[Legend #4] - Shudderwock Shaman Guide
"My jaws that bite, my claws that catch!"
I hit #9 on EU and #4 on Asia, you can watch the VODs if you want (https://www.twitch.tv/zanananan/videos/all).
kiwiinbacon made a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtuuwhzebLY).
I'm Zananananan (https://twitter.com/Zanananan), the only professional Hearthstone player who has a song about his name. I'm playing for https://www.barrageesports.com/.
I offer coachings for 40,00 €/hour. If you are interested, please leave me a message on Skype (flo.marschner@gmail.com) or Twitter. (2nd hour 30 €, 3rd hour 20 €)
1. General Gameplan
Most of the game is spent trying to outlive the opponent's pressure while drawing cards and trying to find and play combo pieces (Lifedrinker, Saronite Chain Gang and Grumble, Worldshaker).
2. Mulligan Guide
- Prince Keleseth is obviously always a keep
- You want Volcano against Aggro and Warlock, Hex is also good against Warlock
- Lightning Storm and Mind Control Tech are good against Paladin or board flood decks in general
- Mana Tide Totem is super good against Control, Acolyte of Pain is fine too
- Grumble, Worldshaker and Shudderwock are good keeps against Control
3. Card Selection
A few people are playing Wild Pyromancer and Murmuring Elemental instead of Prince Keleseth. You can guarantee the combo with Murmuring Elemental and Wild Pyromancer is better against Paladin. But I still think that Prince Keleseth is much better, stats say the same. I'll show you later how likely it is to succeed the combo without Murmuring Elemental. You can also beat some decks on board, a 3/4 Saronite Chain Gang is pretty good.
A lot of people are playing Hemet, Jungle Hunter, I'm playing Sandbinder instead. I hate Hemet, Jungle Hunter, it's only good in the mirror and Recruit Hunter. You don't even want to play it against Control, it destroys Zola the Gorgon and you can never play it against Aggro.
The Black Knight is probably the most interesting card, https://twitter.com/Zyrios7 told me about it. I think it's super good in this meta. It's obviously great against Taunt Druid but it also shines against Warlock, they play Hooked Reaver, Sunfury Protector and The Lich King.
Earth Shock and Unstable Evolution are interesting cards too. You can cut Lightning Bolt or The Black Knight for it.
4. Combo
Shudderwock has always a chance to fail. You should maximize the odds of succeeding if you like winning. Some of the core elements of the Battlecry combo are Lifedrinker, Saronite Chain Gang, and Grumble, Worldshaker. With those aforementioned Battlecries, Shudderwock will make copies of itself, return to your hand and cost only 1 mana and deal 3 damage to the enemy hero. The order is random.
It's basic math. Let's say you've played 2 Saronite Chain Gang and 1 Grumble, Worldshaker. You only get infinite Shudderwock if a Saronite Chain Gang triggers first, so it's 2/3 to win the game. 2/3 doesn't sounds optimal. You can Grumble, Worldshaker a Saronite Chain Gang to make it 4/5. You can save a Saronite Chain Gang for Zola the Gorgon too. The chance of succes is 20/21 then.
But you can also save Zola the Gorgon for Grumble, Worldshaker. It's 59/60 if you've played 2 Saronite Chain Gang, so that's a lot better if you have the freedom.
5. Tips
You can play Shudderwock without all combo pieces. It's a Frost Nova without Lifedrinker. You can get infinite Shudderwock with Zola the Gorgon too. Sandbinder draws Grumble, Worldshaker.
You can combine Acolyte of Pain with Volcano.
Even Shaman
even - Volcano is really important.
Keep Sea Giant in mind. You only lose if you can't deal with an early Flametongue Totem or Corpsetaker. It's pretty straightforward, try to outvalue them. The Black Knight shines again against Corpsetaker and The Lich King.
Shudderwock Shaman
even - An unanswered Mana Tide Totem can win the game. You also keep Grumble, Worldshaker and Shudderwock.
Whoever plays Shudderwock with all combo pieces first wins. Save Acolyte of Pain for Volcano if you can to play around Hex. They can't play Shudderwock if they have a lot of cards in hand and some minions on board. You shouldn't Hero Power if you are close to Shudderwock for the same reason.
Quest Warrior
heavily favored - Mana Tide Totem, Acolyte of Pain, Grumble, Worldshaker, Shudderwock
You have a lot time because of Healing Rain and your Hero Power. Never play Hagatha the Witch.
Odd Warrior
heavily favored - Mana Tide Totem, Acolyte of Pain
It almost doesn't matter what you do. You only lose if Shudderwock fails, that's 1/60.
Cancer deck! This card must be banned. Even more in wild it s imposible to win.
1)scape
2)surrender
not sure if anyone ask about how to mulligan and beat zoolock and evenlock yet
Baleful Banker
Mulligan against odd rogue?
i love farming noobs who play this deck, thanks for the guide :)
This is similat to the classic shudder version all play now exept to the joker change black night (which is realy nice). Wondering a bit about the deck. I did beat it (or standard version) with my shudder deck 3 out of 4 of my last matches and i only realy seem to struggle with evenlock. One oponent lost due to playing hagatha ... I use runespear at the moment and it won me a lot of matches ... While i love it i accepted it beeing not good with it´s 8 mana costs i got surprised trying it again. Replacing it with hagatha is a good option but my deck sometimes needs the totem creation. so maybe i try black knight too.
The deck focuses on a lot of card draw while i have more defence/offence creatures and two late game card drawers. While the classic shudder deck has no preassure i win 50% of the games without shudder. Depending on what i play a T9 shudder (just one chain gang and a corpestaker before) is deadly and i use keleseth extensiveley. Using the totems, double healing rain and acolyte is very passive and can be overrun easier. But i guess it´s aproved to be powerful ^^. My only drawback is that i don´t get grumble reliably early which is strong.
Never would have thought about The Black Knight but it's such a good idea! This is probably the best version of shudderwock shaman there will ever be
I dont think Ooze is a very good card in this deck because in the current meta there is not many classes which use weapons, so I cant understand a card slot just for that. Can I be wrong? Of course, what do you guys think? In my opinion, ooze could be best replaced with unstable evolution or geist, for taunt druids.
Ooze could help you against cubelock, odd pally, tempo mage, togwaggle druid, odd warrior, odd rogue. Geist could help you only against taunt druid and cubelock, and for taunt druid you favored even without geist.
I aint sure but I usually dont see most of the decks you listed, and also, geist is very useful against odd rogue, because it takes off cold blood and the +2 weapon damage. Cubelock, odd warrior, odd pally? In my opinion the only few weapon worth to be destroyed are Aluneth and Sulfuras. Of course, I might be wrong.
What would a wild version of this deck look like?
Jade with Loetheb is absolutely nuts in wild shudderwock
Replacements for The Black Knight and Gluttonous Ooze?
I'd go for Earth Shock and Acidic Swamp Ooze
Any replacement for keleseth? I feel that he's not needed as much
I like Baleful Banker.
I like Skulking Geist I know it's only amazing in Warlock and Taunt druid match ups, but it's also decent against Odd Rogue/Miracle Rogue with the poison dagger and cold blood. Also decent against deathrattle hunter.

You can't, admin declared that deleting comments messed up with something in the forum (don't know how/why).
