As you open the wing, The Headless Horseman "greets" the player with some sick rhymes! The first wing, Shadowfang Keep is all about the Worgen. Transformation will be a recurring theme in the rewards, as well as in the boss fights. Note: this is the vanilla version of Shadowfang Keep, not the Cataclysm one. That means it will be a lot more focused on Worgen rather than Undead.
Highlighted Boss: Razorfang the Butcher
Razorfang the Butcher is the first boss of the wing. For this boss, you will have to help the Pyrewood Milita defending the village. This fight doesn't directly take place in Shadowfang Keep, but we'll get there...
At the start of each turn, Razorclaw must use his Hero Power if possible. He will prioritize any weak minions he owns himself, but he will also transform your minions. Therefore you should try to play a lot of small minions. But wait, there's more! You will start the game with a Pyrewood Captain on your side:
This means your Pyrewood Milita will transform into Worgen each turn! So, isn't this fight super easy? Well, Razorclaw has a surprise for you...
Razorclaw runs 4 copies of this card in his deck! This means you will more often than not have to trade in your Worgen, or win very fast... But Razorfang runs a deck filled with Whirlwind-effects, which means he will easily deal with any of your small minions that don't become Worgen. Here's a rough idea of what his deck would look like:
After you defeat him, the wing will continue inside Shadowfang Keep...
Highlighted Cards
Card Explanations:
Archmage Arugal This card is really good if you have a big hand and if you can defend it. When it dies, your cards will return to normal, so you have to think about which Worgen are which cards. If it survives, you can dump your hand to get lots of 3/3's. It might seem weak, but I wanted to be careful with it. At the same time, I also want it to be completely crazy. It could possibly be a 7/7 or cost 7 and still not be too overpowered, but for now this is how it looks. Summoner's Tome Just what everyone wanted: Discover and Atiesh in one card! There's not too much to say about this card, except getting Pyroblast would be insane! Then again, you'd need to play a 3-mana card that doesn't really do anything the turn you play it. Shadowfang Ragetooth The "drawback" of this card is often very helpful for a Warrior! Best case scenario is if you hit two minions with an Enrage effect, or something like Acolyte of Pain, and it gains 2 Health! A 5/7 for 5 is preeetty good!
The Other Bosses and Cards
Boss #1: Razorfang the Butcher
The boss fight is already described above, so I will only show the rewards for the boss:
Pyrewood Huntsman At first sight, this card seems like bullshit. Either they ping it and it sucks, or it's a 1 mana 3/3. Now that statement is partly true, but remember that it gets summoning sickness when it transforms, so you can't attack with it right away. Anyway, it might be good in Paladin with Steward of Darkshire or something.
Boss #2: Baron Silverlaine
When you enter the keep, you find out Baron Silverlaine is dead! He's now a ghost that haunts the keep. What has happened here?
Wailing Guard A very strong Taunt-minion for 3 mana, but it comes with a small drawback. A solid card, but I don't have much to say about it. Lupine Spectre A 4-mana 4/5 for Hunter, with an additional effect?! What am I thinking? Well, the effect can both be good and bad depending on the situation. At worst, it makes your 3-drop, or later drop worse. But at best, it heals a minion you've already traded with or upgrades a 1/1 Mastiff or something. The Wolf is a Beast, by the way.
Boss #3: Archmage Arugal
At the top of the keep, the maddened Archmage Arugal awaits. It is he who caused the Worgen curse that plagues Pyrewood. You will have to defeat him to remove the curse!
Arugal's Hero Power is similar to Magic Mirror's Hero Power. You get a Worgen if you were the one that cast the spell. He gets a Worgen if he cast the spell. His deck is entirely compromised by spells. That means you could for example build a Trogg-deck to defeat him.
Rewards (Arugal + End of Wing):
Darkhound A cool 2-drop for Warlock. Because it's a Beast, it can synergize with Zoobot and Menagerie Magician. Shadow Dance Allows you to reuse powerful Battlecries or Combos, or just strong legendaries in general such as Sylvanas Windrunner. Especially strong with cards that have both Battlecries and Deathrattles, such as Xaril, Poisoned Mind.
