UPDATE: Decklist updated to most consistent Win Deck
INTRO:
Freeze Mage is one of the more interesting decks you can play in Hearthstone, and yet one of the oldest that is still a competitive deck today. the deck is all about stalling your opponent long enough until you have a hand full of powerful burn spells and attack face.
One thing to realize is this deck is Reactive, what I mean by that is Your opponent plays something we react to it. remember there's no need to play a card unless you desperately need too.
This Deck relies on A Combination of spells, I refer to this as Your "Win Conditions".
With the addition of a new card Emperor Thaurissan this opens up a whole new tier of potential "Win Conditions" For Example If in hand we have Pyroblast x1 - Frostbolt x1 - Ice Lance x2 , If we Play the Emperor the turn before It will reduce the cost of our spells by (1) Allowing us to ultimately deal 21 Damage next turn! As a Freeze Mage we will generally always have a full hand!
Mulligans:
These three card are great for the early game curve.
Then you will want Your "Stall Cards"
Stall Cards:
For removal feel free to use a
But I will Always keep Frostbolt x1 andIce Lance x2 as one of our "Win Conditions"
During the approach of turn 10 we can start to prepare our next few turns, this will depend on your roughly estimating how many turns you will survive for, what "Win Condition Spells" we have in our hand and ultimately figuring out if we have the win. Of course we take into Account Heal-bots, Lay on Hands and other heals, But there's only so much damage we can Deal until we have no more.
When we are about to go for the win there are heaps of Combos to take the win.
Alexstrasza Combo Example:
into
1x 2x 1x
Malygos + Emperor Thaurissan Combo Example:
Play this card to lower cost of any card in hand!
Malygos reduced to 8 cost with our damage spells will allow us to benefit from its ability straight away which will be a game changer !
add +5 damage to all spells you play We could have a potential 30+ Damage easy ! Look out warriors!!
Before playing Emperor Thaurissan
Take Note the Combo Below is in hand.
into 1x 2x
After playing Emperor Thaurissan
Now on my next turn I was able to Play Malygos for 8 mana Frostbolt for 1 mana and 2x Ice Lance for free for a total damage of 26*
Doomsayer How to's
+ Doomsayer on empty board is fine.
We have a few options when playing Doomsayer firstly we can play on a empty board or even combo with Frost Nova. The beauty of this card is it baits or a removal or silence.
It forces your opponent to try and remove him or delays him playing minions for a turn!
Kezan the snitch!
Kezan Mystic Playing around Kezan is a chore, if they steal your Ice Block It puts a needle into our balloon. A way to play around Kezan if you find it to be current in your meta is running one yourself, and you can steal it back, if not then you will have a long hard road ahead.
Matchups:
Control Warrior (20/80) - This matchup was not winnable before Emperor Thaurissan became a card. It is still not a good matchup but it is certainly winnable. The key to the matchup is using Emperor Thaurissan to discount at least three of the following cards: Frostbolt, Ice Lance and Archmage Antonidas. You need to discount these cards to be able to generate as many Fireballs as possible.
Midrange Shaman (70/30) - Midrange Shaman tends to focus on the development of a board and from there tries to grind other classes out of the game via board advantage. Thankfully for a Freeze Mage player, we have no interest in fighting for board control. The Freeze Mage player should just look to stall out the game long enough to find Alexstrasza or enough burn spells to close out the game. The most healing to be expected from Midrange Shaman is a single Healbot meaning if you have damage centric hand you can also burn out your opponent without even needing Alexstrasza.
Mech Shaman (60/40) - This is a scary matchup. There is a lot of aggression, a lot of burst and there is Ragnoros. The saving grace for Freeze Mage is that Doomsayer reliably goes off in this matchup as usually only one Earth Shock is played and no Hex. Once Fel Reaver hits the table, it should be the objective of the Freeze Mage player to run the Shaman out of cards aggressively using his burn spells on minions and taking this matchup to fatigue.
Rogue (70/30) - This matchup is very similar to the Patron Warrior matchup and much easier. The fatigue game plan is the best bet to winning this matchup making Antique Healbot one of the best cards in the matchup. One of the keys to the matchup is identifying how to allocate stall spells to prevent strong Tinker’s Sharpsword Oil turns. Using burn spells on minions is completely acceptable. Due to Rogue’s ease with dealing with Doomsayer, the best time to play it is early. Playing a Doomsayer into a turn 3 SI:7 Agent is good use.
Paladin (70/30) - What was said for Midrange Shaman is effectively the same as against current Paladin decks however Paladin play a few extra heals meaning burnout strategies do not apply. Alexstrasza must come down first in this matchup.
