As the title says, Moat Lurker is amazing. The trick is putting it in the right deck and using it correctly.
In case you don't recall, or are too lazy to click, Moat Lurker is a 6 mana 3/3 that has Battlecry: Destroy a minion and Deathrattle: Resummon it. At first glance that drawback seems awful. Best case, you use it late game to get through a taunt and hopefully the drawback never comes into play. But in that case, why not just run Assassinate? This is a bad card, right? Well, not always...
Try putting it in a deathrattle rogue and targeting primarily your own minions. Here are some things you can do:
Use it to kill your own Sylvanas and steal a minion. She could already be on the board, or you can get them both out on the same turn with coins from Tomb Pillager (which you will have very often in the deck I've linked). Keep in mind that when your Moat Lurker dies, it will summon another Sylvanas.
Use it to kill an enemy minion, then Shadowstep it (or use a Bloodthistle Toxin from Xaril). This way the drawback is completely eliminated, plus you now have a 4 mana Moat Lurker, making the Sylvanas combo even easier.
You can also use an Unearthed Raptor to copy Moat Lurker's deathrattle, giving you yet another Sylvanas. (This does not work with Faceless Manipulator because the way it "copies" a card works differently- you'll get another Moat Lurker, but it's deathrattle won't do anything. Disguised Toast has confirmed this).
In the late game you can use it to kill an otherwise useless Loot Hoarder and draw a card, then get that Loot Hoarder back.
You can Unearthed Raptor a Cairne, then Moat Lurker the Raptor to get that extra couple damage next turn. Or use the Cairne to kill a smaller minion, then Moat Lurker the damaged Cairne to get a full health Blaine, then another Cairne when Moat Lurker dies.
These are just a few examples. And these are not oddball corner cases, they come up nearly every game. Check out the deck I have linked, it is insanely fun, and pretty damn good! I will warn you though, it is tricky to play. You need to think ahead a few turns, spot and make creative combos, and think things carefully through. It is very easy to play suboptimally. This is most definitely not a "play the most expensive card I can each turn" kind of deck. It's more along the lines of Patron Warrior or Miracle Rogue.
I get this is not the most obvious thing, but I can't believe I haven't seen more people trying this. It is so much fun. It is a nice change of pace to have to think a little more than usual. I actually think Blizzard is trying (only somewhat successfully) to push this playstyle a little more. Mechanics like Discover are a good example... but that's a different discussion.
Anyway, here's the deck I've been using. There is a bit of a write up on it now, if enough people are interested I'll do a more detailed guide.
What is Hearthstone to you? A fun and semi-competitive game with wacky effects and crazy RNG outcomes or just a card game you wanna grind as many wins you can get as fast as possible in?
In this type of deck, why would you not include N'zoth for late game? For every deathrattle minion you kill and respawn, you'd get another one with N'zoth. Two Sylvanas', Two Cairn, and another Moat Lurker that does nothing, but it's a late game 3/3. Seems like a natural fit.
omg. if you shadowstep him, he's a cheap assassinate 3/3 body as well. Does it cancel his deathrattle if you put him back in your hand? has anyone tried this?
I guess its ok in Rogue, but its far better in shaman with evolve thats for sure. but still a nice combo i actually run 1 moat lurker in my Reno Rogue. Since there you can easily run shadowstep as a 1 off.
But im realy not sure if this is a good 2 off in Deathrattle rogue since a good enemy will always try to keep your board clean and than it can end up as weird especially if you draw 2 on hand. So ill would propably go with it as a 1 off there.
I totally blew this guy off as garbage, along with a lot of the new cards from this adventure that I'm finding new use for, but he seems a lot more legit now. I'm gonna have to experiment with this.
Ive been enjoying running him in a deck similar to mill rogue that chains spells to play free giants out the wazoo to decient success i have been getting ruffly a 60-65% win rate average brought down alot by the fact it has an atrocious match up vs tempo mage. Win rate vs tempo mage is only about 5-10% because there is no evicerate i dont have an effective way to kill the flame walker but it i good.
You can also run evolve or brewmasters or if your running wild you can use the change what he is guy or silence or purify. Thought i have the most fun running it in mill rogue with the giants. Though I really enjoy playing it the current version is below though Im still tweaking changes to it.
I made a N'zoth Rogue just to finish the 50g rogue quest and put Moat Lurker in it. Dude definitely exceeded my expectations. However, I was pretty lucky, because I never had him before turn 5 just sitting in hand throughout the early game.
Why not play Barnes? Seems like he would be pretty solid in that decklist
I had Barnes in it for a while, and he was pretty good, but I eventually realized that Emperor Thaurissan is even better. So many of these cards return a card to your hand, as a result your hand is always on the verge of being too full. In that situation, Thaurissan is amazing. He hits 7-9 cards every time.
I may eventually try to fit Barnes back in though.
I saw a rogue using this shadowstep trick against my Ragnaros, among other tricks and it looked amazing indeed..
I'm trying a similar deck but with N'Zoth and Barnes. Very cool
Was that Yesterday? It may have been me. I definitely remember Moat Lurker-ing a Ragnaros yesterday. I was just starting to hone the deck in at the point, so it probably would have been around rank 15-13. So far, I haven't seen anyone else doing this.
Yay! Moat Lurker is pretty awesome. Both for clearing opponent's minion or killing your own deathrattle minions and getting it back. :D Even works when your minion is at low health. Kill it and get it back with full health.
Works even better in N'Zoth deck. Was experimenting today with it, and:

Yep, if you Shadowstep him or use a Bloodthistle Toxin on him it completely negates the deathrattle.

Looks fun. Is Nzoth worth including over emperor? Or toomany weak bodied deathrattle?
I will almost certainly be putting N'Zoth back in (He was the original reason for building the deck... just like everybody else I built a deck around him on day one of WotoG). Right now I'm running two Moat Lurkers more so that I can get them every game and experiment with them. Two of may be a bit much though, and N'Zoth is the clear choice for a replacement.
Barnes is also really good (he does seem to love SI:7 agents though). He came out for Thaurissan (because you always have a full hand). If I were going to put him back in I would probably remove a Loot Hoarder... just not sure how that would play out against aggro. Loot Hoarder is really solid when you're desperate for early board.

Sounds pretty cool, will try this. With so many deathrattles I'll try to push nzoth into the deck, love him.
Fun to hear you've had success using this card in Deathrattle Rogue....I've had success with it in Evolve Shaman :)
I'm wondering where your N'Zoth is though?
A big upside would be to bring back several copies of Sylvanas/Cairne with N'Zoth after having used Moat Lurker on them :P

Trow in Barnes and N'zoth and you have a awesome deck :D
Looks legit - I have an Anub'arak that I think could be epic with Moat Lurker - it's worth experimentation