Class Challenge #1: Druid
You will fight Razorclaw the Butcher with a special transform/beast-deck! One of the most useful cards you will find in the deck is the reward of the Class Challenge itself:
Druid of the Pack This card makes your druids better. That's pretty much the idea. It also makes any Polymorphed minions better, if you ever get put into that situation.
Class Challenge #2: Mage
You will fight Archmage Arugal with a special all-spell deck! An arcane melee where both players only have spell-decks. Your reward will of course also be a spell:
All Rewards:
Druid of the Pack
Play: "Join the pack!" Attack: "My rage is unleashed!" Death: "ROAR!"
He wanted to be called "Druid of the Druids", but it didn't go home with the Cenarion council.
Lupine Spectre
Play: *Howl* Attack: *Growl* Death: *Whine*
Taking care of spectral dogs is harder than you think. You can't even pet them!
Summoner's Tome
It was never really popular among the 9-mana minions.
Shadow Dance
Rogues are often so shy they will end up dancing with their own shadows.
Darkhound
Play: *Growl* Attack: *Bark* Death: *Whine*
Darkhounds never seem to win any dog contests.
Shadowfang Ragetooth
Play: "My teeth ache... for blood!" Attack: "Get in my mouth!" Death: *Growl*
He should really just visit the dentist.
Pyrewood Huntsman
Play: "Get... get away from me!" Attack: "I feel... angry!" Death: "Not... like... this!"
He says he's going to hunt deer, but he always seems to come home with human...
Wailing Guard
Play: "I'll die before you get past me!" Attack: "Begone!" Death: "I'll haunt you... foreveeer!"
He's really bad at coming up with comebacks.
Archmage Arugal
Play: "Who dares defy the sons of Arugal?" Attack: "You, too, shall serve!" Death: "No... my doggies!"
Talk about crazy dog man...
Note for future sets:
Thank you for checking out my adventure! I just wanted to say some words here about the cards I featured last week, Graveyard Banshee and Balnazzar:
Starting out with the banshee, she's just simply overpowered. I want to nerf her in some way by the time I release her, possibly by increasing the mana cost, or reducing her stats. I don't want to make too big of a nerf, but as she stands I think she's too strong. As for Balnazzar, I didn't really think the wording of the card through. His text implies he would get more and more text throughout the game, starting from even turn 1. This isn't what I originally intended, I was thinking the text was going to be replaced each time. Now, I do like crazy legendaries though, so I think I will keep the wording. However, I think I will need to nerf him in some way because of it. I think I should use the discussion thread more often (well, at all), especially if I'm able to move on to the next stage of the contest. Anyway, thanks again and... uh... have a nice day!
When exploring the Caverns of Time alongside Anachronos, one of their guardians, you get lost. Wandering through the immense chambers, you end up in what appears to be a round cave with a pond in the middle. Curious, you look over and... SPLASH! You fall into the misty waters. However, you don't end up at the slimy bottom of a lake, you fall down in a lush green forest, with an imposing figure looking at you with a strange look.
A young Illidan Stormrage, without its characteristic wings and horns, prompts you to follow him reaching what appears to be a millitary camp. You have travelled 10,000 years back in time, when the world was one and young, when there were no humans and dwarves were still made of rock. When Sargeras was nearly summoned to Azeroth. The time of the War of the Ancients.
Featured cards
Sayaad Temptress: my take at making a more controllish type of Warlock more viable. It is an average body coupled with a great ability, that can be transformed into hard removal with something like Power Overwhelming. Imagine doing this and then Shadowflame!! I think it is a fair and interesting card, that could be used to great effect in the right decks. Its concept is very clear, and just in case, sayaad is another name for the race of succubi and incubi.
Neltharion: a brave take on the mechanics of Prince Malchezaar and Reno Jackson, with a twist. I see it being used in a new type of aggro/midrange dragon deck, that aims to close the game before the legendary count of each deck starts to matter. It is based on the fact that Neltharion has always seen himself as the one who should rule, far over the other Aspects and anyone else. As such, it is only reasonable that he rewards you for having him as the only true Legend.
Wyrmtongue Plunderer: wyrmtongues are a race of demons that represent the equivalents of treasure goblins from Diablo. Thiefs and cowards, they hoard everything of value they encounter, and ran away from battles. This card is based around this concept, and the high-risk, high-reward counters a potentially very strong effect, in the right decks.
