And if you replace the 1 mana with a 0 and the and the two attack with a 1 and you replace the card text with empty space you have a wisp! That would be insane! A free creature! The value!
Other than maybe faerie dragon I don't really want a dragon in my starting hand. It's basically a card that hedges your bets. If you're punished with a dead card for at least the next 4 turns at least you get a nice start I guess.
Unless priest doesnt play Auchenai Soulpriest. Also they would have to play Faeire dragon and Azure Drake or some other dragon that can be played withing the first 5 turns.. because playing twilight whelp as a 2/1 is awful
This card is trash and just seems like it might be good. Think about it. Zombie Chow is a turn 1 drop always. Twilight Whelp is not. You have to be playing priest, and you need to be playing heavy dragons, and you need to screw yourself on your opening hand so that this is a turn 1 drop. None of those are good. Let's say you don't hose yourself by holding an 8-9 mana dragon in your opening hand, you then need to draw into a high-cost dragon on turn two to even make this a turn 2 drop. Also terrible. This is entirely the opposite of OP and unless someone comes up with some sort of combo or use outside of the box, this is garbage.
I think people are being way too critical of it. I like the idea of having Chow and Twilight Whelp in a deck. You get much better odds of getting a turn 1 play that way without having to gamble away a northshire cleric. Also, They both have synergy with different parts of a deck, if you build it with both Dragons and COH combos in mind
I do feel a little shafted though. It feels like giving Cogmaster to Warlocks as a class card while Paladins got the Goblin Blast Mage of the set
The major difference between this and ZC is that this isn't AS bad if you draw it late game. If you still have a dragon in hand, a late game 2/3 may find utility in killing belcher slimes, totems or paladin dudes, whereas a lategame when you're finally getting your opponent low you don't want to give them a chance to get 5 health back. But as a one drop, this is a far riskier and therefore worse drop.
If this were 2 mana instead with buffed stats it would be so much better. Priest already runs Zombie Chow as a 1 drop fairly consistently because they seldom care about giving 5 life to the opponent and the potential synergy with Auchenai. As is I'm not certain this will be a 2/3 often enough early on - and while yes it is better late game in many scenarios as it will be very easy to make a 2/3 - I'm not sure that 's enough.
Card is decent, depends on how strong a priest dragon deck is. At worst case, it's a basic stats worth for a 1 drop; so at least you play SOMETHING. In best case, the stats jump to 2/3, standard for a 2 drop minion. Plus since it's a dragon itself, if you have two in your hand on first turn you get two draws worth of time to get another dragon for the second one while getting the first one buffed.
The issue I saw with priest was too much lacking in early game minions. GvG didn't help much. The only good early game minion priest (that is actually used) has access too is the Northshire Cleric and Zombie Chow.

2 mana 2/2, if you hold a dragon: 2/5. Then I would consider playing it. A solid two drop in priest would be nice and maybe make it worth playing dragons.
It would be playable (not OP) if it were neutral. However Priest is the class that cares the least about Zombie Chows drawback. Furthermore, you need to have a dragon in your starting hand for it to be as good as Chow and you don't want to keep a 5-9 drop just to enable the whelp.
Maybe I could see a priest deck with both Chow, Whelp and Blackwing Technician being played to take advantage of Velen's Chosen, but I doubt it would be Tier 1.

I'm so glad there is prejudice against playing hunter/zoo/[insert FotM deck here]. People like that make the life so much easier for those of us who play to win.

Don't forget there are other dragons besides the 7+ mana ones. Azure Drake and Faerie Dragon are the first two that come to mind that a priest would use in a dragon themed deck. Azure Drake being good enough stand-alone in any priest deck, actually.

Twilight Whelp
Replace the word 'dragon' with 'beast' and put it in a Hunter deck and you're looking at a silenced Zombie Chow for 1 mana. OP or not?

Well that would NEVER happen. so no.
*~Echo of Medivh~* <3
It's a conditional class minion and dragons are a tougher condition than beasts so no.

this thread is pointless.

Zombie Chow have more synergy, than Twilight Whelp ONLY in Priest decks. Guess, which class receive that Whelp?
I bring life and pffffffffffffff!
Zombie chow is still much better.

Not sure if hyped yet.
but... its not a beast. Or hunter.
It's the two things that are completely opposite of that.
So..... no. But if if you replace "no" with "yes" and if I fell for feeding a stupid troll post... then yes, Twilight Whelp is totally OP.

dragon priest will never be a thing so no
This card is absolutely pointless as long as ZC exists. Should've been gain +1/+1 if holding a dragon.
^^^ So will they get nerfed soon?

Nerf to 6/7?
