Hi~ so when is the right to DE my ragnaros and sylvannas? right now? then wait for the new patch (year of the mammoth) after the patch they will return the full value dust to me? Kindly correct me if im wrong.
We wanted to allow players to disenchant Classic cards that are being added to the Hall of Fame set for full dust refunds, but then felt that incentivizing players to dust their cool Wild cards was counter to our goal of making Wild awesome.So instead, we're just going to give you the dust, and you can keep the cards!
Up to the maximum number of cards you could put in a deck, we will give you the full dust value of any cards you have that are being added to the Hall of Fame set. (Yes, that means if you have at least one Golden Ragnaros, you'll get 3200 dust!) The dust will be automatically awarded upon log-in once the Year of the Mammoth begins.
If you read the text I bolded there, it is very heavily implied that they are giving the full dust value for having the cards INSTEAD of offering full DE value. I don't see how to interpret it differently.
Am I the only one who thinks that MrZNF should get a medal or something ?

Don't DE them! You get the dust only if you own the cards when the next expansion goes live, and you get to keep the cards!
If you're sure you'll never play wild you could DE them after you get the dust from blizz (expansion is expected to go live end of april). But this would be using regular DE costs, not full dust value.
Edit: @Alkoviak thanks :D just trying to help people be efficient with their dust. It can be tricky sometimes.
I've seen a lot of confusion about how to maximize your dust when the rotation comes around and some classic card move to Wild.
Here is a list from most to least dust you can gain in regards to a legendary. The options that are struck through are strictly worse than other options and should never be chosen.
Already have a regular and golden Rag, then dust both after rotation. 3200 + 1600 + 400 = +5200 Already have a golden Rag, then dust after rotation. 3200 + 1600 = +4800 Already have a golden Rag, then keep it. +3200 Have a golden Rag, craft a regular Rag, then dust golden Rag after rotation. -1600 + 3200 + 1600 = +3200 + gold Rag is now regular Rag Already have a regular Rag, then dust after rotation. 1600 + 400 = +2000 Have a golden Rag, craft a regular Rag, then dust regular Rag after rotation. -1600 + 3200 + 400 = +2000 Already have a regular Rag, then keep it. +1600 Already have a regular Rag, craft a golden Rag, then dust after rotation. -3200 + 3200 + 1600 = +1600 Have neither golden or regular Rag, craft golden Rag, then dust after rotation. -3200 + 3200 + 1600 = +1600 Have neither golden or regular Rag, craft regular Rag, then dust after rotation. -1600 + 1600 + 400 = +400 Have neither golden or regular Rag, craft golden Rag, then keep it. -3200 + 3200 = 0 + golden Rag Have neither golden or regular Rag, craft regular Rag, then keep it. -1600 + 1600 = 0 + regular Rag Have neither golden or regular Rag, craft both, then dust golden Rag after rotation. -3200 - 1600 + 3200 + 1600 = 0 + regular Rag Have neither golden or regular Rag, craft both, then dust regular Rag after rotation. -3200 - 1600 + 3200 + 400 = -1200 + golden Rag Have neither golden or regular rag, craft both, then keep them. -3200 - 1600 + 3200 = -1600 + both Rags
I'm pretty sure this works for rare cards as well. Commons may be different since there's a +10 dust gain when dusting a golden common and then crafting a regular common.
Hope this helps! If you see a mistake, feel free to tell me and I'll make a correction.
Just missing one case. In case someone is interested in having golden legendary and not so much about the dust:
IMO I wouldn't do it. Wasting 1200 dust in giving gold finishing to your rag seems a little bit expensive. XDDD
Already have a regular Rag, craft a golden Rag, then dust regular one after rotation. -3200 + 3200 + 400 = +400 + regular rag is now golden.
Yep, great thread and well explained by OP. I had done the math before finding this post and I arrived at the same conclusion.
Since I already have all the normal versions of the cards, I won't do anything because crafting all the golden commons (2400 dust cost total) feels too risky to me for only a 60 dust total gain in the end. 2400 dust is all I have at the moment, and it felt like a walk across (pirate) hell and back to obtain it. In my head, it goes like this:
- (Blizzard): Hey, give me all your money, I'll give it back to you with 60 more bucks in a month and a half.
- I say: "Screw you! I gave you 40$ so far this year and the only thing you gave back to me was Hogger, Doom of Elwynn!
Thanks for reminding me about the commons and 10 dust profit. I already upgraded my Rag to golden, and I'd like to also upgrade the Drakes, but I don't think I have enough dust for both those and the 6 commons... so instead of 80 dust, I now have to think whether the upgrade is worth 110 dust or not. And ofc there's the Sylvanas as well.
Edit: nvm, I'd lose more value by disenchanting cards to gain the dust than I'd gain from those commons.
So, I'm thinking of buying packs for the sole purpose of gathering dust to make golden versions. How much dust can I expect to garner from a given set, assuming I have all of the cards in normal form? Is there any set that's better for dusting purposes than another?
There is approximately 100 dust per pack, on average (assuming that you disenchant everything in the packs).
Every set's packs have the same rarity distribution, so it doesn't matter which set's packs you buy.
If that's your plan, I'd recommend buying Classic packs, since then you have an (admittedly very small) chance of opening golden Ragnaros or Sylvanas and saving yourself a bunch of dust.
Disenchanting a pack gives you 40 dust on average.
Just one clarification, ok for legendaries and rares, pretty simple, but where is the 10 dust value of crafting golden commons and then disenchanting them? (i already have regulars)
It should be the difference between the disenchanting value of a golden common (50) and the crafting of a common (40), right?
And, more importantly, its 100% sure that we can disenchant golden cards even after they enter in the hall of fame?
If yes, can i get a source? Thanks a lot =)
You are correct on where the 10 dust comes from (as described in OP). Yes, See Note2 in OP;
If I craft Golden Ragnaros (spend 3200), I get 3200 refund when Mammoth arrives. But then can I also DE golden ragnaros for 1600, so I make 1600 profit?
Does anyone have any prediction when Mammoth releases? 2 weeks? 2 months? half year?
Current predictions have the new expansion go live (= start of the year of Mammoth) end of April. This falls in line with previous release dates and lines up with the tournament schedule (i,e, allowing people to discover the new content and prepare for the tournaments). This has not been confirmed yet to my knowledge though.

