I was finding the climb a little bit of a struggle this season which came as a surprise - but this was mostly because of the number of Hunters and Paladins I have been facing. After resigning myself to the fact that playing Hunter myself meant a huge number of mirror matches (which by rights will work out at around 50% win rate) I decided to try something different. Enter the below deck that I threw together. I'm actually somewhat surprised that this deck (or similar ones) haven't become more prevalent in the current state of the meta. But that said, I've been having a lot of fun with it. It's by no means original - Spiteful Priest has been around for a long time. This is just my recent version on it.
This deck worked wonders for me taking me up safely to the R5 ledge (though I've been happy to keep playing it since then as it's still a lot of fun). I've since swapped out the two Crystalline Oracles with 2x Tar Creeper now as I have started to see a few more ZooLock and other aggro decks at Rank 5 - this helps keep them under control.
Please enjoy (if you feel like a change of pace from the standard meta). :-)
Some other points for strategy: - Against aggro, look to play Prince Keleseth early. Against any other deck (especially control), don't play him until you have at least one Twilight Acolyte in hand otherwise it will make your Cabal Shadow Priest a lot worse. - Make Spell / Beast Hunters cry with Dustbreaker - If Hunter gets out Rexxar, you will get a harder matchup. Switch to a more aggressive game play and try to beat them down fast. - Control Lock is easily countered by stealing his Voidlords / Cubes - Meca'thun decks will rape you sideways. Accept this and move on. Meca'thun is Cancer... XD - Dont overextend, but you can flood the board without too much worry these days - hardly any Druids, and even less Plagues. And nobody plays Shudderwock or Mind Control Tech anymore (Hallelujah!) - Even Paladin can be easily countered by saving your stealing for his Spikeridged minions - or even better, for Lynessa. Silence will also help you immensely here.
Priest is the most hated class even when he is shit tier, imagine if he took over the meta, people will stop playing hearthstone, i want him to be tier 1 just like KFT :(, but everyone else will hate the class more and more.
Have you tried Spirit of the Dead? your deck is minion heavy, could do wonders with it.
Geist has gotten worse over time, there are better things to run.
Benedictus is going to be relevant in too few matches, not worth it
There's an alarming lack of 5 drops. Other decks can compensate this by running plenty of 4 drops and 1 drops or 2 drops and 3 drops, but that can't work with your list (because you only have two 1 drops and one 2 drop). Why are you not running scalebane? Not only it's a great 5 drop that suits the style of spiteful decks, but it's also a dragon.
In the spirit of the last point, I would also add the second fungalmancer
Other considerations:
The lich king isn't really necessary because you already have 2 copies of free from amber and an archivist (you don't want to make the deck more top heavy than it already is)
The DK is kinda spicy but it would be one of the first things to cut imo.
Not sure if 2 copies of cabal shadow priest are necessary, 1 could be good enough (especially considering it's not great vs hunter)

I find that highly questionable. Spiteful decks are tempo/beatdown decks. Yes, you can switch gameplans, but not playing keleseth just to make your stealing better is most likely going to hurt you more than it will help you.

Oh I don't know about that - Shaman has held the "most hated" class since Beta, if you played as far back as then. Priest was bottom of the pile for a long time until Dragopn Priest was finally a thing (and then KFT brought the Raza Anduin package)
Have you tried Spirit of the Dead? your deck is minion heavy, could do wonders with it.
I have tried with it occasionally. It seems to be hit and miss a lot of the time, but I might try a bit more fiddling with it to see if it could work.
Geist has gotten worse over time, there are better things to run.
Possibly. I've found him to be incredibly good against Hunters using Trackign and Hunter's Mark, etc though. Do you have an alternative suggestion?
Benedictus is going to be relevant in too few matches, not worth it
I think this might have to be a subjective decision. I use him frequently myuself - especially against the Control Warriors that are trying to counter the Hunter matchups. Of course, I agree he is not useful for every matchup for sure. But a lot of control mirrors go to fatigue and he is great then. I just played a game against BS Mage and managed to get a copy of his Jaina which saved the game for me. :-)

I have found Scalebane simply doesn't work very well in this deck. He is very slow and often you are working with a fairly empty board so he doesn't do much to help. The dragon part is certainly useful, of course, but there just isn't room for him from what I've found. I've always got something to play on turn 5, usually.
The lich king isn't really necessary because you already have 2 copies of free from amber and an archivist (you don't want to make the deck more top heavy than it already is)
Granted, he could be removed. I might be more inclined to ditch the archivist though, as the Lich King is simply better than him in most cases.
The DK is kinda spicy but it would be one of the first things to cut imo.
Yeah, you could switch him for something. But tbh, he is REALLY good against Hunter when Rexxar comes online, however. He is the go to card for dealing with huge Stealth minions :-)

