I suppose the actual incentive to grind ladder wins and keep playing is the receiving of the golden cards and dust rewards etc at the end of the season. Whether that reward is "enough" I suppose is something that could be considered.
But coming back to the OP specific topic, having gold heroes seems to have little real value anymore (I remember the days when if you saw a golden hero, you actually thought: wow! this guy must know how to play - these days I think it barely registers because it seems like every hero is golden). I'm very much for awarding achievements like this - though the downside is that you are essentially just awarding players that choose to grind, more than anything (since wins can be achieved at any rank). Maybe there are more challenging things that could be rewarded - a bit like the quest system.
Achievements along the lines of: - Win X games with a Rager in your deck. - Win X games with at least Y-amount of <tribe> in your deck - ON-CURVE!!! Play a 1-cost card on turn 1, a 2-cost on turn 2, a 3-cost on turn 3, all the way to a 10-cost on turn 10!!
more achievements would be nice. something like "play 10.000" murlocs, pirates and so on and you get a button if you achieve it or that was op said like 2500 wins with one class.
i have done "everything" in this game. all golden heros, 12 wins in arena and legendary card back. would be nice to have a new challenge.
I guess the percentage of people that can actually benefit from this was never high enough for them to justify assigning time and resources for a feature like this, but naturally it will keep growing so eventually I'm sure they will add some kind of cosmetics to identify players with more than 500 wins