Your adventure starts as the Kaldorei resistance prepares itself to defend against the hordes of demons that are appearing out of nowhere. You will follow Illidan through the skirmishes, and the first real threat you will encounter is Azzinoth.
Azzinoth
This boss will test your ability to play with less minions than expected. His fighting will be based around his weapons, the fel glaives that will then be used by Illidan when you defeat him. His deck will consist of a variety of weapon buffs, like Deadly Poison and Upgrade!, along with some Demons like Dread Infernal or Imp Gang Boss. Most of the cards will be from the Rogue and Warrior classes, using old and new tools like Execute or Shadow Strike along with the newest additions, like Recuperate. Without any direct damage spells apart from Eviscerate, you are able to predict how much damage he will deal in the following turns, but you should take into account that your win condition can't be based on fragile minions. These are some of the custom cards he will use against you:
Rewards
Once you have beaten this demon, you will be awarded with the following cards:
Class challenge
You will face Azzinoth once again, as a Rogue. Your deck will be a heavy control deck, trying to supress Azzinoth's weapons through Taunt, Deathrattle and a lot of value. Your deck will have a heavy end, featuring N'Zoth, the Corruptor and Anub'arak, and you will be able to heal yourself through the reward of this wing, Recuperate.
Once you have ended the legion's advance through the forest, you will advance in the direction of the city. The Kaldorei resistance has allied with the Dragon Aspects: Malygos, Ysera, Alexstrasza, Neltharion and Anachronos (instead of a missing Nozdormu); and this mighty beings are trying to forge an artifact that will destroy the demon armies, and end the war swiftly. In order to do so, you will have to gain time for them, and are now met with your second challenge. The first demon to set foot on Azeroth, Hakkar the Houndmaster.
Hakkar the Houndmaster
Hakkar, as the Houndmaster, is heavily based on Zoo-style aggression. He will try to fill the board, and even though his individual minions aren't that strong, as seen with Zoolock, numbers matter. Using things such as Power Overwhelming, Abusive Sergeant and Garrison Commander, he will try to fill the board with his precious Felhounds, using then his mass buffs on them. These buffs will give them special powers, like +2 Attack, +2 Health and the like:
Rewards
Once you have beaten the second boss, you will be awarded with the following cards:
You have vanquished two generals, but the demon armies are infinite. As impossible as it seems the battle seemed to bolster, not diminish or tire them. Felguards, ered'ruin, felstalkers and little imps surround your small force from all sides, crushing you into a tight circle, spears and shields facing out. When all seems lost, great silhouttes darken the sky, their scaly and colourful bodies gliding over the battlefield. The dragons had arrived. Then, they entered the battle with mighty roars and lethal breaths, fire, arcane magic and shifting sand raining over the fel beasts. Above them all, the giant shadow of Neltharion rose, and obliterated hundreds of demons in one swoop with the power of the newly forged Dragon Soul. However, just when the tide was turning...
HA HA HA HA!
The laughter of the Aspect of Earth echoed through the field, its eyes turned red. He turned, and aimed the artifact at Malygos and his Blue Flight, decimating them. The Aspect of Magic roared in despair.
As the deranged Aspect plows through demon and dragon alike, when all hope seems lost, Illidan turns to you.
Featured fight: Neltharion
Neltharion is the most powerful of the dragon Aspects, and as such, his fight will be tense and difficult. He sports a deck based around dragons, with lots of spells and card draw. He will use minions like Twilight Whelp, Twilight Guardian, Blackwing Corruptor and Volcanic Drake; along with fire and earth based spells like Flamestrike, Dragon's Breath and Ancestral Knowledge. You will have to be very careful with what minions you play, because the board will be wiped every 2 turns. There are two successful approaches to this fight. Either you race him, trying to get value with charge and direct damage minions, or you play it slow, casting spells and holding out until the best moment to strike.
However, this is a two phase fight. After you have struggled through his armor, his next turn will be spent casting a spell and changing his Hero Power.
The true race begins now. You will have to end him in less than 10 turns, or he will use the full power of the artifact to destroy you completely. Ideally, you haven't run out of steam by now... In heroic, the fight will function in exactly the same way, but he will start with 10 more armor and his second Hero Power will cost 7 instead, making it much more difficult to finish in time.
