Boss Overview
Black King is the third and final boss in The Parlor wing of the One Night in Karazhan adventure.
- Hero Power: Cheat
Pro Tips and Strategy
- You won't need to build a deck for this fight but you must make valuable plays against the Black King as unlike normal difficulty, you can't Discover new chess pieces.
- Positioning is the main component to this fight.
- He can use his hero power to cheat which gets rid of your left-most minion. Keep your Pawns to the left.
- You want to avoid having minions directly across from his when attacking, you want your minions to be between his so that they will attack twice.
- You can rearrange your own minions through Castle. Useful to move healers around and target specific minions.
- If Black Queen comes into play you want to make it a priority target.
- Black Bishop is secondary on the priority list. Letting it heal for too long will result in sad times.
- White Queen is an absolute monster. Use her to clear the board easily. Protect the Queen - you only get one!
- White Knight is awesome. It is the only minion that you can choose where it attacks regardless of its position. Keep it away from the left side of the board at all costs and use it to make effective trades.
- White Bishop is your source of healing. Keeping your White Knight and White Queen healed will help assert dominance. You can later use your hero power to move this over to other minions which require aid.
- White Pawn is your primary mulligan target. They will protect your better minions and are playable at any point in the game thanks to their mana cost of 1.
Rewards
Defeating Black King for the first time will reward you with cards!

It's not that hard, its more a case of rng screwing us over :p
This was such an enjoyable boss encounter
Heroic Guide
Pass turn one
Knights are godlike
Don't spam the board
Fuck the queen
Manipulate the hero power
Good Luck!
One important note, play the queen on the far right, keep her hitting face as much as possible.
This didn't work for me since you can't win a control game.
Flood the board straightaway. Play a minion on turn 1.
Keep your Knights to the right since only 1 attack minions are on the side. Heal your Knights. You want them to do as much damage as possible so you remain on the offensive side.
Play your Queen ASAP and keep her to the right so she can attack face.
@biofield6: "1. Pass turn one
This is old information and no longer relevant. He does not coin two pawns on turn one anymore and has not done that for months. Blizzard made this matchup harder and he uses his cheat power as early as turn two.
This needs to be a brawl.
Anyone know how to verse him in Heroic? Everytime I get board dominance I'm too close to fatigue to win and he just kills my guys one by one while I'm out of cards
You can't play control you need to SMOrc if you play your Queen as a control card you are going to deck and lose. How you win is by going face as much as possible, your Queen might has well have text attack heroes only, because if you are not going face with her you are going to lose.
For a starting hand you need as many pawns as possible because turn 1 and turn 2 is playing one then two pawns. If you want the ideal draw its 3 pawns in your starting hand and then top deck 3 pawns this gives you the best chance and will take less than ten restarts to get.
Alright thank you I'll give that a go
I already beat both normal and heroic for chess fight. As a big chess fan it was really fun!
If anyone has the art from the chess pieces cards please let me know
100% Chance you start the game
If not, SCREW LOGIC
quick and dirty normal mode guide
early game: flood the board + place healthy minions on RIGHT side --->
late game: hero power for White Queen until win!
I really wanna see what he will do in heroic mode :0
You lose your hero power and instead get the hero power: Castle. It costs 1 mana and you can use it unlimited times per turn provided you have the mana and it moves one piece, over left once. So if you have three minions 1 2 3 and then move the third one left your minions will be 1 3 2, so you will have to use your hero power twice to move piece 3 all the way to the left.
