Haha, I used mind control tech, and it grabbed Rag, so he attacked my opponent for 20 two turns in a row, love it!

CWSmith posted a message on What's it like Cracking 50/80/130 Boosters?Posted in: General DiscussionQuote from NightCrawl3r >>I normally just preorder every expansion and don't spend any beyond that. Together with questing gold, it's about 100 packs when the expansion hits, maybe 50 more during the expansion and that's enough for me to have most of the meta decks. This expansion I crafted some memes, even in golden because the pre-order was slightly bigger last expansion. I only dust cards very conservatively, leaving intact anything that sees play or could have broken interactions in the future in case of nerfs. Dunno how much dust I have on "the button" but it should be a lot
130 should be more than enough to craft every meta deck incoming next expansion if your collection is already "caught up". Since you're not, you will need to spend dust on previous expansions for meta decks. 50 should be enough to make a meta deck or two and you'll be able to make a few more during the expansion as you generate gold from quests
The most important thing is that the pre-orders are always better value than normal purchases. If you think you might cave and buy Boomsday packs (or any other packs) after the expansion has already hit, then you're going to lose money. Make sure you buy enough to last until the next pre-order
Here are some stats on what you should find in your average pack. It should help you calculate your dust at the end of opening
I think the one thing that's kinda been tugging on me is the value of the Get in Here bundle. It was really good, even by Aussie standards. $12 or $13 for 20 boosters. Really wish I grabbed more! I think I'll go for both bundles with this prerelease. Should get me well up to speed. Would really like to try out more meta decks, and what will be popping up during the expansion. I'm guessing the standard meta mostly shifts to make good decks (and cards) better. Been really enjoying Wild Even Shaman as well. Having the extra dust to craft Aya/Ragnoros/Lich King would be amazing!
Quote from ur2ezchaos >>a good ammount of packs to get every expansion is 100, its a good min/max point because youll end up with every common, every rare, a decent ammount of epics and a few legendaries. enough for you to try basically every new deck that comes up bar maybe 1 or 2.
this is easily doable with a preorder + some gold that you save up from quests etc then keep saving dust/gold for the next expansion after that 100 packs, and eventually you dont have to preorder anymore and can survive on gold even without doing arena100 sounds like a good number. It seems that a lot of other posters are agreeing! It would be cool to buy both bundles, get me past that point, then spend on older packs/save for future releases. Cheers.
I compare it to actual boosters like mtg I have done large quantities of both Hearthstone it is nice knowing whenever you see a deck you like the look of you can craft it. Mtg however I have had moments of opening a few hundred boosters then pulling a single card that pays for the lot of them.
One provides immediate joy (this is essentially gambling however) the other sets you up for mild enjoyment from dopamine while opening followed by a few months of being able to craft any deck you want when you start to get bored of the game.
Lovely breakdown. I've hit a few of those MtG cards myself. Sought after foils, the Jace from Origins, Invications. Although stupid me likes to hold onto them. Not necessarily to play, which is weird as I don't consider myself a hoarder. I actually had someone recently offer me $100, cash in hand, for a Damnation invocation that just sits in a folder. I choked up and said it had sentimental value. Stupid.
Quote from AnonSpartan >>Opening a ton of packs at once makes you realize how little cards 135 a set is. I can't even count the number of times I'll open two of the same common in a pack. And honestly it just gets boring after a while. The orange glow and rare WAAAAH GOLDEN LEGENDARY! are always exciting but come too far and in between. I keep track of all of my legendary openings, and I have far too many that get to 30+ cards before I get something. And then in classic packs it's 4 packs and GOLDEN Cho, 6 packs and The Beast, so I guess that's just RNG.
And rares! I cracked 29 TGT packs (7+15+7) recently as I wanted inspire cards. Ended up with 6 or 7 Fallen Heroes! I find that annoying when cracking small amounts of packs, but think I'd glaze over it when opening a large amount. 100+ packs has to be full of dupes!
Sounds like you've had some luck with golden legendary cards in classic! Hey, it can't be all bad! The Beast was the first legendary I cracked from a pack. Seemed so cool at the time! I loved mid-range hunter and had nothing so powerful. Actually, I think it's still my most powerful beast card XD
I normally open around 200-300 at on the release day of an expansion.
The first 20 packs or so, I'll take my time, then I'm like "fuck it, just want to rip all these open and play with the cards already".
From my experience, I usually get one golden legendary and about 6-8k in duplicate dust.
Well, hopefully two golden legendary cards this time! I can see how that excitement would change with repetition. I might actively avoid spoilers to make those first few packs more exciting.
Quote from RavenSunHP >>I usually open something like 60-70 packs at each release, from gold.
And yeah, excitement is great.
However, value is obviously bound to variation. In Un'Goro i was lucky with a handful of t1 legendaries, in Witchwood not so much.
For me, the greatest downside of mass opening is seeing that a vast majority of your packs is occupied by the same card that keeps popping at each packs, while you can't even fulfill the list of common cards. It happened to me at every release, and even if i strive to stay scientific, i started to think that pack randomness is rigged.
Excitement stays strong. Best hearthstone moments are during releases imo.
Ah tell me about it! I mentioned that my only standard viable deck is odd pally, well I didn't crack any Lost in the Jungles after a obtaining a couple of legendary cards. Caved and crafted them. Keen to go back and open some more Un'goro packs soon, will probably crack a hoard of them then :)
Quote from Cptawesome >>I enjoy it. You really count the packs though, I remember with KoFT packs I opened 1 leg after 7 packs and the second 39 after that. Getting so close to the pity timer really hurts then.
What is most fun though is trying all sorts of stuff out against other people trying stuff out. It is, imo, the most enjoyable time to play.
I have a feeling that it's common to get the first legendary within 7 packs. I purchased 7 of packs of all wild sets. I think I missed the legend on one set and had to buy two more. I'm so looking forward to the experimental period! How long does it generally last before a new meta sets in? Has there ever been any mad discoveries found late in a set's life?
I pre-order pretty much every set.
Then, I get on Google Hangouts with a couple of friends who play Hearthstone, and we take turns opening packs while screen sharing. With 50 packs each, we all get to see 150 packs. We talk about the new cards and what decks we'll be trying to build.
By turning it into a social event, we have a lot more fun and make it a lot more exciting.
So yeah, I have a great time opening packs every set. Very satisfying .
This sounds like a really solid idea! I don't play on pc, but am thinking if I do purchase the 130, I might try figure out a way to record it. Turning it into a social event sounds so awesome! Not sure what time new sets drop, but if it's the same time as new daily quests, I would love to find a group in my area to do it with. 4:30pm is not too early for a few beers, right?
I don't know anyone who plays in person, but this is so something I want to experience some time. Almost like a MtG pre-release. would be cool if someone organised it at a pub, put an entry fee, mini tournament, then gave out prizes!
Quote from NudeWookie >>Like Christmas Day as a kid every 4 months when an expansion drops, I tend to experiment with whatever I'm given in the packs during the first few days before the meta settles.
I must confess, my excitement for the new set is pretty similar to how I felt around Christmas as a youngen. Shit, am I gonna miss out on sleep and be unable to work on the few days leading up to it? Haha!
I am a f2p , and usually i can get like 100 packs at least, on every launch. But this time it will be more, thanks to the amazing events firefest and timetavern. Its really doable if you do all your dailys, and reroll if got the lowest. I love to open these packs, because they are rewarding me for put all of this gold together. Between expansions i dont open any, expect for tavernbrawl and arena rewards and blizzgifts, so that unpacking period is my favourite, like a kid who gets his new toys. cheers
Ah yeah, that's fair enough. Honestly, if you told me I'd drop money if I played this, I probably would have avoided it. I do have a lot of catching up to do, want to play all types of styles, and don't mind spending a little on a game I enjoy. Hey, it's less I can spend on beer. My liver loves this game!

