New player here, i started playing 4 days ago and chose Warlock... So far i managed to get up to rank 14 but that's where my deck hurt a wall.
I saved 300 Dust so i can craft 3 rares for my deck but i wonder where should i invest them first. On better creatures or on spells like Shadowflame and Siphon Soul.
My current decklist so you can see what i've been playing so far is a few post down.
As you can see, nothing very impressive but until now it worked well enough.
Rank 14 with this deck is pretty damn good. What kind of deck do you want to make..aggro? Aggro/Control, or Control?
The worst cards in your deck are the 2 Frost Elementals, 2 Darkscale Healer, 1 Raid Leader.
The first Rares I would make are Defender of Argus. Add another Earthen Ring Farseer, Voidwalker, 2 Chillwind Yeti. Kobold Geomancers might be nice too. The 0/1 Stealth Imp is good too.
Alot of people will tell you to craft the "must have" neutral cards before anything else just for the fact that they will fit into any deck. Azure drakes, Defender of Argus and Argent commanders all give you excellent value and will help your deck immensely. Just from personal experience I don't think its worth it to craft any common cards w your dust as you will eventually unpack them. So if you tough it out just save dust and use it to get good rares, epics and legendary cards. just my 2 cents
Long term play would be to turn in late game control with the Giants and Jarraxus i think. From what i see it looks badass ;)
So right now i was wondering about the spells i mentioned earlier Shadowflame and Siphon Soul or go for better creatures like Defender of Argus, Sunfury Protector, Azure Drake, Twilight Drake...
Not really a game plan here, pretty much trying to win games with whatever i can use!
Raid Leader will be out as soon as i can craft another Earthen Ring Farseer.
I also have one neutral rare that can't attack (can't remember the name) but no real way to silence it other than 1 Owl.
I wasn't planning on crafting the commons, i will eventually pull them from packs rewarded in Arena (i hope at least!)
I don't plan on playing anything else than Warlock, i'm not looking to play whatever Hero is the best or in the actual trend. That's why i was considering going right away in crafting the Warlock Rare spells. The Epic and Legendaries are way to expensive for me right now, i think it would be wiser to go for the must have rares right now.
Ancient Watchers are good Shadowflame targets plus once you get DoA and Sunfury Protector then you can taunt them up.
If you plan on making the Handlock Giants deck make those cards first and in the meantime just do the best you can..DoA is good for your deck now and will be for Giants Later.
It's true that all these cards will be needed at some point later when i can afford to craft more expensive cards!
So maybe one Sunfury Protector, 2 DoA which would let me play with my copy of Ancient Watcher. or one Sunfury, 1 Doa and one spell like Shadowflame and still play the Ancient Watcher and see how it goes.
One side question about golden cards. If i disenchant them, can i craft them again or is it impossible and you can only pull them from packs?
you can craft golden cards anytime, but be careful, because they are ultra-expensive... a golden common is 400 dust, golden rare 800, golden epic 1600... so...
I know they are super expensive it's just that i have a few i use in my deck and was thinking that i could get some extra Dust by disenchanting these and crafting regular versions of these cards.
Maybe later i will craft them back but i was wondering how this golden cards system as working exactly.
I just have Golden Commons so far but i thought that Golden Rare and above could give you even more profit Dust than the small 10 you get from disenchanting Golden Commons...
Personally, I would wait for the ability to craft a Molten Giant. Everything else can wait, but the addition of a Molten Giant to a Warlock deck completely changes the dynamic. You will, in theory, always have a saving grace and every single time you life tap, you gain a potential advantage going on later into the game.
If you must craft something now, I wouldn't be opposed to crafting a few commons as well since they are the foundation of your deck. Harvest Golems is a great card. Sunfury and Defender of Argus are often vital to Giants decks. I've seem some run Azure Drakes for the draw power and the small addition of a decent mid-game monster and Shadowflame buff of sorts, they're very good for pushing the power of an entry-level deck up. You can grab another Loot Hoarder, or even push for more universal cards like Sunwalker/Argent Commander.
