Match-ups:
Mech Mage:
Mulligan for Hellfire, Imp-losion Twilight Drake, Mountain Giant and early removal spells.
This is the decks easiest match-up, I have been up against mech mage 37 times with this and only lost once to Unstable Portal into King Krush
Stratergy:
Remove mechs as much as you can with early removal to force them into clunky Goblin Blastmage and Tinkertown Technician plays. You really want to:
turn 2 draw a card
turn 3 draw card
turn 4 Mountain Giant or Twilight Drake (unless there is more efficient play removing his mechs of-course)
When they over-extend a bit clear the board, otherwise keep chipping away at everything they play!
Watch your health and be-ware of double Fireball to face. Try and lure spells out on your giants so once they lose tempo you are not at risk of them ignoring minions and going face. Once you have board advantage just drop Mal'Ganis or pull him out using a Voidcaller Shadowflame combo (as most mechs are not more than 3 health) This will seal the game as they can no longer ignore everything and spell your face to finish you the turn before you kill them with big threats, he is the closest thing to a spell taunt that we have and he completely shuts down the mech mage stratergy for handlock.
Other match-ups coming soon...
Card Choices & Subs:
Imp-losion: removal plus pressure (careful when facing hunter unleash the hounds etc.)
Big Game Hunter: 'cos Dr. Boom exists.
Voidcaller: Get Mal'Ganis out the same turn you play Lord Jaraxxus is the dream, but he works well in an array of combinations.
Sylvanas Windrunner: Strong 6 drop, can make for a very awkward response from aggro decks with a full board of minions.
Loatheb: slow down spells, prevent removal etc.
Other consideration: The Black Knight
Mal'Ganis: Strong against decks that use face spells to push for lethal, He can save you that turn needed to punish them for ignoring your board and going full face. Sometimes a win more card in certain match-ups but definitely worth using in this meta full of mech-mage and aggro face decks.
Could do :)
Sylvanas + Shadowflame is SOOO underrated.
I agree, nothing more satisfying than clearing the board and stealing the remaining big threat too!
Reached rank 2 from rank 15 with this deck alone!! Swapped out the black knight for baron geddon at rank 5 :)
wow congrats, baron is an interesting choice, doesn't him constantly eating your health total hurt?
I think if Baron is on the board long enough to actually do a lot of damage to you, you're going to win the game.
I guess you're right, I just figure they would stall the game and leave him to kill you turn by turn making taps more risky.
Thanks!
Have you considered to change the ancient watchers with ogre brutes? I know that they cost one mana more but they can attack the next turn and have the same purpose with shadowflame. I have been using them and for me its better.
I did try this, but the value of watchers to block early aggression and to cheaply combo with shadowflame is just to good to replace with brutes in this deck.
this works surprisingly well! I subbed tbk with loatheb cos I don't have it
I'm glad it's working for you :)
Hope it does well for you, gold 'Ganis is awesome.
Destroys Control warrior and about 50/50 with control druid.
Control priest is a matter of getting Jaraxxus out and winning outright since they can't deal with him efficiently.
Its worst matchups are probably Pali and Shaman, but they are still winnable.
