Elise Starseeker
Card Text
Battlecry: Shuffle the 'Map to the Golden Monkey' into your deck.
Flavor Text
A large part of her job entails not mixing up the Map to the Golden Monkey with the Map to Monkey Island.

Love this card, I got the dream once too:
Turn 3 Coin+Elise, Turn 4 Drew Map + Played it... and drew the Monkey the same turn... However I saved him for abit, as there's no use playing him on turn 5 if all the cards have higher costs than your mana.
My fav card, just created it in Golden now so that my whole deck will become golden legends... excited :D
Actually if you play druid, I think the dream is turn 1 Elise turn 2 map, turn 3 astral, turn 4 monkey and then turn 5 whatever comes out.
Such a good and well designed card from Blizzard. Didn't have high hopes for it, but this card has made it so high-Control decks like Priest and Warrior no longer need to fill their decks with big legendaries as their late game because Elise Starseeker here does it for them, instead they can focus on countering Aggro, and making sure they reach up to the point where they draw the Golden Monkey.
Seriously though, I've put together some basic Elise Warrior deck. I swear - half of my games either Elise OR the Map OR the Monkey is the last card in the deck. How does that happen?
Makes the card totally unplayable even though the statistics say this should not happen.
Assume you have a regular deck of 30 cards and Elise is on the 15th spot as average, by the time you draw her, you only have 15 more cards in your deck.
Then you play her immediately, which shuffles the map to the remaining 15 cards, makes your total remaining card count 16, let's say it goes average again to the 8th position.
By the time you draw the map, you have 8 other cards left in the deck. The map shuffles the monkey to the 5th position of total remaining 9 cards.
In the end you play the monkey as soon as you draw it. There's only 4 more cards left in your deck, plus however many in your hand.
So, to my understanding, this card is only useful for control vs control that goes to fatigue. Otherwise it would require great luck.
Some pretty poor maths there. It's just as likely to be shuffled into the beginning as the end or the middle of your deck, its just obvious that since you need to draw 3 times to get it that it'll be later rather than sooner.
I am a little late but... do I see, a Reno Hunter perchance?
Listen up, folk, 'cause it's story time. I've finally unlocked 4th wing of LoE and I was SUPER HYPED for Elise Starseeker effect. I couldn't wait to try her out, but didn't really know how to build a deck with her. So I've put her in Dragon Priest, and I was like "hey, what can possibly go wrong?"
First match after including Elise: Control Warrior. It was rather passive and, as far as I know, not really favored for me game, and I knew that CW was going to crush me eventually, with his board control and tons of legendaries, but i managed to play Elise and map quite early. And so, after almost 30 turns, it happened that we both went to fatigue. Monkey was, of course, last card in my deck. But i've had almost full hand thanks to Ysera (4 laughing sisters... seriously?). So I played monkey... and got myself like 8 legendaries, including Justicar Trueheart. And thanks to Justicar, I could keep up in fatigue race, in the meantime spamming legendaries like I was actual CW in this match. And that was the first time Elise won me a game almost on it's own. I love this card :D
Right now, I'm thinking about a "Monkey Paladin". And I'd like to use Enter the Coliseum, just because I've recently got it and I think it's effect would be pretty cool, especially with BGH/Aldor as a follow up. What do you think, could it work?
I built a Rogue mill deck around this card. It's a lot of fun, but the most annoying thing is that there aren't enough cheap Legendary minions in Hearthstone yet. After I play the Golden Monkey and convert all my cards, I find myself with a bunch of stuff costing 6+ mana. It's impossible to remain on curve at this point, and so I get to play only one "least useless legendary", plus my hero power.
The best thing that can happen is to pull Varian Wrynn. Much worse is getting something like Malygos, Archmage Antonidas, Flame Leviathan, Rend Blackhand, Baron Geddon... and not having any real options. Few legendaries have Taunt or Charge, too, so it's difficult to regain board control with one card each turn.
Hopefully the move to Standard will take out some high-cost useless legendaries, or new expansions will bring more cheap ones (or with abilities you'd want when essentially topdecking).
This card is not good in Mill decks. As you said it yourself, this can lose you the game. You're better off playing your mill game.
My favorite card for heavy control priest :)
Fun card in constructed, and apparently viable on arena?
Seriously, a Paladin played a Golden Monkey against me while still having 19 cards left in his deck.
Even with 2 Flamestrikes I couldn't win against all those legendary minions.
Fun Fact: Elise's battlecry works with Alarm-o-Bot.
(Or at least it did for me :D)
Someone try and confirm this plz
Definitely one of the most fun cards coming out of League of Explorers. Additionally, much like Entomb, you can use her effect or that of the map to cheat fatigue.
EDIT: I guess I should have tested it better, I'm not sure anymore if the map really does reset fatigue as I thought it would. But I suppose her effect definitely does.
UPDATE: Turns out it doesn't really work. My mistake.
Oh, ok: Thanks for clarifying that for me. Regardless, I still maintain that it's one of the most fun cards in LoE. I've been using it in Reno Warrior, and, aside from the game where the monkey betrayed me and only gave me a few Barons Rivendare, Mukla, and Hemet, the results have been surprisingly pretty good.
this card is always on the bottom 3/4 of the deck made a draw deck never drew it before 10 cards left in 10 games
Well the monkey is almost ALWAYS among the last two cards for me.
Here's my fun Starseeker Reno Fatigue Warrior which gets wins.