You can't go wrong with the fundamental choices for crafting but again, I encourage you to save up for the Giants.
It's true that the Molten Giant would help a lot but that's a very long road ahead of me to get there right now!
I really have a problem with the end game right now, that's why i've been keeping the Frost Elemental since they help me stall the big bad guys they put agains me and buy some time to finish off the game with a few direct damage through spells.
I don't know about the commons though... If i do it right i can still get one shot at the arena every 3/4 days so i might end up getting what i need without spending any Dust on these.
I still have my 300 saved up, haven't decided what to do yet since i was able to climb back the ladder a bit more, now rank 12.
Thanks anyway, you gave me some more things to consider!
Ran into a couple of nasty decks who knocked me back to rank 14. No real deck design problem that get me these losses, simply couldn't match some of their cards since i don't have the big finishers and i am a bit light on the main game for really good creatures.
I think that with next 300 Dust (if i can get that many again!) i think i will go for one more DoA and one more Sunfury plus probably one Siphon Soul.
Thanks a lot to all for your input, helped me a lot. Too bad the Warlock Endgame is so expensive to craft :/
While I am not Legend ranked, I think your best investment, based on your current deck make up, would be Siphon Soul. Not only are they far more useful and reliable with your current deck set up. Siphon Soul are staple warlock cards no matter what type of deck you run; Murloc or gaints. The fact that you only have 1 Defender and 1 Protector reduces some of the power of Molten or Mountain giant. IMO
Yes Siphon Soul was on my short list since the beginning because it looks very effective!
Like i said on the previous post i will certainly craft one copy of it to test it and see what card i already have on copy of is the most useful and craft a second one as soon as i can get more Dust. I'm absolutely free players and only playing Warlock so right now i don't make much gold each day and Arena entry fee is a bit high right now... Will have to stick with what i've got now for some time i guess!
Just as some constructive criticism. Drop the 2 ogres for 2 chillwind yeti, it's a much more effective card because of that one extra toughness. Before you say I need it for the spell power, you should be fine w the two kobold geomancers just use them more strategically.
Just something to think about: Soul Siphon has some anti-synergy with Molten Giants. It seems like a toss up on how well you can manage your health, considering you may want to rush your health down to get Molten Giants out early, but the healing from Drain Life and Soul Siphon may be counter intuitive.
It all depends on how you want the pacing of your deck to be, if you prefer a more suicidal version of a Giants deck to achieve high-risk high-reward play, you probably don't want to run any form of healing and more health lowering cards like Flame Imp and Pit Lord. Think of your risk on spectrum that is inversely related to reward, the more healing you have, the more it pushes to safer play and reduces the potential reward as you slow down the pace of your deck. On the other hand, the inclusion of cards that deal damage to you push your risk higher, but give way to better game-ending board states where you overwhelming the opponent mid-game.
@ ChinChoppa : I tried the Yeti and it's good but sometimes i lack the +1 Spell Damage and sometimes i lack the +1 Def so i rotate them once every two games and in 2 or 3 days i will definitively choose one or the other.
@ Aishi : I see what you mean about the Giant/ Life gain Synergy but to be honest if i craft the Siphon Soul it will be in replacement of the Drain Life. It's 3 mana for only 2 Damage / 2Hp win (considering i don't have any Kobold / Ogre mage on the board) so it looks a bit overpriced to me. And even more if i finally drop out the Ogre Magi for the Yeti.
Plus getting the Giant would mean dropping the Elemental so i would need more Minions control to be sure there is no opposition whatever that opposition can be!

Here's the version a bit updated but still got the 3 rares to craft
It's now getting very hard to win! Went up to rank 12 and get back to 14 as fast as i came.
I expected to run into people who had great cards but not that fast ;)

I was lucky during my last Arena, open a pack with one more Earthen Ring Farseer and one Shadowflame :)
I took out the Raid Leader for the Farseer and one Drain Life for Shadowflame.
So still have the mean to craft 3 rares or save up for some epic like Molten Giant... Undecided lol