4 commons +5+5+5+5
1 rare +20
That's not average. Every 20 packs has a legendary, which alone raises the average to ~60. The epics raise the average to ~80. The rest comes from golden cards and extra rares.

This is for those who have: 1. Normal Sylvanas 2. Spare 3200 dust 3. Enjoys the Wild 4. Want a Golden Sylvanas (Cos she is more sexy in Golden outfit) but not sure to do it now or after rotation Heres the scenarios for your consideration;
Scenario 1 Dust I have now 3200 After Rotation: Normal Sylvanas dust refund from Blizz 1600 After Rotation: Craft golden Sylvanas -3200 After Rotation: Dust Normal Sylvanas 400 Dust Balance 2000
Scenario 2 Dust I have now 3200 Dust Normal Sylvana now 400 Craft Golden Sylvanas now -3200 After Rotation, Golden Sylvanas dust Refund from Blizz 3200 Dust Blance 3600
If I am not mistaken, you will only get standard/ golden Sylvanas through crafting after rotation as she will not be available through classic packs thereafter. Same applies to Rag too.
Moved to card discussion, where it should be :)
Just a quick clarification if i have 1 normal drake and 1 golden will i get both the golden dust and the normal or just the golden
So if you have 1 gold and 2 normal, you will get dust for 1 gold and 1 normal. If you have 2 gold and 2 normal you get dust for 2 gold.

Should you craft/disenchant (Golden) Sylvanas or Ragnaros?

yes you can DE them as usual for 1600/golden legendary respectively 400 for a normal one.
ups, how to delete comment? useless stupid dup comment. XD

Craft any of these cards if you dont have them. For sure.
In terms of golden vs normal:
Basically you should craft golden versions if you want to keep the golden versions of that card at a crazy discount.
Otherwise just get your normal pay out and move on.
Great thread. Still don't understand how this is so hard for everyone.

Yes, See Note2 in OP;
Note2: It IS possible to DE cards after the expansion hits (against regular DE value only) even though Hearthpwn news mentioned it not to be possible; http://www.hearthpwn.com/news/2247-some-classic-cards-moving-to-wild-three-expansions
There is no mention of this in the official Blizzard post; http://us.battle.net/hearthstone/en/blog/20475356/a-year-of-mammoth-proportions-2-16-2017
and Ben Brode already confirmed it on twitter: https://twitter.com/bdbrode/status/832304105624178688
