? The card back available during that time. Here is why I think this can work and would please player base and make Blizz some extra money. (It is a business after all)

1- The failure of Wild mode. I think originally players thought wild would be a place to play older decks and still use older cards in their collection like they used to. This is not the case and will only get worse over time. The reason? Power creep and nerfs. Take Dr. Boom for example. Dr 7 was an auto include in decks because at the time he was insanely powerful. Now? I rarely see him played in wild. In essence, older collections have devalued greatly because of this just like currency does over time. Not only do these once powerful cards that many players crafted are now obsolete but the dust reduction is so severe that getting rid of these cards makes people feel cheated. Now lets talk about combo Druid. Does force of nature still exist? Sure, but it got nerfed so hard that the entire deck died with it. So wild mode DOES NOT bring back older decks and does not allow you to effectively use older cards simply by the natural progression of the game. Realistically older cards are simply niche additions to standard ladder decks primarily. Does Blizz think people want to play older decks? Yes. The proof is the HOF of Molten Giant. Apparently there is a large enough group of people the want to play that card in handlock that Blizzard listened. This will only increase as the game grows older. Time machine mode will allow players to use older cards in their own environment so cards like Dr 7 can once again dominate or Combo Druid can be a thing again.

2-The technology is there!- There was a brawl recently where you could play a tournament deck in time appropriate conditions meaning a separate mode  can be made with different card values. Also, the new even/odd legendaries in the new expansion automatically will show you only odd or even cards if selected meaning there is technology that allows your collection to be filtered automatically. This will allow you to view your collection with the new values and only those eligible if you select this mode.

3-Old cardbacks are coming back- Ben Brode said old card backs would be available but they were looking for a way to make it difficult to obtain so they wouldn't lose their specialness or uniqueness. What better way than to earn it the way it was originally earned? Grind using the cards people used originally to get it! This would only really interest collectors but honestly, the only people who keep all their cards and dust nothing are collectors anyways so the prize would fit the contest. Also it would be neat to see someone climbing to get the cardback facing someone defending the cardback against newbies. Just a thought.

Anyways, my idea would be this to happen 4 times a year only. The initial game would be new player friendly because it would basically contain only classic cards. And if it takes off? The next time machine mode would take place during the time of Naxx. So, if new players want to participate, they would have to buy the expansion (or grind with classic cards only. good luck!) which would make Blizzard more money. Win - win! This idea is not fully thought out so please add to it! I have a thick skin so if you think it sucks, let me know as well. If you would like to play this game mode please add if you wan to play for nostalgic reasons or because you were always curious about historic power levels. Thanks for reading!

I have not once in my lifetime used a single $ in a f2p game and never will. Just because some people /kiddies uses hundreds or even thousands of $ in a game is just sick. Learn to have some kind of control over yourself people.

I have never understood this. So I am lucky enough to make a decent living and have some disposable income. I buy packs because I enjoy playing various decks and do not have time to grind plus I will happily support a game that gives me hours of entertainment. I am also very happy that there is a f2p option and am always very impressed when people earn entire collections by grinding. But i am pretty sure f2p players can do this because there are enough people like me who spend money on this game. So....whats the friction? It is really strange when socioeconomic anger shows up in what should just be a community that enjoys playing the same game. Oh well

posted a message on Priest is no longer fun to meet on ladder

    Quote from breach_deciphern >>

to be honest, Priest was never the fun class and in my opinion (and it is my favorite class) it should never be given power enough for tier 1 until some of the core cards and mechanics get changed. like, it has been built with the core set as THAT annoying class. there's no good response to anything the class does. it's simply the annoying class and it has been contributed to greatly by switching over the 'fun' cards with annoying but powerful ones. I think another big reason is that deckbuilding in Priest has become a lot less interesting.

Shadow Madness is kind of a bad card, generally you run it if you know exactly what you want to steal. just put in 2x Potion of Madness now, the card is nuts, there's like always a target for it and costs 1 mana!

Shadowform is a ton of fun to build around with - but why do that, when now we have Shadowreaper Anduin

Thoughtsteal is no longer run ; just play Drakonid Operative. get whatever you want! how exciting.

putting in a Cabal Shadow Priest used to be a very specific plan ; I'll ready up Shrinkmeister to get your Ysera, or just use it on Imp Gang Boss, etc. well now you got a better Aldor Peacekeeper in Priest, just take whatever you want.

it's been a while since I enjoyed playing my favorite class. I'll wait for it to rotate these overpowered cards and be garbage tier again so only me and a few other fans of it can actually enjoy playing it again with our crummy comboish builds. oh, and no more dragons, please. give them to Paladin or something.

This. I think pre-raza priest, this class never got too many OP cards so people that played it just liked the class. Because of this there was a lot more creative and diverse builds. Now that priest has some really powerful decks you have plenty of players who like playing top tier decks playing it and thus very similar builds. But it’s cyclical and soon enough priest will go back into the dumpster and only priest fans will play the class again and try to make fun underpowered decks work.

    Quote from Magitact >>

The nerf to Warleader was a step in the right direction, but Coldlight Seer is almost as bad.  I hate the fact that I can't save board clears like volcanic potion for one more turn to try to get more value because of that little bastard.

At some level, this sounds like you're getting greedy - you know Coldlight Seer is available to your opponent, and you should play around it. The nerf to Murloc Warleader was critical because it a) had some strange interactions with health setting effects like Equality, and b) it meant you didn't have to choose between making your murlocs healthy vs. stronger. It typically takes more than one buff for murlocs to get out of range of midgame AOE spells like Dragonfire Potion and Dragon's Fury, and if health buff effects weren't available for murlocs, then Volcanic Potion would be too oppressive against them and completely destroy the murloc tribe. (Current ControlLock is a case study of this - Defile gets around minor health buffs pretty easily, making ControlLock very strong against murloc decks despite Coldlight Seer.)
Not to mention, cards like Hungry Crab and Doomsayer don't care at all about the health total of opposing murlocs...there are tools to get around this problem.
All your points are valid.  I'm usually aware that my opponent might have Coldlight Seer.  My problem is that I once faced a Murloc Shaman who absolutely crushed me ...... after I cleared his board 4 times and killed at least 3 murlocs every time! Yes, I was playing a slower deck, but the fact that I lost so badly always gives me pause when I play against murlocs.  It is not that I forget that my opponent might have the Seer.  It is the fact that I always have to ask myself the question " If I clear my opponent's board now will I have enough board clear value later when he inevitably floods the board in a couple of turns."  I usually feel forced to play greedy hoping he doesn't have Seer.  This is where I find the process to be uninteractive because I feel like I'm in a no win situation.
Because of strong synergies with Paladin (divine Shield) and Shaman (Cheap early game removal spells and hero power), It becomes difficult to fight back.  This is why I'm mostly against health buffs for murlocs within the tribe.  Murloc Tidecaller could also be one of the culprits but I'm not sure.  I also don't find Doomsayer to be useful past turn 2 unless paired with frost nova.  We can site certain archetypes, spells, and minions and there interactions in any given meta and standard rotation all day, but I am trying to look at the long term future for the game for murloc builds and interactions.  I have personally come to the conclusion that at the very least Coldlight Seer restricts future design space and should be changed.
Isn't having to ask yourself questions before making a play the definition if interactive? Uninteractive would mean your plays don't factor into the outcome because the opponent is playing a solitaire deck (ie; pre-nerf quest rogue)
