I find there to be a few better 2 drops for any beast synergizing hunter.
Haunted Creeper. is a beast, summons two, aren't beasts, Spectral Spiderlings. You get no beast synergy besides the initial 1/2 drop. The spiderlings will no combo with Starving Buzzard nor any beast buffers, I find Dire Wolf Alpha a much better choice in my midrange/control hunter, and I don't see why other hunters would use the creeper.
How it can be that good: Two 1/1 minions isn't really great, especially that don't combo, unlike the 1/2, with your other Hunter cards. Also, the 2 1/1s can cause your board to fill up with very weak uncomboable (sorry for this word....just had to use something) minions when you could use them for something else. It can cause loss of good minions! As a hunter, I may need as many hounds from Unleash the Hounds as I can get. The hounds are more useful due to them being beasts. So, I may need to buff as many as possible with Timber Wolf. This can especially be frustrating in the current meta state of tempo/aggro heavy. You cannot look at total stats. Yes, its total stats are 3/4. But will you be getting the full 3/4 value out of it ever? No. You would only get to do 1 damage a turn until it dies, then the enemy can usually easily kill the 1/1 minions left. Even if not dealt with, you only get 1 damage a turn and a pretty much guaranteed dead minion when attacking for control.
So, now I have gone over why I think it is not useful that good. I would define "that good" as a comparison to any other 2 mana minion that hunters can use to synergize with beasts.
What would be better and why? While they may not have as much in "total stats" as the Haunted Creeper, both River Crocolisk and Razorfen Raptor would both serve a better purpose to a beast-synergizing Hunter. I find those both better for their immediate impact and not being limited to a deathrattle effect. The Creeper needs its deathrattle to be of much use. These 2 minions don't need anything besides being played (correctly) to have a use. In a non-beast synergizing value hunter, the Creepers are much more useful and can combo well with Undertaker. Are they worth running just as an anti-AoE? I really don't think so. Again as I have said before 2 1/1s isn't that impressive, and they are easy to deal with.
Also, just to add on... The initial minion, the Creeper, isn't really that good of a minion. It is a 1/2 which is a nearly pointless attack. Most people don't need to deal with it due to not being that good, and it is up to you to take the extra turn/actions in trading it up. If you are too focused on trading your single minion up, your opponent may have you in "their control" or be ready to easily defeat you.
AoE Insurance, 3/4 total stats for 2 mana, requires multiple attacks/actions by opponent to remove or gets caught up in an AoE. This is a very good card. Its easy to see why this card is good. Think about it, decks that have no beast synergy use it, you happen to play a hunter and the initial is a beast for added synergy.
