I started playing on US region 3 months ago. For a while I just did my quests and some arenas in weekends, for about 4-5 hours of play time per week. Then, last season I played ranked and got legend with a cheap deck. Then, this season, I took a challenge: get legend by playing only 30 minutes per day.
Today, I managed to get legend with less than 10 hours of total playtime over the whole season. Last game was against Reynad. I did not put any money in, just used gold. My stats are low, 636 wins in total, max hero at lvl 48. I have those stats after getting legend in 2 seasons.
I think that this proves that is not a pay to win game and also does not require a huge amount of time to get legend.
So, if I, a nobody, managed that, shouldn't be hard for anyone else to get legend without throwing money in and without spending every day in game. For my point of view, this concludes the "pay to win" topic for ever
I've been playing for a half a year now and spent maybe $50. I have never completely just built a deck card for card from this website (or any other, for that matter). I would like to make legend my own way. Topped out at rank 7 so far, and I'm still proud of that!
Either way, congrats on legendary bud. I play probably an average of 2-3 hours a week, and I cannot make it even up to rank 5 ever haha. I really thought I would try this season, but it just takes too much time. 30 minutes a day is even hard to reach at times =(

Who said the game is pay to win? Most people acknowledge that skill and time are typically the limiting factor for reaching legend. Congrats on your accomplishment, but you played a beat down deck which means your games are going to be quick regardless if you win/lose. Some people don't enjoy those decks and there's no way you are going to hit Legend with a midrange or control deck in ~10 hours no matter how good you are. Playing a low cost aggro deck and then coming to the conclusion that "anyone should be able to do this in less than 10 hours" really comes off more as a humble brag than anything else.

This, so much haha. Even when I play aggro decks, I play them with a midrange mindset, making the games last 10 minutes instead of 4. Throw in a meager 55% win rate at my current rank (I'm actually at a 71% win rate this season overall, starting at rank 20), and I have no hope of making it to legendary unless I call in sick for the next week lol.

It doesn't prove anything. I've never taken a stats class, or anything similar to it. However, basic knowledge of sample size , etc , renders your statement invalid. If anything, your whole post is rather obnoxious... Take a look at some of the other threads about people hitting legend.
Notice how they are all motivational? Notice how yours comes off as self-centered and slightly insulting to the reader? Yeah.... xD
Wow. If I could consistently devote a half-hour a day to Hearthstone, that would be a dream come true.

I looked at this card originally and I thought, you know, it's a card, and you play this card. The card will be that card that you play so you're playing a card. So, it is one thing to play a card. If you're opponent doesn't really have any cards, the card will screw up the card pretty hard, and that means it's a pretty good card.
One legendary is definitely craftable for most F2P players in a few months if they actually disenchant non-used legendaries, epics and goldens. If you want to go for legend as a F2P player, you should definitely disenchant stuff.
If you don't craft anything else in the meantime then yes that's true...
If you play a couple hour a day, and disenchant every card you get that you don't need, you should be able to craft a full hunter or zoo deck in a month. I know from experience, and I didn't get lucky and pull a legendary either. It's all about a solid win ratio and playing a couple arenas a week.
you cannot seriously recommend arena in this context. only players with previous experience in other card games and TCGs can quickly get a decent win rate in the arena, for the rest, its a grind, its a good investment because you learn a lot. but it still is a grind for all those that have no previous TCG experience.
about the pay2win thing: of course free to play works really well for players that 1.: started early and 2.: started with previous experience in TCGs or that 3.: research a WHOLE LOT and learn fast.
but for people that are late to the party, and that have no experience with MTG and other trading card games, and that do not have too much free time.... money really makes a difference. when your goal is to get good at arena to beat the game this way and sort-of advance to free2play, buying arena tickets for money is good. and to catch up with the rest of the crowd, buying card packs is good. and above all, buying naxx is the best deal for real money.
by the way, this season it seems like i am stuck at rank 3 again with my zoolock.
Why can't I recommend arena? Last I checked I was saying you can build a good free to play deck in a month, I never said that you can do it while also sucking at the game. I guess I shouldn't recommend doing ranked in f2p either as it takes skill to make it to legend lol. All I was saying in my post was that you COULD, not that you SHOULD.
Congratz OP. Don't worry about the hate, they just jealous.
^^ This. Job well done, Player.

I honestly don't think that you are proof that it is not p2w game. For me only proof I need is ek0p who spend few bucks in beta to get golden Gelbin and is in legendary every season and is consistent with every deck, not just aggro- no skill needed types :-) So i think you just created this post as your own personal ego boost
I've had a few different hobbies over the years and I see this on message boards consistently no matter what I'm into. People complain that others achieve the same achievement in a way that is less than they deem worthy. IMO, as long as you are having fun playing, who cares! Haters, try to spend your short time on this earth just having a good time instead of trying to tear down others happiness.
I've played a huntard deck this season on my hopefully way to legend (I'm on rank 4 atm). I actually don't really enjoy hunter all that much but I knew that with my limited time and cards that it was my best chance to hit legend. I think I'd rather play warrior but I'm 3-4 legends and epics short of that deck and I've spent $80 so far since I started playing in April.
And I guess I'm slow because I had to spend a lot of time researching all of the other current decks to be able to win. I also spent a lot of time watching Massan, Trump, Amaz, etc. This is my first try at Legend and I wouldn't consider it totally easy with hunter.
I will try to play some control next season though.
Maroon, you are completely missing the piont of wat hearthstone is about... Getting to legend is only a small part of HS, many people like to collect Golden cards ( by many, I mean a lot ) and make full Golden sets. Anyone playing this game for more than a month can get legend, the real challenge in this game is collecting 30 Golden cards for one respective class.
When you have collected a full Golden set of cards with no money payed into the game that will be very impressive and my hat will off too you. I have invested about 300 USD into HS and I will not invest anymore as I have almost got my full Golden set, and I must say it sure does look neat to play with ( was worth every penny ).

You don't get to legend by being lucky.
Cancerous hunter DR deck, nothing new here...
EU
I bet even if you guys played with that deck to reach legends you wouldn't even pass rank 4. Don't act so high and mighty.
Grats on the achievement!
Missing lethal since 1987.
Legendary for the most part takes a decently built deck, a moderate to good player skill wise, and the most important part.... TIME.
It's called a grind for a reason.

Please explain how winning with a Leroy deck, which 99.5% of F2P players will never see, puts to rest the F2P argument?
