I second what the above poster said, though there are a couple of really bad commons I dust when they can save me a rare and I have copies of them. Also, I recommend budgeting how much dust you need and then using a spread sheet to get that dust in a way that least hinders other mid to long term goals you have deck building wise. Also, make sure you have done all of the easy to do achievements including beating all of the hard difficulty AI opponents. Finally, design your first ladder deck to be less than 2,000 total dust, so that you have something you enjoy playing to pass the time between dailies that you can play on the ladder.
The Arena can be hit or miss. THe problem with it is that in order to do well enough at it to make a profit at it you have to be familiar with most of the cards in the game and understand the balance of the three major resources of the game. Even then it can be frustrating when someone just top decks and wins in a close match. I don't play arena often, but on average I win about 3-6 games per run. I sometimes end up at 2 or 7, but I have never made it to 12 wins. I just find arena to be to much of a grind. Constructed is a funner way, for me, to gain gold.