I totally agree. The problem is there are tons of toxic players who will continue to play OP old meta decks with 0 new cards so they can take advantage of those wanted to develop a new and more diverse experience.
Probably the same folks who run top tier standard decks in wild casual (and can be smashed by experimental decks). Ah well, this game does punish losing quite a bit. I can understand people taking advantage. Still, I'm gonna have a shitload more fun winning once after five losses of tweaking my deck between each game. Experimenting is where the fun's at!
Thats why i wish they just offer a full set bundle, a little cheaper option for us people buying 200+ packs. The downside is you dont get goldens, dust and the "thrill" of opening packs.
That is an interesting option. I can see why they wouldn't, however. If it was, say, $200 for a complete set (I figure it would cost more), then the game would be seen as a $800 a year game. And we can't have that; it's more than some of my mate's throw at the pokies on a weekend!
I pretty much always just preorder then use gold on the new expansion for a month then save the rest for the new expansion. This has always given me a good amount of dust and flexibility with deck building. I deviated a bit when they released the special bundle of 2 packs for each expansion and bought a bunch of those dramatically boosting my collection. The nice thing I've noticed is your pack openings tend to favor classes you play a lot. I have pretty much the whole druid/priest/mage collection. These are my main classes. On the flip side I rarely get legendaries/epics from hunter/paladin/rogue. That said I'm buying both bundles which should net me most of the collection with the 3 free legendaries that come with it and likely pulling another 6 or so from packs.
That seems pretty clever, focusing on a few classes and trying to collect everything from them. I still haven't picked a class I like the most yet. Enjoying them all!

I can imagine her in control and aggro as well. Great card, somewhere between playable and very good.

Basically you can get infinite copies of a card but it costs 3 more. It works great in hard control decks, especially in fatigue warrior.

Compared to it you lose a card however you gain the information of the next cards you will draw and you can remove any which you do not want. The Order you draw the cards will also be revealed with the left most card being the first card you will draw.
