Hey there everyone I'm Katsumi AKA Katsu_hs on Twitch and Twitter, I'm a competitive hearthstone player with multiple top legend finishes. I'm here today to bring you a brand new archetype of priest deck, tempo priest. I've been testing out many different variants of a more aggro priest deck and got to legend with a murloc priest list last season.
With this deck I've created Breakfast Priest, a very viable tempo priest list, I took the deck up to top 10 legend today. The list revolves around around creating a large board state that is awkward for your opponent to remove, then using that board state to control the board and eventually use inner fires for sudden lethal potential.
How to Play:
I have included some hsreplay clips to show you how to play this deck!
Vs Dragon Priest: https://hsreplay.net/replay/LoegYxvov9U3zjsrNHTzgP and https://hsreplay.net/replay/tppXP9Skced68oXCC6WDG6
Vs Tempo Rogue: https://hsreplay.net/replay/Zc5NE5x2q3xZwy3ZMVeoCV
Vs Miracle Rogue: https://hsreplay.net/replay/4QtQKe6FsxwG2ny4VArMmj
Vs Quest Mage: https://hsreplay.net/replay/nrMmbGkqJDRbEZvGUmhhcQ
Vs Control Mage: https://hsreplay.net/replay/z36UTLm9VYht3r4DpJjr7a
Vs Control Warlock: https://hsreplay.net/replay/pH23Akz3SeysBTMg2KgbWM
Matchups:
Druid - This is a great match up, the key to winning vs druid is creating BIG minions with divine spirit and inner fire. Radiant Elemental + Power Word: Shield + Divine Spirit + Inner Fire will win you games. Try to not extend too much vs druid to play around Spreading Plague, 3 moderate to large minions is MUCH better than 4 or 5 smaller ones. Cobalt Scalebane and Bonemare are your friends here!
Hunter - This match up can be hard without a fast start. Always mulligan for your early minions, Northshire Cleric, Radiant Elemental, etc. The ideal opener is Radiant Elemental + Power Word: Shield, Defender of Argus can be huge if you can buff a couple sticky minions. Try to preserve health, this deck does not run healing, so your life total is somewhat relevant.
Mage - This match up is not too bad, silence is a key card for a Doomsayer response. End of turn effects are fantastic vs mage, as they do not typically run a lot of removal that can handle buffs. Your early board is typically left uncontested, try to get the mage's life total down as quickly as possible to lethal them before they can combo you.
Paladin - This match up is one of the hardest for the deck. Paladin buffs their minions quickly and can go off before this deck can catch up. to win you will need to have a fast start to clear their murlocs before they can Gentle Megasaur. Silence can play a huge catch up effect if you silence a Blessing of Kings or spikeridge steed, this alone can win you the game.
Priest - This matchup is great, it's a little tricky to play, but the key is to hold your combo until you need to clear a big minion or to lethal them. If you go off too early they will be able to regain control. Try to create awkward board states for them to clear, if you're going into their turn 6, playing Devilsaur Egg or Cobalt Scalebane will make a Dragonfire Potion unappealing. If they're highlander and you're going into their turn 8, playing a Bonemare on your Devilsaur Egg will make it a 4/7, great for combos the next turn and immune to Shadowreaper Anduin. Try to avoid buffing your Devilsaur Egg to 1 or 2 attack to play around Potion of Madness. Eventually you should be able to suddenly lethal them with Divine Spirit Inner Fire.
Rogue - This match up is also great. The key to winning vs rogue is to control their board and make your board as wide as possible. Rogue doesn't run any aoe, so try to get as many minions on the field as possible while clearing their minions. Radiant Elemental + Power Word: Shield is a fab start, look for Golakka Crawler, there are two of them for a reason! You might be tempted to go all in on a single minion, but vs rogue keep in mind that Vilespine Slayer can ruin your day. If you have, say, a 3/8 minion and a 3/4 minion with a Kabal Talonpriest in hand, it might be wiser to buff the 3/4 to diversify your buffs. Board control will get you further than inner fires in this match up.
Shaman - This is the worst match up for this deck, Devolve is a card that you will curse from the high heavens. Shaman is a matchup where you might have to take risks to win, Barnes is a fab card, higher mana cost minions are more valuable than lower mana cost minions and buffs are less relevant. IMPORTANT NOTE: If you can Bonemare a 0 mana minion it is immune to devolve!
Warlock - This match up is decent, demon zoo warlock doesn't run any single target removal, so creating huge minions is usually the right line to go. Try to control their board while advancing yours as much as you can. Devilsaur Egg can play a huge role in winning this matchup with Inner Fire and Bonemare. Golakka Crawler is fab for their pirates! Radiant Elemental + buffs is also absolutely fab.
Warrior - This matchup is great with the double Golakka Crawler! You want to hard mulligan for Radiant Elemental + shield and Golakka Crawler. Warrior always runs a ton of pirates, so the sooner you can clear their board the better. They will almost always go face, so try to preserve your life total as much as you can.
