Intro

Hello! My name is Ivona; I go by theoddone23. I am a multiple Legend Hearthstone player. I started playing Hearthstone in September 2015, and I first hit Legend in September 2016. Since then I have been entering Legend rank consistently, finishing in the top 1000 and reaching top 100 or top 200 throughout the month. My highest reached rank so far is #97, and I did it with Mid-Range Shaman. Since then, I have been a regular Legend player.

I am also a Hearthstone streamer; I stream multiple times per week with my colleague Zeronnix. You can find our stream on this link: https://www.twitch.tv/hswithtandz if you want to learn more about us and see what decks we play. Now, about this deck! The deck is a changed version of the old Reno Warlock - but since Warlock has gotten many heals in KFT, he is not needed anymore. The deck is pretty much played in the same way, but we need to be careful about taking damage, so we survive until playing the DK card. The deck is very viable in the meta and is able to survive vs aggro, and outlast control decks, which makes it a really good choice for laddering!

I've played around 50 games with the deck - the winrate I am posting here is ONLY from last night! (86%)

General Strategy vs Aggro

The general strategy is mostly to survive and use various ways of healing and making taunts, so you survive until playing the Hero card. Single targets spells and AoE both do a terrific job at this, regardless of the fact that there is no more Reno in Standard. This is all there is to it; specific cases depend on the class and general gameplay.

General Strategy vs Control

You are mostly going for value minions, high stats, efficient board clear and health exhaustion of your opponent. Try to play as many demons as possible and value your minions, so you are able to call them back with the Hero card and win the game. Stay very aware of the board clears, because it can be bad if you lose the board and are never able to come back. After you play the Hero card, don't be afraid to ping face with hero power - even classes that used to be very popular counter of Warlock are now struggling, for example Mage!

Card explanation!

I will explain why I added a few cards in the list and how to use them properly regardless of the matchup!

Mistress of Mixtures - early game vs aggro, late game vs control (especially after going Jaraxxus!)

Mortal Coil - great cycle, but remember: it can be used to set up Defile too, not just for card draw. Remember to calculate spell damage if present on board!

Voidwalker - great early game vs aggro; good after playing Hero card since you have the taunt!

Defile - an amazing new card, allows many ways of clearing the board. Make sure you calculate properly the amount of damage you are making, especially with spell damage present. Also, yes - sometimes it can be really cool to clear with Defile, but it is not always the best way - sometimes pure trading just turns out better for you, so make sure you consider that, too!

Dirty Rat - still a great combo breaker, goes well with opponent's Doomsayer and your own Twisting Nether, Siphon soul and Blastcrystal potion!

Doomsayer - use it on turn 2 vs aggro if possible, since on turn 3 they already can deal with it. When going Jaraxxus, use it to stabilize the board control and cross safely!

Drain Soul - also great with spell power. Remember: more damage = more healing!

Tainted Zealot - use it with Lifesteal effects or Defile - the divine shield allows it to clear a lot more!

Earthen Ring Farseer - not an early game card, not even vs aggro. You want more reactive things! Use it later! :)

Stonehill Defender - a great anti-aggro card, and very valuable in control matchups. Pick based on the situation, not the pure value!

Blastcrystal Potion - late turn removal, avoid it early in the game since it really breaks the curve!

Faceless Shambler amazing with the drake and giant, but there is no need for greed - a 4/5 is also decent, especially vs aggro!

Kazakus - very situational; there is no right way to do it. Think well about what you want to get from it, don't go too greedy with potions for late game that are hard to predict, unless you are making a specific counter!

Shadowflame - spell damage also applied to it; also you can trade with the minion first and then shadowflame it (a lot of people forget that).

Twilight Drake - great early game; if you have it, try to tap so it gets larger for turn 4, but don't go too far, especially vs aggro: a 4/6 dragon is also good!

Despicable Dreadlord - a great new card, especially vs Priest, and some aggro decks! It is a nice body to revive with your Hero.

Elise the Trailblazer - a great body for turn 5, and one of the many win conditions vs control decks in late game. Make sure you don't overdraw while opening the pack - best use is after going DK, when you stop tapping for cards!

Kabal Trafficker - an amazing card that gives so much value, especially after some important removals are spent by turn 6, 7, 8... Try to keep it alive and make sure you don't overdraw with the demons! :) Also, remember: this is NOT a demon and will not come back with the Hero card (a lot of people forget that also)

Skulking Geist - enables a far better matchup vs Evolve Shaman, Jade Druid etc. Play it even if your Mortal Coil has not been played yet - it's worth it!

The Lich King - amazing body and value; mostly they are out of removals by the time you play it. Watch out for the overdraw!! :)

Twisting Nether - still a great removal, especially after Jaraxxus is played, since you can slam a 6/6 after it. Time it well and you will be rewarded!

Lord Jaraxxus - still a great card to play, especially in a Control meta. It is best to play it before the DK Hero card, since you can call back the Infernals as a battlecry! Also you will still have the weapon after you go from Jaraxxus to Gul'Dan, and you get armor too! Try to plan the stabilization, and do not miss the hero power unless you have to. Be careful with health and try to heal with the healing cards in this stage!

Bloodreaver Gul'dan - the very card that deck revolves around. Play as many demons as possible before it, and don't go afraid to go DK early, even without Jaraxxus - especially vs Mage etc. where you need the damage to both heal and deal damage to the face! Avoid trading with minions - use the ping instead. Go for minions rather than hero power if the opponent has more cards - there is time for hero power later, and board control is quite important!

Mountain Giant - great early game, especially vs control!