Definitely need 2 in my opinion, even against Hunter (when Rexxar appears)

could use thaurissain, deathlord, dirty rat and raza, great additions
Gotta love these posts. This deck is meant to be used in Standard, my friend, despite being good suggestions for a Wild-build.
As for OP, the deck seems good, but it's not doing anything better than the already existing lists of Spiteful Priest and Control Priest. In fact, I think Control Priest is better than this list, as you seem to have very few Duskbreaker activators. A total of 6 dragons seems too little. It seems to want to add different aspects together, taking the Fatigue-approach from the Quest-build, the Control-approach and the Spiteful-approach, which, in my mind, can get messy.
That being said, you do mention you've been doing well. But as with all such statements, I would like to know at what ranks you've been piloting this deck, and what your winrate is. Especially in regards to when playing certain classes.

Currently playing Dragon Galakrond Priest, Dragon Galakrond Warrior and Highlander Dragon Hunter.
I still disagree about most stuff but oh well, it's your deck after all :)
Regarding the keleseth thing, funny as it might be, please don't hold it, it's not worth it
Just to clarify, I'm not telling you that you are "wrong", just that I think there are counter arguments to your points and am putting them forward. I appreciate (and am grateful for) the feedback. THank you! :-)

Thanks - yes, there are few dragons. On one or two occasions I have found myself needing to topdeck one. I suppose that this is the risk when playing a deck that covers other bases like this one does. The reason being that I have found most standard Spiteful decks fall very hard when up against control or late game decks. So the tech is in there to help defeat those matchups (or have a good chance at least)
That being said, you do mention you've been doing well. But as with all such statements, I would like to know at what ranks you've been piloting this deck, and what your winrate is. Especially in regards to when playing certain classes.
I played it roughly from rank 9 through the rank 5 up to rank 4. At which point i wanted to try something different thanks to the ledge safety. :-)

That's because you can only play pussy Anduin, unless you got Tyrande from the Twitch promotion ages ago while paladin has 3 hero's to choose from, 4 if you bought the Halloween promotion.
I had great success on the 10-5 ladder (EU) unfortunately I didn't play any hunters, but the fact this deck is still producing results even when not matched with Hunter is pretty good. I must admit I didn't find Skulking Geist very beneficial, but that being said you have mentioned why you run it with the expectations of vsing hunters.

I don't think he was referring to the class character skin...
Why are people still thinking its Hunterstone ? Its not!
That's your takeaway from this thread? Lol! XD You're triggered just because someone used the term Hunterstone... oh dear...
Hunter is way more interactive and fun to play against , and i dont see them nowhere as much as i face Priests. https://imgur.com/a/1BzKR8n
Subjective opinion is subjective... I've added my own statistics for you to this comment. Because this is what I got, this must be the same for everyone. right? Ooh lookee! 27% for both Hunter and Paladin! Yeah, no Hunters playing right now... Yay statistics!
If i would be a mod here , i would demand OP to take the post down , since it is clearly not "Hunterstone".
Good thing you're not then, since you would be asking the OP to do something that is not within their power. Forum users cannot delete a thread once it is created. And demanding a thread be deleted just because your #feels are hurt by a simple term like "Hunterstone" is rather childish - generally not the sort of quality that admins would look for in a Mod, usually.
Guess you didn’t play when Raza Priest was so strong they nerfed Raza before rotation so wild would only have to deal with Big Barnes Priest except they nerfed Aviana & Naga Sea Witch , and still allow Barnes to scream
“Tonight ! a Tale of True Terror, By Fire Be purged, Warriors of the frozen waste , Rise! Gorge your Hatred...”
So yeah Priest can fuck itself. It had its time to shine in standard back in 2017 & is still high rolling over people in 2019.
I guess you weren't playing further back before that when Priest was consistently the worst class in the game, regardless of the meta and the whole community were crying out for priest to be given a decent set of cards for a change. Of course, once Priest became a good class, you had the usual whiners claiming it was "too OP". That's life.

My feelings are not hurt.
Your term is simply misleading and wrong .
Just watch some streamers, all they meet is Priest and Paladin (mostly). Maybe at lower Ranks there are a lot of Hunter, because its easy to pilot.... But we shouldnt focus on those ranks , shouldnt we?

Gave this deck a go on my lunch break at work with the following changes:
- Shadowreaper Anduin
- Archbishop Benedictus
-1 Cabal Shadow Priest
+1 Fungalmancer
+2 Cobalt Scalebane

Remember when they nerfed Razah because they deemed it too strong? (they didn't like the fact that it lead to OTK'ing your opponent) ...Yeah.
