I got it done with Paladin. I used the second deck and the divine shield hero power. Picked every dragon bucket that came around, and Gangs all Here'd a Cathedral Gargoyle and a Loyal Henchman for guaranteed early game. I had bonus mana crystal and minions have +1/+1 for passives.
I would play Gargoyles until I had five mana, drop four 5/5 taunts to the board and then start playing dragons behind the wall. There wasn't a single boss that had enough removal for it all.
Calling is not an above average card when cast on things not named Mountain Giant. The problem is that the pool of 12 drops is to narrow and that Mountain Giant can be discounted down to 3 - 4 mana. Without Mountain Giant in the deck you're powerful play is what? (That's an honest question)
So far I've played through the first two wings a couple times each and I can already tell that by the time all the wings are out I will definitely have my money's worth in content. The packs and the Golden Legendary are just icing on the cake.
I was also a bit tired of the meta and thought the decks were kind of boring until I started playing things like Big Shaman and Khadgar Mage. I think these decks have the best balance between RNG and Consistency in the current meta and they have been extremely fun to play
I see a lot of people complaining about the streamer event, and I just want to remind everyone that you aren't forced to watch it. It's like spoilers for a movie, some people want them to be as far away as possible, others don't really care if things get spoiled. Consume the content or don't, it isn't for everyone.
Preparation and Edwin VanCleef should go to Hall of Fame and that is it. The other cards you mentioned are going to be fine after these go away. As they say "Don't punish the son for the sins of the father." Rogue has had too many combo payoffs and too many combo activators for too long, remove the best of each and the power level falls in line.
I really hope they don't kill the format. I think the format has good bones and it only seems bad because of rogue's overpoweredness. If nerfs bring rogue inline with other decks the format will shape up.
I hate these posts, they always seem to devolve into:
Bad Players = Aggro Players
Good Players = Control Players
It isn't really the case, you can be a good player and play aggro, and you can be terrible playing control. If you play aggro it can be difficult to figure out how to maximize damage output, while minimizing damage uptake on every turn. Sure those decisions are easier when your opponent doesn't do anything for the first few turns, but that isn't the aggro player's fault. It's their opponent's fault for building their deck too greedy.
It is harder to find decks where Bloodmage Thalnos can't be used. He is my go to replacement card whenever I try building a deck and have an open card slot.
Honestly? Just kill the minions. Don't make your decks so greedy. Run Doomsayer, run Hecklebot, run Abomination. And those are just the neutral options. Warlock has Shriek, Warrior has Warpath, Hunter has Explosive Trap. The deck is the best aggro deck, but it isn't unstoppable. They do run out of resources unlike Odd Paladin who could always just press the button. They present problems, just bring enough answers and you'll win.
** Edit - I should probably mention I've been playing Betrug + Plot Twist Warlock, get in ahead of the people calling me a "mindless aggro player"
I keep seeing people saying that recycling mechanics for sets is a bad thing and I do not understand. Recycled mechanics are a sign of growth in card games, MTG has recycled mechanics again and again. All it means is that they think they were onto something in the past, and they think they can flex the mechanic to make it even better. It's not a sign of decreased creativity in fact I think its the opposite.
Also as kind of a side point, a card game being big enough to reference its own past is an amazing sign of progress!

My proposed change is to 'nerf' Zayle, Shadow Cloak and Whizbang the Wonderful to 12 mana to broaden the twelve drop pool and make calling on Mountain Giant much less powerful, without impacting anything serious.

**Daily Reminder**
A card being good, does not mean that the card needs nerfing

I would give the Plot Twist + Fel Lord Betrug combo a shot.
Try it with deathrattle heals, or maybe the on-draw heal class minion. I run it in my control warlock and it usually heals me for about 12 on turn 10.
Also Archivist Elysiana is super good
