The strategy doesn't line up sometimes, but honestly I've had the easiest / less stressful time fighting Slitherspear with this deck.
Hi guys, Konf here.
So far Heroic Slitherspear proved to be the most annoying boss to beat (to me, at least) and I struggled for a bit. As I was miserably failing with Paladin, I noticed at some point that Slitherspear can easily fill his board by turn 4 or 5, with most creatures being 2/2's or Hungry Nagas out of his Hero Power. And that’s where the idea for this deck came to my head, as I thought to abuse that fact.
Game Strategy:
1) Play your Lightwell / card draw;
2) Let Slitherspear fill out his side of the board;
3) Mass Dispel most of the damage off the board, leaving a few legitimate creatures (by "legitimate creatures" I'm referring to minions that have 3+ attack after dispel);
4) When the board is full – manipulate its state by killing legitimate creatures with Shadow Word: Death or Holy Fire;
5) Slitherspear plays 7th creature through his Hero Power, which you can Silence / Mass Dispel to being a 1/1;
6) At this point there isn't much pressure on the board and with Lightwell, your Hero Power and Power Word: Glory you can easily out-sustain all of the damage;
7) Play filler cards to keep your hand empty while waiting for combo pieces. Filler cards include Mind Blast, Holy Fire, Power Word: Shield;
8) Finish him off with a Lightwell burst, buffing it with Velen's Chosen, Divine Spirit x 2 and Inner Fire.
Important Notes:
- Beware of playing creatures on the board after Mass Dispel, as you don’t want him to trade and play more legitimate creatures;
- Sea Reaver draw can ruin this strategy (as it kills all 1/1’s), but in my case his hand got full so quickly that he actually burnt them, so it wasn't much of a threat. Just watch out.
- Don't play Velen's Chosen on your Lightwell until you have the burst combo, as you don't want him to trade and play more threats.
Enjoy!
Finally got it third try, even with him drawing into Sea Reaver on a board of 5 1/1s. You feel like you're actually trying to get somewhere with this deck, rather than just sporadically SMOrc'ing every turn with the paladin heroic decks.
Cheers for the decklist, OP.
