April 2016 Card Nerf
It was announced on April 20th, 2016 that Big Game Hunter would receive a nerf.
- Mana cost increased to 5, up from 3.
Quote from BlizzardBig Game Hunter represents an inexpensive source of removal that is packaged with a minion. It’s efficient enough that some Heroes with powerful Class-based removal cards choose to run the neutral Big Game Hunter. We’re increasing the cost of the card from 3 mana to 5 mana.
No one played this on turn 3. People play +7 attack minions usually on turn 6-10 so this still works.
Yea man but now its not too cost effective!
It was ridiculous at 3 mana..
But now lets say you play a Dr.Boom paying 7 mana, your opponent has to spend 5 mana to kill dr boom, which will take almost his whole turn. Of course if you use it against a Ragnaros or something more expensive the bgh will be more efficient.
But as you will see, this nerf will promote a lot more class cards removal usage like Hex , Polymorph, Assassinate(Maybe), maybe even Mulch ,who knows
The problem with BGH was that you could remove a big minion that your opponent spent the whole turn playing him, and then play a minion of your own too, now its gonna be way harder to do it and less tempo loss.
Maybe they could at least do that like 8 mana and high stats
New flavor text should read:
"...Still got the beast in his sights."
Card after the WOTOG nerf. I reckon this is still playable, just slower and less flexible on curve than before (and on a side note it now can't be obtained through Jeweled Scarab either)
Just pulled my second golden version! Bring on the nerf!
lucky bastard :P
How to nerf Big Game Hunter:
Incoming nerfed version
That card text sounds like a memey type of card, but is actually a pretty hard (and probably good) nerf.
With how Hearthstone makes and nefts cards, I can somewhat guess how the nerf will look like:
Battlecry: Targeted minion with an Attack of 7 or more gets damaged for 4.
Not sure how to word it, but I think this is a big nerf (which HS will likely do, they will butcher this guy), it means you will still need another minion, or some kind of fast card to finish it off, but it brings a semi answer that will help you trade up to a big guy while still getting a 4/2 on the board. Getting a 4/2 that deals 4 damage (on certain cases) for 3 mana seems like an ok card, very situational, and will not save you if the enemy has a really beefy big guy, or a big guy with divine shield, so yea, pretty much dead in constructed.
What do you guys think will be an unreasonable nerf yet realistic enough for HS to do?
This card is so unbalanced, maybe if we change the test for "Battlecry: If you control no minions, destroy an enemy minion with 7 o more attack".
But then it will only work in control, which usually has tools to deal with big guys, while midrange decks will keep that as a SERIOSLY niche comeback mechanisem, which is unlikely.
Only decks like combo, or freeze, or mill, get to a situation where their board is cleared, and a big threat falls on the other side. Freeze can just freeze and deal with it later, mill has many ways to deal with it, combo usually has an answer but i guess there it has the biggest chance to show up.
TL;DR Not the most likely of changes, but interesting nevertheless.
This card is Not OP. This is a card anybody can use unlike priests Shardow word death wich can do the same thing
My prediction for nerf:
Battlecry: if you are holding a beast, destroy a minion with 7 or more attack.
This is probably my favorite April Fool's Day card, other than Tuskarr Jouster.
Haha!
Just so nobody forgets, this was the april fools day art for this card. Seriously, this one is brilliant
No Ben don't load the darts backwards!
Big Game Hunter should have Battlecry: Destroy a Giant. and all the Giants (Mountain, Molten etc.) should be in the "Giant-Class"
I believe this would be fitting.
