Changes in the Next Patch

This afternoon, Blizzard announced the card changes which we would be seeing in the next patch. Below is a list of cards which are going to be changing. The patch is currently scheduled to go live sometime this week. For more detailed information, please see this post.

• Unleash the Hounds - Cost decreased to 2, from 4.
• Pyroblast - Cost increased to 10, from 8.
• Blood Imp - Is now a 0/1 with Stealth. At the end of your turn, give another random friendly minion +1 Health.
• Warsong Commander - Whenever you play a minion with 3 or less Attack, give it Charge.
• Charge - Cost increased to 3, from 0. Give a friendly minion +2 Attack and Charge.
• Abusive Sergeant - Battlecry: Give a minion +2 Attack until the end of turn.
• Dark Iron Dwarf - Attack buff only lasts until the end of turn.
• Defender of Argus - Attack decreased to 2, from 3.
• Novice Engineer - Health decrease to 1, from 2.
• Sylvanas Windrunner - Cost increased to 6, from 5.

Went a little crazy with the nerf bat this week... I think some cards should be worthwhile in most decks.

Game Design

U should make new cards if u want people to play other things instead of nerfing most common cards. It's a bad way to shift meta.
Why is it bad? We are trying to get as balanced as possible as quick as possible - nerfs are less risky than buffs at this point.
Answering my own Q here: Nerfs are less fun and more demoralizing than buffs - still, I think getting to a stable env is worth it.

Its good that you dont want "mandatory" cards, but will you ever buff some of the "weaker" cards?

Some great tweaks there man! Btw how come Arcane Golem doesn't give its opponent Excess Mana" if its dropped when they have 10 mana
Excess Mana is Wild Growth specific, to make you feel less bad about putting it in your deck and drawing it at 10 mana. - Ben Brode (Source)

Why can Mages use their Hero Power to trigger effects but Rogues/Druids/etc can't attack to trigger it?
Attacking your own guys is weird! Spells are pretty different - sometimes it's positive, like a buff, so it feels less weird. - Ben Brode (Source)
