F2P Gothik the Harvester Paladin
Hi everyone and welcome to this week's Heroic Military Quarter's guides. I'm MrPLJ and today I have attempted to build F2P decks to beat those demonic bosses. For the second boss, we want to do our best to outrun Gothink the Harvester.
Background Information
Gothik is a bit of a nuisance, his hero power basically lets him draw an extra card and gets an extra mana crystal every turn for (1) mana. What this means is that he will be ramping until he reaches 10 mana, at which point it becomes a free draw. His hero power is automatic, which means he will use it at the beginning of his turn no matter what.
His minions can also become a nuisance, his Unrelenting Trainee, Unrelenting Warrior and Unrelenting Knight once dealt with will come back as spectral beings on your side of the field dealing 1 damage at the start of your turn.
The Strategy
- Before I go into mulligans, let me set out a simple rule... Don't go for the face! It's usually a waste of time and turn, unless there are no minions on Gothik's side. Your goal is to fatigue him and your minions are used mainly for trading. The only time I have attacked the face whilst there where other minions on the board was to restore 2 HP from Truesilver Champion whilst dangerously low on HP.
- You want to mulligan for an Equality and Wild Pyromancer, and other low drops. Wild Pyromacer and Equality is a (4) mana combo that will help you clear the board quickly, from both your and the opponent's side of the board, but use it scarcely as you will most likely need it around late mid-game unless you are overwhelmed.
- The early-game is all about surviving and making smart trades. You want to make sure you use all your minions and crash them into other minions with a 2-for-1 trade in mind. Buff up the spectral minion you get from Gothik, these are great traders!
- One way to deal efficiently with the board is to use an Equality whilst there is an Unstable Ghoul or an Abomination and a minion on your side of the field to attack. This will be an instant board clear without the use of Wild Pryromancer. Try to remember the order in which the minions where set so that you can control the chain effect of Deathrattle to your advantage. Don't forget to set up those Nerubian Eggs before you are thinking of doing one of these combos.
- An extra thing to remember is that your Hero Power summons a 1/1 Silver Hand Recruit which will trade very efficiently against minions with 1 health, plus Gothik usually ignores them until you use Equality ;)
- One way to make sure that you use the Spectral beings efficiently, is to always remember to summon your minions to the left, as the Spectres will arrive on the right. Once you have two on your side of the board, you can use a Defender of Argus to shield yourself and gain value from Gothik's Minions.
- Save your face and shield it as much and as best as you can! Once again, your goal is not to go for the face, it's to fatigue Gothik and be more efficient than him in trades and use of spells so that he runs out of cards in both his deck and hand before you (and dies from fatigue)!
I hope this guide and deck will help you beat the odds thrown your way. I personally have a 50% win rate against Gothik with this deck... It's a really tough match to say the least. It depends mainly how you manage to clear the board, foresee chain effects/combos and restore your health.
If you need help with the rest of the Military Quarter, check out F2P Heroic Instructor Razuvious and F2P Gothik the Harvester . Good luck!
Edit: I have added a clip from Kizaru1 who has done a great job beating Gothik with this deck! Send him your love on Youtube ;)
That's quite interesting, why did you think you needed a Youthful Brewmaster in the deck? What does it do?
I went for Harvest Golem as it is a great 3 drop which usually trades 2-for-1.
Basically it lets you swap out and reuse cards that have already been played so I could get an extra "Battlecry" when needed. It just made my deck more versatile so I wasn't as dependent on getting a perfect draw in order to win.
Upvoted. It took a a few tries, but it finally paid off. As has been the case, it really depends on how the boss opens out.
Nice deck, worked on the first try for me.
Unlike the rogue and priest decks this one does not need the perfect draw to work.
Nice detalied guide, thank man.
I don't have sunwalkers so i use 1 lord of arena and 1 fen creeper.
As usual for heroic bosses u need to basically have good/perfect starting hand in order to win.
My best guess for Alexstraza and maybe even Sylvanas would be a Sunwalker and maybe Guardian so you don't mess the curve too much and go for only late game minions. However, since you are removing a taunt minion, try and play Sylvanas with a Sunfury or a Defender to protect your face.
Luck draw deck. Much like for every other boss fight required in naxx. FFs blizzard get some originality
I will quote Banur to answer your question:
I think it could be, but my only problem is that this deck is suppose to be slow and therefore getting value out of a Divine Favor seems rather slim. I would try and add 1 in the deck and see how it goes, because in the end-game, this card will most definitely become a dead draw.
Beautiful deck, took him out on 2nd attempt despite only having one each of a couple of key cards like Aldor Peacekeeper and Wild Pyromancer.
Should have seen the smile on my face when he hit fatigue - and kept on using his hero power every turn to increase the pain.
Not having any luck with this deck, your draw is everything with this deck.
for real though, 2 days in a row and I can't get past this little poop harvester. any luck yet?
Excellent deck! Made it on the 2nd try after the Guardians just wouldn't show up for clutch healing on the 1st try. Once you got him down to just his 2 cards per turn it is really easy and you can consider going for face if there is no reason to just run your minions into his ones or if you got enough minions to keep anything at bay.
Nice deck! Effective and super fun to play. Got it third try after starting with Wild Pyromancer, Equality and Consecration.
Man it was a nail-biter though! Thanks for the help =)
I've always wondered this, but why do a lot of decks say that they are F2P but include expert cards that you have to unlock through packs or crafting? I always thought F2P meant a deck comprising of only basic cards (thus all the cards you don't have to spend any extra money or time earning besides getting that hero up to level 10)?
What does F2P mean in this case then?
F2P refers to the fact that you can easily get these cards by playing long enough to get the gold for packs as opposed to non-F2P decks that run legendaries and epics. The zero dust decks are generally refered to as budget decks.
Thanks for the explanation, couldn't have said it any better myself :D
Thank you. A little confusing in the terminology since it would make more sense to call budget decks, "F2P." Since some the cards in those decks are completely free from the start and the rest after leveling your hero to 10. And vice versa, you're on a budget, but you have some dust/cards from packs, so you can afford some low cost decks. But I get it know.
Only took 2 tries. I found him easiest of the three, first guy with the runeswords toughest.
Thanks a lot, man! 2nd try. Spent ~2 hours before with mage and priest.
I didn't have 2nd peacekeeper, so I replaced him with Doomsayer, and that guy saves my butt)