Neltharion rewards
Class challenge
Beating Neltharion for the first time opens up the Mage class challenge. In this challenge, your deck will consist mainly of spells, having Frostbolt, Forgotten Torch, Flamestrike, Arcane Intellect and Frost Nova. Along them, you will have Emperor Thaurissan, Malygos and Queen Azshara, in order to create a really strong combo to kill Neltharion before he blows you up, with Doomsayer and Freeze effects to help you stall the game. Apart of the obvious Arcane Intellect, your card draw will be empowered by the new card and reward for this challenge, Occult Volition.
Full Wing Rewards
And this is it! Neltharion, now called Deathwing, fleed from the battlesite, hiding somewhere far. Malygos, with his flight in shambles, abandoned the battle, and the other Aspects are in disarray. The Kaldorei resistance, however, lives to see another day, and prepares its assault on Zin-Azshari. And most importantly...
To reach the Frozen Throne, the gates of Icecrown must be openned. To do this, you must pass through some of Arthas’s most powerful minions and escape his wrath. Survive, and you will enter his frozen fortress. Fail, and a fate worse than death awaits.
Captain Falric
Captain Falric has trapped you with his patrol! With Jaina Proudmoore and Sylvanas Windrunner assisting you, defeat Falric and his Death Knights. Falric will bombard you with overpowered minions and spells. However, on your turns Sylvanas or Jaina will will cast spells and summon minions to assist you. The power level of Falric’s deck is on par with the decks of Ragnaros, Nefarian, Kel’thuzad, Rafaam, Medivh, and Malchezaar in the boss based tavern brawls and Karazhan’s prologue. Falric plays a heavy undead strategy with lots of staying power, while Jaina and Sylvanas play mage spells, hunter spells, and Undead to aid you. His hero power summons one of the cards you'll be awarded later, Captain Marwyn.
Other Bosses:
Devourer of Souls plays a tempo spell deck that uses large amounts of cheap spells that deal damage to synergize with his autocast heropower that tends to put a lot of spell damage on the board.
Scourgelord Tyrannus tries to single out your minions and use weapons to beat down your forces. His deck specializes in answering single minions at a time and dealing damage.
Then the 3rd fight of the wing is versus Falric and his trusty Marwyn, with details in our showcase battle.
In this 1st wing, the final encounter is "Escape from Arthas", where you have to hold your ground againist a relentless assault from Arthas while getting more assistance from Jaina and Sylvanas. Hold out for enough turns, and escape the Lich King until you're prepared to face him at the Frozen Throne.
Showcase Rewards
After defeating Falric and completing the wing, you can add him to your collection. Falric and Marwyn happen to synergize. Falric creates a lot of Undead minions, that Marwyn can buff.
The Death Knights don’t fall easy, and Persistence lets you avoid lethal damage for a full turn, at the cost of a smaller amount of the health you’re trying to protect.
Here with People’s Champion we explored the idea of a minion that rewards you for only playing commons and basics. Cards that reward deckbuilding constraints seem enjoyable, and this card tries a new form of constraint.
The Other Many Rewards
Since the Collapse of Icecrown Citadel introduces a brand new class with enough cards to catch them up with the standard card pool, there’s a very large amount of cards in this set. The wing contains 4 bosses, and 3 class challenges. In order to help introduce the Death Knight class, we’re giving Death Knight a new class challenge in each wing of the adventure using different decks using their new cards in different decks. Here’s the other cards we’re packing in this first wing!
Devourer of Souls: Scourgelord Tyrannus: Falric: Escape from Arthas: Wing Rewards: Shaman Class Challenge: In the shaman class challenge, you use a spellpower deck to fight the Devourer of Souls, and give him a taste of his own medicine! Paladin Class Challenge: In the paladin class challenge, You play a token/buff deck against Falric Death Knight Class Challenge: In this first Death Knight class challenge, you play a weapon deck filled with weapon synergy cards to train your skills on Scourgelord Tyrannus. The Mark of Rimefang means nothing to your icy steel!

2x Rampage
4x Raging Worgen
2x Ravaging Ghoul
4x Unleash the Beast
