Blizzard has Released the 2017 Americas Championship Tour Rules
The rules update for the 2017 Hearthstone Championship Tour has finally arrived! We've gone over the rules and the points distribution is changing. We've compiled all the differences in points earning below.
It's worth pointing out that the rules state you can earn points from any of the Hearthstone ladders, but only your highest ranking in a season will actually reward you with points.
Note: Rules for other regions will be released by Blizzard when they're ready. Some of these rules may be different in other regions.
Tour End Date
The 2017 championship tour is "expected to conclude on or about January 21, 2018".
Ladder Point Allocation
Earning points from hitting Legend has changed for next year.
Placement | 2017 Tour (New) | 2016 Tour (Old) |
---|---|---|
1st | 12 | 15 |
2nd - 10th | 10 | 12 |
11th - 25th | 8 | 10 |
26th - 50th | 6 | 8 |
51st - 100th | 4 | 5 |
101st - 200th | 2 | |
Legend | 1 | 1 |
Hearthstone Cups Point Allocation
Cup events will be rewarding players with more points than before, making them much more important!
Placement | 2017 Tour (New) | 2016 Tour (Old) |
---|---|---|
1st Place | 5 | 3 |
2nd Place | 3 | 2 |
3rd - 4th Place | 2 | 1 |
5th - 8th Place | 1 | 0 |
Hearthstone Majors Point Allocation
Like Cup events, the Majors will be rewarding players many more points and will now be rewarding more participants.
Placement | 2017 Tour (New) | 2016 Tour (Old) |
---|---|---|
1st Place | 15 | 15 |
2nd Place | 12 | 10 |
3rd - 4th Place | 8 | 5 |
5th - 8th Place | 4 | 2 |
9th - 16th Place | 2 | 0 |
Hearthstone Season Championship Points Allocation
There will be less points awarded at the top end but those who simply made it will receive more than before. Blizzard has also adjusted the ranking distributions slightly to where places 33-64 won't receive as many points as those in the 17-32 bracket anymore.
The document specifies 32nd place twice but it wouldn't make sense for that spot to earn from both points allocations.
Placement | 2017 Tour (New) | 2016 Tour (Old) |
---|---|---|
1st | 20 | 30 |
2nd | 15 | 20 |
3rd - 4th | 10 | 15 |
5th - 8th | 8 | 10 |
9th - 16th | 5 | 3 |
17th - 32nd | 4 | 2 |
32nd and Below | 2 | 2 or 1 |
Read the Document!
You can find the document for the Americas Rules over here. We've also uploaded a mirrored copy here just in case the rules end up changing so we have something to compare it to.
Would just like to point out that:
"Cup events will be rewarding players with more points than before". This is not true. The actual amount of points you can gain from open cups per month went down from 12 to only 5. Why? Because previously the cap was weekly, this one is monthly. So ladder play and major tournaments are now *way* more important than any open cups.
Where's the best place to find the open tournament schedule?
Yeah if you win you get points to make it to next years pro tournament. Its fair and helps pros actually stay pro.
Actually I think those changes are pretty good.
When "Soon" is in 2017 we also might see a ranked overhaul to value those changes even more. There is hope! :)
Still weird (and unfortunate) that we aren't getting a world champion crowned at Blizzcon. This year's was especially great.
You can do different stuff with different decks.
For unknown reasons, every time someone feels obliged to state that everything in Hearthstone is the same.
Wow a 14 month tour.
What I dont understand in the point system is the points for the finals. There was 1 section missing above but if you read the full point section in the rules the final 16 players that make it to the finals for the World title get points yet at that time points are irrelavent because yer already there.
Yeah it isn't really clear. Perhaps they're giving out a prize at the end of the year for the top points earner as well which could in theory be someone who didn't win the final event.
