Used this deck over the last week to push from Rank 3 to Legend! I'll answer any and all questions below in the comments.
This deck is NOT unique (aside from Misdirection), but it IS VERY EFFECTIVE IN THE CURRENT META!
This deck only hits face. The only time it doesn't (that I can currently think of), would be to make a good trade on a Knife Juggler against aggro pally or hunter, a good trade on a Mana Wyrm or Flamewaker against tempo mage (this is rare -- you normally attack face), or to kill an Armorsmith if you aren't able to silence it.
The trick to this deck (and face hunter in general): Steady Shot (Hero Power) EVERY turn that you can while keeping your mana curve! EXAMPLE: On turn 3 you have the option to play Animal Companion, but you have a Leper Gnome in hand -- you should play the gnome and hero power!! Always hero power! Conserve cards!
General Mulligan / Tips:
- Don't be greedy. Keep 1-2 mana CREATURES.
- Do NOT keep traps/secrets.
- Do NOT keep Animal Companion EVER!
- Only keep Abusive Sergeant if:
- You have other creatures to play
- You are going first and you have no other
- You know what you're doing (hard to explain. Give me an example and I could answer yes/no)
- Only keep Glaivezooka if you have a turn 1/2 play and you can GUARANTEE that your minion will stay alive to benefit from it!
- Example of when to keep it: You have a 1 mana creature and you are playing against priest (in which case you can trade against Northshire Cleric).
- Example of when not to keep it: You have a Leper Gnome and a Worgen Infiltrator and you are playing against Mage (Arcane Missiles)
- Assuming you have a choice, always put down Explosive Trap, THEN Misdirection. This ensures that Misdirection doesn't trigger on something with <=2hp -- the creature would die to explosive before attack in that case.
- It will take you awhile to learn the best times to use Misdirection. The easiest and most obvious use it to play it when your opponent has one creature on the board and you have none.
- Example: Warrior has a 5/3 Frothing Berserker on the board. I play Misdirection, hero power, and pass turn. Warrior deals 5 to himself with the Berserker, KILLING THE BERSERKER TOO IF HE HAS A WEAPON EQUIPPED!
Class-specific Mulligans / Tips:
Warrior: Keep Ironbeak Owl if you have another turn 1 play. Silence Armorsmith if you can't kill it with one card ([card]Abusive Sergeant[/card] + something). Use on Sludge Belcher too.
Mage: Gotta go fast. Minions > spells. You want to keep him hero powering your 1 health creatures for as long as possible so he has less time to play stuff that will snowball and kill us.
Priest: If you can, kill Northshire Cleric. Either gnome/worgen + Glaivezooka, or coin out a Knife Juggler to trade with it. I wouldn't waste Quick Shot on it. If you can't kill it right away, don't bother.
Hunter: It's partially hand dependent, but also make sure you are playing smart. Silence a Mad Scientist or Haunted Creeper (this card is normally only played by Midrange Hunter now). Save for the Juggler + Hounds combo if you can. Try to make a smart play with a trap in your hand if you have one. Don't trade unless you are killing a Knife Juggler for the most part.
Warlock: KeepingIronbeak Owl can be good. It's effective against both Zoo (Haunted Creeper / Nerubian Egg / Defender of Argus taunts) and Handlock (anything with taunt). You should be able to overwhelm and win.
Substitutions: I wouldn't put in Leeroy. It's just too expensive. We want to play something and hero power every turn. That doesn't really work with a 5 mana creature. If you don't have a certain card, maybe sub in a Haunted Creeper or Arcane Shot. Another good choice would be Hunter's Mark.
Yes it's Face Hunter. Yes the games are fast. No, it's not always easy. You still have to think, I promise.
Lol, posting random garbage wannabe face hunter decks. This deck is so obviously trash.
this deck sucks
Yep, 0-5
I just wanna say this deck is awesome for me because it's strong and cheap. Thank you for this deck man :D
I'm curious, what's fun about playing such decks? Is it some messed up sadistic pleasure of annoying the hell out of your helpless opponent? Or the fun is not a factor, and the deck's only purpose is to get some fast gold / get to legend for metaphysical penis enlargement?
It's an effective way to climb up the early ranks on ladder. Once you get to the higher single digit ranks you'll start to see that people have face hunter pretty much figured out. It's an aggro deck just like any other, and you shouldn't judge people foe playing it.
This can be a pretty complex and game-specific answer. It depends on if we're playing against Priest or Druid/Paladin or something else. For the most part, assuming you have the coin, you want to try and play a mad scientist, worgen (+ future abusive or glaivezooka), or try to coin out animal companion turn 2. No real secrets. Ignore it if you can't get a clean kill on it!
SMOrc FACE IS THE PLACE SMOrc
What could replace Quick Shot? I'm planning to buy BRM but for now...? Thanks.
Arcane Shot would probably be your best bet. Get that quick shot!
So this is the first Facehunter deck I've tried, and I'm really enjoying it so far - thanks!
As a Facehunter n00b though, I have a question: for Turn 2, do you normally opt to play something like Mad Scientist, or do you just Hero Power? Some scenarios seem more obvious to me (like Glaivezooka with a minion out), but other times I'm not so sure.
I know this is something I'll probably learn from just playing the deck more, and maybe I could find a good stream to watch, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask here since I'm playing this specific deck.
BTW, I really like the Misdirection dynamic, although the card proc of Hunter secrets really throws me at times!
In this example I would play the Mad Scientist instead of Hero Power. As a general rule of thumb we want to get creatures out consistently so our opponent is spending time trying to clear the board instead of spending time dealing damage to us. Turns 1 and 2 I try to always play a creature if I can, then in a perfect world I'm always playing a card (creature, weapon, spell, whatever) and hero powering every turn after turn 2.
I tend to look at this situation like this:
if I have a card that I feel can be more valuable later, I'll use hero power t2. I'm not dumping and owl just to fill the board and the biggest problem with face hunter is running out of steam turns 8-10. The more cards you have and hold onto, the longer you can keep the momentum going.
Could Leeroy Jenkins be put in for Arcane Golem or does Leeroy cost to much mana?
"Substitutions: I wouldn't put in Leeroy. It's just too expensive. We want to play something and hero power every turn. That doesn't really work with a 5 mana creature. If you don't have a certain card, maybe put sub in a Haunted Creeper."
:D
Misdirection is so much fun and I never considered it with a face hunter deck. Thanks!
"On turn 3 you have the option to play Animal Companion, but you have a Leper Gnome in hand -- you should play the gnome and hero power!!" Really? Not to play Animal Companion on turn 3?
Correct! Hero power is how you win the game! It's counter-intuitive and something a lot of face hunter players do wrong.
replaces for Quick Shot ?
