Yes, that was interesting to see the various reasons people were proud to spend no money on the game. I admit I feel a little cheesy buying 300 packs when an expansion drops. I'm very well-off so it's not an issue that I can't afford it but it does seem kinda lazy. What I've been doing though is saving up gold so I can buy some packs with gold just so I feel like I'm doing some work in the game for in-game content! Saved up 4000 gold so far!
I've been f2p since gvg, maybe a bit before - I honestly don't recall. I have a pretty decent set, but I still end up having to dust a few classes and write them off as decks. Originally I dusted all warrior, priest, rogue and warlock cards but lately my set is large enough I'm trying to fill warrior and priest back out. It limits me to about 2 or 3 meta decks a season and often with a few/ton of substitutes if I want to pull tier 1 or popular net decks, and it's left me with a few oddballs. Quest wild shaman with only murlocs and two everyfins was my ticket from 10 to 9, though then I had to dust my rogue and warlock to build control shammy to get any further. Careful shopping on how I spend dust, wait for metas to stabilize before committing to making one, and shoot for the most rounded so i know it'll stay competitive for a while. Try to prep for a shift.
I chose to stay f2p because I've got a kid and thus a limited budget, she and my wife and family priorities come first. Most of my game budget dumps into steam sales for best hours to dollar gain. I like hearthstone but it also leaves me feeling scorned as often as elated.
I figured it was going to be one of those games, so I never spent a dime. Sure it made the experience pretty shitty, but I saw pack drop rates and then old expansions became unavailable... To think I could've spent money on cards that were going to be relegated to Wild.
Since I mostly play only priest in constructed I am able to afford every priest card and the necessary neutrals for meta decks just with gold. I just start saving the coin when the second season of a new expansion starts and I usually have like 5000 gold for the new expansion and buy a few more over the course of season 1. then repeat.
But I did spend money here and there. Sometimes an arena entrance. 5€ for khadgar.
I am willing to pay if it interests me but since old gods the tactic from above was sufficient.
I used Amazon coins 2 times. So let's see. 25$ for LoE, 10$ for bundle, 25$ for gadgetzan (+5$ for coins tax), 50$ for Un'goro pre order( +5$ for tax), 5$ for a wing of BRM (this time I had enough) and possibly KotFT, so in the end, 125$ or 175$ with KotFT
Yeah. Just noticed how much I spent.
Oooh! A 5$ sale on coins! Knights of the Frozen Throne! Fuck yeah!
I've bought all of the adventures, the welcome pack, and on average, about 20 - 30 packs per expansion cycle. Considering how many hours I've played over the years, I think the amount that I've spent is perfectly reasonable.
I do not play or buy other games than hearthstone so for the 3+ years I am playing now I guess 70-100 euros a year (I buy the adventures and buy a few packs each expansion).
Hearthstone is a game that I can dip back in and out of in between playing other games. There aren't many games where I have been able to milk entertainment for almost 4 years, so for all it's faults I gotta say Hearthstone is doing something pretty well.
I am in the $1000-$2000 range, although I admit I have spent too much to myself I am the type of person who will want freedom to try every kind of deck when a new expansion is released and also used to paying such prices for paper card games.
Also, very glad for the Legendary duplicate change I won't be opening 6 Soggoth the Slitherer like in the Old Gods anymore :D
When you have enough money it's not a big deal to spend some of it on games. But if you don't have much money it may sense crazy that others spend alot of them.
180 US dollars. I've only been playing since the launch of Grand Tournament, so after the Welcome Bundle came out, I ultimately made the decision to purchase things with real money since I don't consistently build a collection of gold. My collection is adequate now, since I own most commons and rares in Standard, a mixed bag of Epics (Shaman and Warlock are the only classes where I have a lot of the good ones), and a smattering of legendaries. I recently caved and crafted Aya and Patches because of their prevalence in Shaman, but I'm looking forward to pre-ordering Knights of the Frozen Throne, a first for me.
From here on out, I'll likely be purchasing $20 of packs per week if I end up enjoying myself at the launch of the new expansion. Mostly because I'd like to craft Kalimos at some point.
I've been playing since Beta so it has probably added up. I don't buy packs but I do like buying the expacs straight out instead of using gold for them. Everything else I buy with game gold. This is probably the game I play the most out of all my games, though so I think the value has been fine.
I play f2p since when I have excess money I prefer to try something new, with a whole new game, rather than accelerate my progress through a game. HS is not generous like many other card games but it is just fast enough that I never run out of new things to try in hearthstone without paying, It probably helps that I play so many different games though so I don't overload on hearthstone.

I reckon since playing hearthstone I have spent around £160 on packs arena and one pr-order. So 200 dollars ish?
Please don't tell my girlfriend about my card collection...
