Nothing feels better than beating pirate cancer :)
This deck is pretty good in current meta, with a decent winning rate against pirate warriors and a dominating advantage against many other decks. This deck requires a lot of skills to play. Practice to get a feel of it under different situations.
Other card choices:
Kabal Courier,Baron Rivendare,Defender of Argus,Anima Golem,Earthen Ring Farseer,DeathlordAbyssal Enforcer, Sideshow Spelleater,Shadowflame.
Mulligan
There are generally 3 types of matchups:
1. aggro
The only goal is to survive. You almost auto-win if your opponent can't kill you in the first few turns. Having Reno greatly increase your chance of winning, but you also need a dreadsteed to activate Reno. Token druid and zoo are not fast enough as you have many board clearance. For mulligan you should be looking for aoe, heal, taunt, low-cost spells/creatures, Reno and one dreadsteed.
2. OTK
This is a speed race. Your goal is to: 1. keep yourself very healthy 2. lower your opponent's health and prepare for lethal as early as possible. For mulligan you should keep dreadsteed, umbra, bronzebeard, Kazakus(for direct damage and armor), dirty rat(to sabotage OTK component), Mal'ganis, power overwhelming.
3. Mid/Late non-OTK decks.
This is the most favorable matchup. You should be dominating most games against non-pirate warriors and druid, as they don't have good answers to dreadsteed. Go directly for your winning conditions: dreadsteed, umbra. You may keep some removal and heal as you see fit. If you are facing priest or shaman, you might want to think twice about playing dreadsteed directly as they can get hexed/devoluted/mind-controled. Try to lure out your opponent's removals and wait for the dreadsteed/umbra combo. Also, mulligan against priest you may want to keep sacrificial pact and Jaraxxus. Think twice before playing dirty rat against priest as they might OTK you with it.
Just wanted to ask, what is your take on Mistress of Mixtures vs. Zombie Chow? I usually prefer the extra 1 health that Zombie Chow has, but the heal on Mistress of Mixtures can make it a better late game draw. I have found Dreadsteed decks to be seriously powerful since the introduction of Umbra, and congrats on getting a mention in the VS Report.
How many dreadsteeds should I fill my board with? 5 or 6?
What about Voidcaller? it has synergy with Mal'Ganis and Spiritsinger Umbra
Hey, i;ve got a few questions,
1) Would Elise the Trailblazer be a good idea in this deck? (I don't see loads of use for Spellbreaker sometimes).
2) Also how about Ravenous Pterrordax for Dreadsteedsynergy?
3) Would cards like Kabal Trafficker, Emperor Thaurissan, Sneed's Old Shredder and Mountain Giant play a good part in this deck?
4) How is Explosive Sheep working for you? Im currently running N'zoth and im debating if the card is worth running as it may be counterintuitive.
5) Finally, which is usually better in the late game, N'zoth, the Corrupter or Kel'Thuzad? Im debating if Kel'Thuzad is worth recrafting (probably is but idk).
Thanks in advance.
I ditched the second dreadsteed and kelthuzad and subbed n'zoth + voidcaller I feel like overall this is faster because voidcaller can pull malganis vs pirates - autowin against a big portion of the meta. I have a 100% winrate vs pirates after 1 game with that change.
also I feel like a dreadsteed army is slow and underpowered - not much here to push a significant amount of damage from the steeds and you can clutter your board vs control and not be able to play a legit big minion like malganis with 7 steeds.
Voidcaller is indeed a good card against aggro. However I personally prefer reliability over aggro, as pulling out Mal'Ganis or Dreadsteed in unwanted situations would put you into a unfavored situation against priest/shaman/control decks. You will lose your winning conditions/lethal.
Also, never play 7 steeds.
i prefer [card]Kel'Thuzad[/card] over [card]N'Zoth, the Corruptor[/card], but it's fine if it works for you.
Could you explain the mulligans for different match ups? Which match ups would you keep dreadsteed in opening hand?
What do you think about replacing explosive sheep for shadow bolt in order to deal with frothing berserkers, totem golem, etc?
Also, do you think deck could still function well vs control decks with just 1 dreadsteed?
Thx man for deck so far rank 4 to 3 15-7,I only change one dreadsteed for ragnaros, because to trigger reno.
Rank 2 now :D
You may call me stupid, but I just spent 2,500 dust to craft this deck. I played one game and pulled the combo off on turn 5 (dreadsteed turn 4 + umbra turn 5). That was the most fun I've ever had in Hearthstone. Thank you for making this deck.
And how did you only encounter a single rogue? I have seen 4 rogues in 8 games, and those are my only losses.
I guess meta is different for different ranks. I haven't seen any rogue after rank 5.
very intriguing deck. could you explain what is the point of kel'thuzad?
edit: oh nvm sacrifical pact and PO lol.
Keep in mind that this is a combo deck. A combo only works if you have all the components. That's why there are 2 Dreadsteed to increase your chance of drawing it. While Spiritsinger Umbra can give you 6 ponies immediately, Kel'Thuzad gives you a second way to amass your might pony army with Sacrificial Pact and Mortal Coil. I always keep a second combo at hand in case the ponies get mass sheeped or devolved.
In addition, Kel'Thuzad can sometimes combo with Sylvanas Windrunner, taunt minions like Dirty Rat and Sludge Belcher, and even Mal'Ganis.
Thx for the reply. At first I felt uneasy not seeing what was considered to be staple cards in renolock like Abyssal Enforcer, Shadowflame, Twilight drake, imp gang boss, etc but it does make sense once I thought about it.
Good job for coming up with a creative list. I will definitely try this out.
Haha, look who just lost a game
I get the 2 Dreadsteed, but I feel like 2 Refreshment Vendors is too much. You run both reno cards, and you already run a single dupe. Because of your hero power, you can dig for a single dupe, but unless its essential to the deck (like dread steed), I wouldn't run it anymore.
It's actually a typo. Should be Blastcrystal Potion
