Control Warlocks - we never left, and now we will rule them all!

With release of the new expansion our beloved Warlock got some really nice class cards. That, as well as a new recruit mechanic will create new opportunities for control decks nad hopefully elevate our currently tier 3 decks all the way to the top (tier1).

English is not my native language and it took me 3 hours to build this deck and write guide, so I hope you'll like it. So without further ado, I present to you my new control Warlock deck!

[Mulligan will be added after one week of K&K, for potential replacements ask in a comment section, I will try to answer all questions].

Winrate:

62% winrate proved by Hearthstone Deck Tracker (30+ games so far)

Edit. 1 Removed Cube for the time being. Also replaced Geist (because nobody runs Jade Druid right now) with Doomsayer and 1 Arcane Tyrant with 1 Reaver.

Gameplan

The point of this deck is to survive till turn 7 or 8, use Nether to clean the board and use Arcane Tyrant to gain board control after which you will play either Master Oakheart or Void Lord. At that point you are in prime position to win, both against Control and Aggro.

Deck have plenty of taunts and board removals, as well as healing cards to ensure that you'll get there in one piece without much of a life loss. Cards like librarian and Harrison Jones will help you with drawing cards, which for Warlock is not a problem anyway. Playing Guldan on turn 10 is not a must, since there are many way to stale the game. So if you didn't draw him, I wouldn't worry too much. Deck has also plenty of mid-range firepower to fight against other control decks.

Winning Conditions:

  1. Against aggro decks, getting to Guldan is something they can't come back from. Especially if you played Void Lord or Oakheart on turn 8 or 9. And you might actually take initiative on turn 7/8, when you can play Twisting Nether followed by Arcane Tyrant
  2. Against control, Medivh is your best bet. Arcane Tyrant with minions summoned by Siphon/Nether/Spellstone can put a lot of pressure on opponents.
  3. Fatigue is an option with this deck, unless we play mill deck of course. Guldans power paired with healing of cards (Spellstone, dark pact, siphon soul) can outlast most of other control decks.

Core

Master Oakheart - 9 mana 5/5 that recruit 3 minions: Tar Creeper or Tar LurkerVoidlord (3/9 with 3 x 1/3 deathrattle) and one of our 2 attack minions. Amazing value and great wall to build on turn 9 before Guldan, or even sometimes later in the game. This is where the game ends for Tempo Rogue, standard Hunter and even Zoolock. I would add Evolve Shaman to this list if not for devolve spell. You're still in a great spot at this point.

Bloodreaven Guldan - Core card of every control warlock deck, the strongest Warlock class card by far. Brings back all your dead demons and gives you 5 armor. Not enough? How about 3 damage lifesteal hero power? Yeah.

Voidlord - 3/9 Taunt demon with 3 x 1/3 deathrattle? Sign me in. Ideally you would recruit him by Oakheart, but it's good enough to be played by itself.

Medivh - amazing card against control decks, 7/7 body is nice but it's the Atiesh that makes it special. It have a great synergy with Twisting Nether and Siphon Soul. It can also work with Spellstone, hellfire and defile.

With addition of new Arcane Tyrant card, it allows you to clean the board and flood it with your own strong minions at the same time. Can swing games. Downside is that it's slow and weapon removal can destroy Atiesh, but overall, great value.

Rest of the deck

Spells:

Defile Great removal card, even without Bloodmage and Zealot that couldn't be included in this deck due to Oakheart-Tars synergy. It may be harder to set up, but still good.

Hellfire Staple of most control decks, remove aggro really well. Synergy with Spellstone

Siphon Soul Remove strong minions, synergy with Atiesh, Arcane Tyrant

Twisting Nether remove the board, synergy with Atiesh and Arcane Tyrant

Dark Pact kill one of your weaker minions or even void lord for 8 health. Amazing value, must have in every control warlock deck.

Lesser Amethyst Spellstone another removal card, costs 4 mana and can be upgraded (3->5->7). Lifesteal provides a lot of healing when upgraded.

Minions:

Vulgar Homunculus - 2 mana 2/4 Taunt demon, perfect early in the game. Can be brought back with Guldan, can be recruited by Master Oakheart.

Kobold Librarian - 1 mana 2/1, deals 2 damage (which upgrades Spellstone) and draws you a card. Perfect Warlock card, does not interfere with Oakheart-Tars synergy. Helps set up defile.

Mistress of Mixtures - great card to trade and heal early in the game

Tar Creeper and Tar Lurker - Taunts that help you early in the game and will get recruited by Master Oakheart. Can be play standalone (that's why I didn't include Tar Lord)

Harrison Jones - everybody runs their legendary weapons. We hate their legendary weapons. Destroy them with this and draw cards.

Skulking Geist - There are 3 thing that are certain in life: death, taxes and Jade Druid decks. This helps to fight one of the three.

Carnivorous Cube - 5 mana 4/6 is not bad by itself, and you can destroy Void Lord, to flood your board even more. Possible targets: Mistrees of mixturess, doomsayer and anything you would like to multiply. Also helps to set up twisting nether one turn before by hiding strong minion (and copying it) against opponent who may want to play around this card. Very, very strong card.  (replaced, might be included in the future)

Arcane Tyrant 5 mana 4/4 is not awful, but not great either. 4/4 for 0 mana is solid. Synergy with Siphon Soul and Twisting Nether.

Hooked Reaver 4 mana 4/4 demon, which is fine to play on 4th turn against priest. But it tough situation, it can be played as a 4 mana 7/7 taunt. And that's massive. The worse game goes for you, the better he becomes. Hopefully hero you deserve, but one you won't need.

Doomsayer Good to stale the game, I might add another one.

And that's it for now, if you have any suggestions or questions, please leave them in a comment. I will write a Mulligan soon. Thank you for reading, hope you liked it and have a nice day!