Mulligans:
Always keep: Radiant Elemental, Northshire Cleric, Golakka Crawler, and Barnes
Sometimes keep: Power Word: Shield (if you have a 1 or 2 mana minion and it fits your curve well, always keep with Radiant Elemental), Devilsaur Egg (keep if you have 1 or 2 drop minions, look for a good curve), Shadow Ascendant (keep if you have a 1 or 2 drop minion, look for a good curve), Shadow Visions (Keep with radiant ele if it fits the curve)
Specific card choices:
Silence - This is to get through big taunts, it makes the big priest matchup A LOT better, especially with shadow visions.
Meat Wagon - This card is to make your board incredibly sticky, it can be used to combo with inner fire, however if you keep it at 1 attack it will summon a devilsaur egg which is typically the best summon.
Barnes - This card has a lot of options to high roll, plus it gives you two minions on turn 4.
Shadow Ascendant - This card can win you the game if it's left unchecked. It's great for if you play cleric and your opponent plays a flame imp, this will buff the cleric to kill the flame imp. It's a fab target for talon priest to keep the buff train rolling and it's not uncommon to go off with a divine spirit inner fire combo.
Defender of Argus - Our long lost friend for a bygone era! This card is there to create awkward board states for your opponent to deal with. It works wonderfully with the eggs and clerics and can also give you that little bit extra health to lethal someone with spirit inner fire.
This deck is fun, but not cutting it for me at a shit rank of 15. Too much aggro destroys this deck at that rank. Grats on legend! Keep interesting decks like this coming :)
I used it to climb from 24 to 5 in two days. Its only true counters are quest mage and zoolock.
not playing against agro deck, if u don't have ideal start hand
Doing well with this deck, no tweaks, rank 5, 0 star to rank 3 over an hr plus, only 1 loss against a prince-shadowstep-prince turn 2 rogue.
suggestion gameplan, unless with other plays, choosing divine spirit from visions would be better when behind, allow minion to stick onboard or 1 step closer to a otk gameplan
when ahead, very tough for most common used decks to turn around if u play smart.
thumbs up for this
This looks like fun! I'm eager to give it a try, though I'm lacking in Meat Wagon and Cairne. I've got a couple ideas on what I could replace them with... Crystaline Oracle, Curious Glimmerroot and Tar Creeper seem like good options.
What would you suggest?
Edit: I'm trying out Elise and Corpse Raiser. I'll let you know how it fares...

is cairne replacable, please?
thanks.
Check out the HSreplays I posted, try to mimic the plays that I made, it'll help ya learn how to play the deck. This deck has a very high skill cap, it's not something that you can pick up instantly and be good at. Keep at it and you'll get there! :D
.
Any replacement for Cairne and 2nd shadow vision?
very nice deck, 5-1 so far, the hardest enemy is quest warrior which use a lot of taunts
-1 Visions +1 Priest of feast
here my 2 games vs Druid and Mage. enjoy :)
*edit: right now 9-1 and reach rank 10. thanks for deck

this is one of the most fun decks i've played in a while, you really need a good hand to win some match-ups though
+1
edit: (7-0) seems pretty good too
Breakfast Priest but no Priest of the Feast? ;p
Anyway, cheers for the deck. +1
I wonder why it's called "breakfast" then!?
PS: any idea if cairne is replaceable? I'd prefer not to have to craft this card tbh (although a few decks are using him right now, once the meta shifts inDec/Jan it may become null and void.
1st game Taunt Warrior who keeps removing my minions and at some point plays Geist so i can't do the combo anymore
2nd game Zoolock who just fills the board with cheap minions which i can't remove and at some point buffing them up with Scalebanes and Bonemares
3rd game Tempo Rogue basically the same as Zoolock
4th game Aggro Druid basically the same as Zoolock and Tempo Rogue
5th game (first win yay!) Razakus priest who plays Bishop turn 8 before playing Raza or Kazakus and realises he has duplicates now in his deck xD
So how the flying fuck can you actually do anything with this deck?!
You can't. You can safely concede if you don't have tempo on turn 3.
Aka FAB priest
Such a great contribution to the discussion.
I don't get it. I assume you were being sarcastic with this comment, but how is his statement not contributing. Just because it is an opinion that isn't "Wow, this deck is great!" doesnt mean that it isn't still contributing to the discussion. Maybe, he shouldn't be using curse words or whatever to make his point but c'mon, really?
Yes, I was being sarcastic. And yes, really. AezaEU identifies two conditions under which "this deck is shit."
1. This deck is shit if you don't get your early drops. I don't consider this to be much of a contribution because it's true of just about every deck in the game.
2. This deck is shit if you "are constantly facing fucking priests one after another." There are several issues preventing this part of AezaEU's statement from being a positive contribution. Most egregious is the fact that Priest is listed as a good match-up in the original post. AezaEU missed the opportunity to enlighten us as to why the match-up is actually a poor one or to describe his approach to those match-ups so we could learn from his mistakes. Presumably, there were mistakes seeing as how the creator of the deck was able to get top ten legend. There is also the fact that AezuEU was so busy being petulant that the hypocrisy of complaining about running into priests while playing as a priest was completely lost.
I'm fine with the fucking curse words. It's the childish attitude that bothered me.
