I am a HS player since beta, but played really few until pasts 6-7 months, which I got to spend several hours in the game.
I am not even a really experienced or good player at all but I think there's something important we all know since, almost, the first day we play: RNG. RNG appeared since beta (not as heavy GvG expansions) It could be in spells like lightning storm, card draw or cards like bane of doom. The heavy RNG is a cancer for this game from my experience aka Piloted, aka bane of doom, aka imp-losion, etc. But this thread is about the RNG from matchmaking. That matchmaking that makes u play against the same type of deck again and again and again. Facing Facehuntard, into Eboladin, into cancermage, into cancermage2, into facehuntard2.... Or against the same player 3+ times.
My solution to the matchmaking might be a bit heavy and make queue longers, but I think it's fine if it solves some of the problems I've stated before.
Here I go with my idea:
-When u finish building a deck, you must choose an archetype:
1.-Aggro: You choose this if u are playing an aggro deck, For that u must have 20+ cards in costs 0-3.
2.-Midrange: You choose this when ur deck curves to the midgame. For that u must have around 15 cards in costs 4-10.
3.-Combo: You choose this when ur deck is based on combo, being a heay-spell based (15+). If u play thaurissan you might be obligated to mark this option.
4.-Control: if ur deck curve to late game, this is the right option to mark. It demands at least 6+ cards on costs 8+ or more than 20 cards on costs 4-10.
The conditions of course are and idea of could it be, but I think they are important to don't let people spam Face-decks as control and thus. If ur curve looks like a midrange/combo deck, ur options will be those. If ur curve looks like control deck, u wont be able to pick it as an "aggro".
Additionnaly the queue involves this archetypes u are playing against:
-If u faced a face hunter (aggro) it will priorize to match u next 2 games against something different, for example 1 midrange and 1 combo deck.
-If u faced a Warrior (Cntrl), matchmaking will priorize to match u against a different class and will only match u against another warrior if there is anything avaible, but in a different sort of deck ("combo" aka patron or OTK warrior). Thus only applies once, so u cannot play vs warrior 2 games in a row, but the 3rd game u play, it can be a warrior!
U will have no information about how this is managed, but if u faced cntrl warrior u will know at least that no more control warriors will appear on next 2 games, making u see more diversity of classes and archetypes.
Also I know that curves does not defines a deck at all but it's a good idea to start with. A deck with antonidas, pyroblast, alextraza, and 2xFlamestrike CANNOT be Aggro nor midrange.
And example of queue would be this:
-1st game: Hunter Midrange appears: It had around 17 cards on curve 4 to 10.
-2nd game: The matchmaking priorize non-hunter non-midrange player, so it puts u against Eboladin aka Face Paladin.
-3rd game: U cannot face another aggro/midrange deck and/or Paladin, but u can find a control hunter if there's some1. Most likely not, so u are faced against oil rogue, as combo deck.
-4th game: midrange and paladin options are again viable so, u can't face Rogue or Combo decks. U are against Control Paladin now.
-5th Game: Aggro and hunter are avaible again, so Face Hunter might be ur next match.
And this over and over.
tl;dr:
-U can not face twice same class in a row.
-U can not face the same type of deck for next 2 games example: aggro-control-combo-aggro is possible, meanwhile aggro-control-aggro or aggro-aggro-control is not an option.
I am sure this wouldn't fix the problem at all, but would make it more skill involved bc u are facing a lot of different decks and classes and the most important: you won't be facing the same again and again, making u get tired of the game.
As you could just pick and choose your match ups, i.e meet the "aggro requirements" and then build a full anti-aggro deck and completely disregard what you're trying to achieve.
Match making as it is now, is fine with who/what you're matched with, since it's mostly random.
I see ur point. Random matchmaking is fine unless u are facing the same again and again. The idea of dropping it every 2 matches came from the base that u still dont know what will u face but u will have an idea. Maybe with only 4 big archetypes it is too much and could be nice dropping it just for a single game like the class idea. (1 game rotation), so u can go Face hunter-patron warrior-face hunter, but u make sure u are not playing against patron warrior twice in a row.
This is far too complex a solution to ever be implemented, and doesn't really solve the problem. The reason you're facing aggro decks nonstop isn't because the matchmaking system is broken, it's because a lot of people are playing aggro - particularly at ranks ~8-20 - to get in quick games for faster laddering. Limiting the system to the point where you can't face an aggro deck twice in a row would often mean much longer queue times or matching you against a player much higher or lower ranked than yourself.
I'd be in favor of an algorithm which "prefers" to not match you against the same class multiple times - in-that, if there are two available, equally ranked opponents - it will match you against the class you didn't just face. However, I still believe that queue times and equal ranking need to remain the highest priorities for matchmaking. Any change which negatively affects either of these factors is a bad change, IMHO.
