If the Lich King isn't working well for you, Ysera is another great option. Both of them accomplish the same task (increasing threat density, creating a second win condition, and improving barnes pulls), but the one you should run is based on the match-ups that you want to improve. Ysera is much slower and less defensive, but the dream cards generally have more synergy with the deck, and give you more burst damage. The Lich King is more defensive and cheaper (this is a big deal when you're overloading for many of your turns in the late game). However, the trade of is that many of the DK cards don't have as good synergy with the deck. Basically Ysera is better against control and the Lich King is better against aggro.
I've been testing a few different versions of a control/N'Zoth, the Corruptor Shaman and I used this list as a base for my second iteration! I have a few questions that will hopefully help both of us out on getting a better build!
1) How much do you like Barnes in here? I find that I'm too far behind against aggro to play him on curve and he just doesn't help enough in control matchups.
2) With Maelstrom Portal, Devolve, Lightning Storm, and Volcano does it ever feel like too much AoE? With this list I found my hand clogged with situational cards far too often whether is be AoE, Ancestral Spirit, or even N'Zoth, the Corruptor prior to getting valuable deathrattles.
3) When I first looked at this list I was surprised to not see Stonehill Defender for the extra copies of White Eyes and to help in the early game. Did you have them in at one point and take them out? If so what did you take them out for?
I like the list, keep doing what you're doing! Here's to hoping we can get some kind of decent control Shaman rolling!
Edits: Card links
1. In this list in perticular, Barnes has won me so many games due to the high chance of pulling something good, or pulling something big and using ancestral spirit on it. I've tried cutting it but the deck is just better. Maybe if you ran stonehill defenders it would get a little worse.
2. Before this version, I was running a more midrangey version of the deck and volcano absolutely clogged my hand. With this version it isn't as much of an issue, but it still can be probalematic. On the other hand, if you don't have a clear on queue you lose. Maybe a solution would be to cut some of the other situational cards you mentioned for more card draw which this deck definitely could use more of.
3. I had stonehill defenders in the deck and initially liked them, but after cutting them in this list for loothoarders and adding some more late game with The Lich King I just began doing better.
Overall, I feel as if the deck would be viable if it had a little more healing to stabilize and it had more card draw.
Edit: I added 2x Acolyte and took out ancestral spirit. I'm also trying Hallazeal over the Lich King but I'm not sure about that yet. The added card draw definitely makes the deck better. Also, Acolyte combos well with volcano.
Thanks for the reply!
I think the Stonehill pulls from Barnes were what turned me off of him. I'll have to do some more testing.
I think Hallazel is too slow in most situations as you want to play it with either lightning storm or Volcano...
I started running Mistress of Mixtures for extra healing and I've really like them so far. The only issue is that with the Loot Hoarders and Mistresses you can low roll pretty hard on he N'zoth turn.
I'm finding that I generally want a bigger push to close out games. I'm not sure how to do that with yet but I do think the deck is close to being viable.
Good luck against other control decks and Mages. Control shaman is just sadly to slow in the meta without a perfect draw and even then it's 50/50 at best.
After a short 0-3 run I've deleted this deck. But nice try.
1. You can go 0-3 with any deck, especially the first time you play it since there's a high chance one won't play the deck optimally if they haven't had experience with it. Also, with such a low sample size you can easily queue into the worst matchups everygame if you're unlucky.
2. More importantly, it's a theorycraft. The only way people figure out meta decks is by experimenting. If you like to win go play tokem Shaman. For many people, experimenting and playing off meta decks is more fun.
How have your matchups vs mid hunter, temp mage and highlander priest been?
The matchup against highlander priest is dependent on how well the priest draws. If they draw Raza and Anduin on 5 and 8 respectively, you probably lose. Otherwise, the matchup isnt bad. Hunter and Mage are both good matchups. If you find that you are struggling somewhat against those two, all you have to do is tech in more healing.