Face Hunter (70/30) - Hero power is your best friend. The game plan is to reduce the most amount of damage in the early game and run the Hunter out of cards. Early Ice Barriers are very important as when low in health, a Face Hunter does not need to ever trigger the Ice Barrier and 8 health will be forgone forever.
Midrange Hunter (60/40) - Highmane and Shredder are difficult cards for Freeze Mage to deal with however Freeze Mage can reliably execute the basic game plan of Alexstrasza on the opponent’s face in this matchup. Using Doomsayers and Archmage Antonidas as heals for 7 is often a key to winning this matchup.
Druid (30/70) - Druid may actually be the hardest matchup for Freeze Mage to handle. The key to winning the matchup is to successfully get a Doomsayer to clear their board which is out of the Freeze Mage player’s control as Keeper of the Grove shuts that down. Try to stall until Alexstrasza and win the game that way however once one Ancient of Lore is gone a pre-Alexstrasza burnout strategy is often a good one versus Druid.
Handlock (60/40) - The key to beating Handlock is to bait a Healbot before your Alexstrasza. Early damage pushed by Loot Hoarder and Mad Scientist should be able to force a heal from Handlock before Alexstrasza. Just remember to play around the Jaraxxus heal to 15 by using your burn spells accordingly.
Zoo (70/30) - Between Flame Imps and life tap, Zoo usually puts itself at a low health total to the extent that Alexstrasza is rarely needed. Just remember to play around Mal”Ganis and you should have an easy time handling Zoo.
Tempo Mage/Mech Mage (60/40) - Doomsayer is the hardest counter to Mirror Entity in the entire game. This trick alongside your other board clears is your key to dragging out the game until Alexstrasza.
Freeze Mage (50/50) - The key to winning the mirror is to pop your opponent’s Ice Block first.
Priest (90/10) - You have all the time in the world because Priest is not aggressive or bursty. The basic game plan of Alex on your opponent is almost a certain win. Current Priest decks are unfit to deal with Doomsayer making the matchup a near certain win.

I will Finish and improve this Guide soon as work is consuming thank you !
What about dity rat? It can be good vs renolock, or control warrior. Or meta is too agressive?
Would Ysera be a good substitute for Alexstrasza or Malygos. Also do you think Netherspite Historian and Faerie Dragon or Azure Drake be good substitutes for certain cards that I am missing. I almost always get Alexstrasza or Malygos with Netherspite Historian
Not really no, I know its a pain but Alex is mandatory in this deck, not meaning you need her to win, but you almost always will use her.
Azure drake is a great card, in terms of value so you can use it.
What cards are you missing atm? Give me your decklist and I can tell you what you need first.
If you can build Alex your over halfway there :)
damn because I just crafted Ysera for my Priest deck last night I have seen her work well in both Priest and Mage decks(I want to learn how to play mage-getting bored of Priest right now) ummmm atm I am missing Bloodmage Thalnos, Forgotten Torch, Doomsayer, Kezan Mystic, and Alexstrasza.
Atm I can craft the Kezan Mystic and both Forgotten Torch or should I save up for Alexstrasza?
Ahh okay, first focus on Saving for alex, at this point dont worry about Kezan or torch.
Go this , Alex, Bloodmage, Torch. then whatever cards are left.
currently rank 4
nice!!!
what is the meta like in wild? can u actually climb with it?
I've just started playing after 2 years off, currently at rank 10. alot has to do with me learning all the new cards and decks. but its still viable.
IMO I think both standard and wild is really Aggro style meta
Please, Update the decklist.
Is there a substitute for ice block or pyroblast? I don't want to craft these because I'm not entirely sure I will like it, and I want dust for crafting in WotOG...
Not really... Ice block saves you from dying in the vast majority of games. Pyroblast is usually a tech substitute for Antinidous so you could probably replace it with something. I really want to say that there are substitutes, but there just aren't. I suppose you could play a large number of heal effects or Reno, but you really need Thaurissan, Ice Block, Alexstraza/Malygos or both, and the burn spells.
I suggest that you don't craft the deck until a few weeks after expansion unless you plan to play entirely in Wild. While it is unlikely to lose all that much effectivity, it is simply impossible to know how the deck will be after that point.
Why is there an Explosive Sheep? Is it to trigger Hoarder and Aco?
alextraza is the best card for this deck un-replaceable
Ragnaros is probably the closest card to a replacement to Alexstrasza... That doesn't mean it's a good replacement, craft Alexstrasza ASAP if you want to make this deck
That stupid legend list even don't have loot hoarders still the picture is recommending to keep it in your hand lool….
I was wondering if freeze mage would still be viable in the new Standard mode. What are your thoughts? And if it is still viable what changes would you make to the current deck?
what about jeweled scarab? might give u a chacne to discover an extra iceblock
Or a third Torch or Frostbolt, gg!
because this is a guide that covers different alternatives to the freeze mage build
