You're overreacting. But you're also not even close to alone. I can say from personal experience that I have never once emoted to upset someone. When I woops, I mean I made a mistake. When I wow, I'm impressed with either your play or the luck of the last RNG. When I sorry it's because i accidentally missed hitting end turn and didn;'t notice or something. When I well played, it means gg. But from the posts on here, nobody believes that's even possible. If you think that's the case, though, then just squelch everyone. Easy solution.
I don't auto-squelch because I want to give people the benefit of the doubt that they can be respectful, even if they've won.
If you are truly interested in giving your opponents the benefit of the doubt. You should give them the benefit of the doubt that their emotes are not intended as BM, until it becomes clear that they are. It's as simple as that.
If you let yourself get tilted by any emotes but still don't squelch, it's just a very poor strategy.
I only emote if they start it. Examples: Beginning of game greetings I say it back. Well played I say it back. The only time I say the wow is their insane Rng or counter to everything I do. Also I use it for the pirate aggro or shaman aggro cause they tend to BM me with their decks cause apparently I died by turn 7 and I get the whole emote bm from them .
It's down to the final turns. My board is empty and only one card can save me. It's my turn. I draw a card and it's like a totally insufficient 1/1 minion (such as abovesaid chicken). I play it with a threaten, and then let the game play out. I never concede. Cause that's obviously just hilarious.
Jesus when did people become so thin skinned and wimpy? Playing Diablo 2 LOD growing up, there was some real BM and trash talk, and it was still all fun. Nowadays you're limited to 6 pre-approved emotes and you guys are talking about BM and being upset/offended? Really? Grow a set or I guess maybe leave online games to people that can handle it?
If "Greetings" and "Well Played" emotes are too hardcore for you, maybe online gaming isn't for you.
Here's an honest question: When is it okay to use the "threaten" emote? My guess is that the popular answer is never.
I use it occasionally when i'm genuinely ticked off due to some rng. Although I know I shouldn't.
I tend to use it when I am losing badly and make a clearly pathetic play, like dropping an angry chicken against a board full of Blood Giants or other such nonsense.
I'll also use it in response to someone else's threat. I even had a guy "thank you" me after I responded to his Threaten with my own Threaten.
And when I have Jaraxus in play, I go pretty heavy on the emotes because I like his dialog.

I guess I'm a horrible person. I always greet my opponent, say oops when I make a play mistake, say something is amazing when some crazy RNG happens, and say well played after a good game.
I wish emotes weren't in the game. Yes, most emotes are BM. Like how else can you interpret that "well played" before he gives you two fireballs to the face after having no board and facing lethal next turn or drawing into exact lethal etc Just be quiet and enjoy your lucky free win. If I fucking crush you by turn 4 - there is nothing "well played" about that either. "Well played" just adds insult to injury if there wasn't any "well played" part on your or your opponent's side. If it's a close and drawn out match where neither side crushed the other, only then I believe "well played" is genuine.
If something utterly stupid RNG happens, the amazing emote makes sense. Greetings during the first round make sense. Error emote if you made an error makes sense etc

I would interpret it as "Good game" regardless of how the rest of the match went and move on with my life. Seriously, this is ridiculous and it's utterly disappointing how soft people are.

It's like 2 boxers facing off. If I'm 30kg bigger and one punch you to knock out and then say "Well that was a good match", I don't think you'd interpret it as honest statement. In the same vein it is when you knock me around for 12 rounds and then I get up in the last round, pull out my gun and shoot you in the knee, be declared victorious and then say "Well that was a good match".
Not every match is "well played". If you believe every opponent means it without BM you are simply naive.
Emotes bring nothing necessary in the game. We don't care about your politeness or your "good manners", the reality is that in the majority of cases it seems difficult to do the difference between bming and nice intervention so the best thing is to do nothing, believe me. It will be more correct and respectful for your opponent
Personally I use emotes to genuinely give congrats to my opponent if they did something awesome, oops if I did something stupid, and wow for a multitude of things. I also think people are a little too sensitive if they automatically think you're being an ass for using emotes, but maybe that's just me.
It's impossible to classify what someone means, so don't let it bother you.
This weekend I had a full board with quest rogue, quest complete against a mage. He had 8 hp and i emoted the fuck out of him to be a dick. Just non stop emotes after ending my turn with a full board of minions. Then he novad me, into a nova, into a blizzard, into iceblock, iceblock, and finally finished me with a pyroblast.
I felt so stupid. But who cares. It's fucking emotes. It means nothing. Unless the dude adds you after the game, don't let it bother you. It's really really REALLY not worth your time.
OP is right. Emoting greetings is so rude and unsportsmanlike when you first start a match. Emoting WoW, when your opponent does something generally unexpected, or a crazy RNG effect happens, is a complete A-hole move. And of course, emoting Well Played, when you get beat, and respect their play... forget about it.. You are just a piece of shit. Kappa
I say "Well Played" whether I win or lose. I don't like to say it until I actually win, but I have read here that it can be seen as condescending. I don't mean it that way though. And even if someone completely screws up and says "Wow", I don't say anything back, because I don't want to rub it in.
If the guy was an ass, I will say "Thank You" when I win.
What I don't like is when people greet you when they are about to kill you. That irks me.
But no, I don't think ANY emote is BM with no exceptions.
I've seen and had emotes actually effect the outcome of a game as a bluff. Being ten damage from lethal and hovering your fireball over their face saying "Well Played" over and over again can fake an opponent into assuming a Pyroblast and conceding.
It's not BM if it's strategic. You can actually win games being a douche.
On the other hand, I personally welcome my opponent's BM. It allows me to revenge BM when I've taken the lead. And revenge BM is deliciously sweet.

What this game really needs is a chat function. Would love to collect some salty remarks
It doesn't matter one bit what the opponent thinks.

Seems ok.
I only use emotes as BM if I received BM beforehand. Revenge is best served with BM.
