Proof that I play Hearthstone too much, can make good decks and play them well:

Proof that the Keleseth Rogue deck posted on my twitter on 4th November 2017 is the best deck on the ladder right now (61.5% winrate over >1,600 games at time of writing):

My name is Meati. I'm a doctor/try-hard Hearthstoner from Cambridge, U.K. I've reached #1 legend 4 times. I recently started using statistics (hsreplay.net) to improve my decks and play, and the results have been beautiful. Finished #5 legend EU last month using a selection of optimised decks.

This guide focusses on the best of these decks: my Keleseth Rogue, which takes Ike's Dreamhack-winning list and replaces Barnes and a Cold Blood with two Saronite Chain Gangs. The guide is broken down into the three skill-based aspects of Hearthstone: Card Choices, Mulligan, and Play.

1) Card Choices

I spent 30 minutes on hsreplay.net looking at Rogue decks to work out which commonly used cards were performing well, and which ones weren't. Commonly used cards, such as Tar Creeper, Xaril and Spellbreaker, performed worse than rarely seen cards such as The Lich King and Saronite Chain Gang. I chose to include cards with the highest associated winrates when drawn.

I recently started to use this method of deck construction for all my decks, with huge success, and I would highly recommend hsreplay.net as a tool for Deck optimisation.

2) Mulligan

Below I present statistics from 1,600 games worth of data (constantly updating at hsreplay.net/decks/O3Iz0T59fLN96qMAV6PbOd:

Obviously, Mulligan varies depending on matchup, but in general you should mulligan for Prince Keleseth, Backstab, Shaku, the Collector, Southsea Captain and Edwin Van Cleef.

Versus Aggressive decks, add Swashburgler, Southsea Deckhand, Fire Fly and SI:7 Agent to mulligan.

Versus Slow decks, add Cobalt Scalebane to mulligan.

With Prince Keleseth in hand, also keep Shadowstep.

With Fire Fly in hand versus slow decks, also keep Cold Blood.

3) Play

Playing this deck can be simplified to:

Versus Aggressive decks, control the board.

Versus Control decks, smack 'em in the face.

In every game, use as much mana as you can every turn in early turns.

However, the deck takes many games to master, and I am still learning myself after over 100 games. The best way to get better at playing is to give the deck a try yourself!

I have included some more specific tips below:

  • In current Meta, using cards to buff Edwin Van Cleef above 6/6 are generally wasted (except versus Druid and very early in the game). I lean towards holding some cards back for future combos, rather than going all in on a Papa Edwin.
  • Cold Blood is much better used as soon as possible when you have 1 spare mana to push damage to face. Don't save it until the turn you kill your opponent!
  • There are many good Shadowstep targets in the deck. If you spot a good opportunity to use Shadowstep, you should probably do it. It's really easy for Shadowstep to get stranded in the hand.

Thanks for reading my guide, I hope you enjoy the deck!
