I don't want to put a downer on Hearthstone, but it really feels like the devs have run out of ideas and are just reprinting cards with powercreep. Warlock can literally discover and play The Azerite Snake to be played on curve. I'm not saying that it's very likely or you would ever want to do that, but it just shouldn't be possible. Such a swingy card should be more akin to a quest reward or 8+ mana card.
The fact it's a minion makes replaying it more than once very likely, and at worst we have a 10 mana, 2-card combo that deals 20 damage and heals 20 health.
The discrepancy between the classess is going to be more pronounced than ever. I'm also very cynical about the current approach of "release stuff that's obviously very overpowered" only to nerf it 2 weeks later after everyone has suffered from a shit meta for 2 weeks. I would say that "maybe the devs have more data than us" but history tells us that this is not the case and the obviously overpowered cards are, in fact, overpowered.
I expect it to be nerfed fast to like 9 mana - afterall it is a Pyroblast on a set of stats that also makes it impossible to heal it back the damage and gain health ontop off that
I think you all are very optimistic on a 4 card combo that requires Thaddius polarity and some bad cards to be played before it. Maybe this will be the big combo finisher warlock needs, but this decklist isn’t it.

I am not sure if anybodys comment was actually about the deck, I at least talked about the card itself.
There is probably no need for thaddius, to pull of a combo, also I dont know if you need or want to Combo it At all... but the card is nuts for sure
Yeah card is nuts for sure, but it’s going to be a lot harder than copy its effect to make a winning strategy with it. You have to excavate 4 times to get the card, and outside of the class cards and kobold, they suck. If you see burrow buster in a list, big red flag. I think the excavate package might fit in with the imp package and be viable, but I have doubts on a control warlock looking to abuse the snake battlecry as a reasonable deck.
I mean it looks like a effect for control but the first two concepts I came up with was, Imp/excavate and Fatigue/excavate.
With fatigue you get even more out of hand dmg and some tempo and imps give great draw and a truckload of tempo.
Also if I would play it in control, I'd prolly wouldnt go for a fancy combo, maybe I'd use one or two bouncer if the Deck has enough bounceworthy stuff but I wouldnt make it depend on a bounce Combo.
I'm actually dissapointed with Blizzard with this expansion and Caverns of Time, as a OG Renolock player I find this expansions a missed opportunity to bring back to the meta my all time favorite deck.
In Caverns of Time they bothered to just ''buff'' Krul the Unshackled with +2 attack, what were they thinking? +2 attack on a 9 mana minion it would make it playable? On a card that is the effect of the battlecry and the mana cost what matters most, why not give the demons you summon have rush instead?
And now they make finally another expansion for highlander decks and guess what, they didn't maked warlock any single highlander card for this class were it all began.
Instead they make another overpowered toxic Demon seed-like payoff card that can't be run on Highlander decks, because you want two copies of each excavate card to have the reward more consistently and faster.
And no, the Azerite Snake is not just a 4 mana 5/5 pyroblast with lifesteal as most people are saying, is stealing 10 health from the opponent that can't be regained through healing effects, so your max health will be 40 and the opponent's 20 permanently that's if you play it just once, with bounce effects you can make an easy OTK that is just as dumb as the Demon Seed reward.
I thought it was just lifesteal like Dar’Khan. That’s pretty nuts then. If it can be brought back to hand or copied, it’s mind blowing. Ah Team 5, will you ever learn?

Big differences with Dar’Khan:
Azerite snake is a battcry so it must be played to get the effect and it only happens once.
This isn’t damage or lifesteal, it gets around immune and protection. This will still kill a mage with 9 life and ice block or solid alibi. This will get past Malganis because it’s not targeted.
This is why I think of it as a finisher more than a combo piece, your opponent is losing 10 life no matter what when this is played.
As much as I like the idea of some max health stealing card, It's a hot mess for this type of reward. As long as you can guarantee it through excavate, it will be a popular card, and as long as it's a legendary reward it must be powerful. No point in having one single card that steals 3 health, that would be an epic card. For a single legendary reward it's actually fair enough but they must restrict this effect from going off multiple times somehow.
The azerite snake is only going to be fun for the person who plays it. It's going to miserable to get hit by, the meta is going to be miserable if it ends up being good, and it's going to be miserable if it ends up being bad. Like, there's just no way to make such a warping card like this feel like an acceptable part of the game.
The biggest problem with these tier 4 excavates is just the fact that they're battlecry minions, making bounce effects premium cards. Just excavate 4 times then use cards like projectionist, zola, pandas etc. to win the game by spamming the reward. It doesn't feel like it was intended to work that way. Why not make these rewards a spell? It'd make it a hell of a lot harder to duplicate it.
I'm absolutely terrified that rogue has a tier 4 excavate because they have shadowstep and breakdance available - if the reward is a broken battlecry minion, excavate rogue is going to make everyone sad.

The combo builds itself: Thaddius, Monstrosity even polarity > The Azerite Snake > Celestial Projectionist > The Azerite Snake > Celestial Projectionist > The Azerite Snake
This is less fun than what I had in mind, but undoubtedly more effective. xD
And yeah, even as a Warlock, the Snake seems kind of busted with how it's copyable.
I suspect they might tone it down eventually to 8 health stolen, making you need a whole extra copy.
If you see a bad post on the forum use the report function under it, so I or someone else of the moderation team can take care of it!
lol even at 6-7 health stolen it would definitely still be powerful.
Warlock having access to too many heal effects is so dangerous.
It's giving Greater Amethyst Spellstone era warlock, cant wait.
It's the typical first-second week nerf card.
Actually I have no idea how it went live like that, Astalor is garbage in comparsion.
I am a warlock Main and I rly hate it, it's just to good.
My expectation is, it will go to 5, maybe even 6 mana and 8 HP, not in one nerf but it will see more then one for sure
PW Synch is or only hope

So, by the turn 5 not only you've excavated 4 times, but also had slime + taddy combo in hand and your opponent didn't remove/silence/steal it.
Cool, look forward to hearing from you when you reach rank 1 legend with this deck.
I think I’m missing something. There’s no “The Azerite Snake” in actual deck and I couldn’t find the card anywhere. Which card is it please?
It's new excavated WL legendary as i understand, 4 mana creature with battlecry "steal 10 health from enemy hero". Look here

It’s not clear to me how this works with armor.
