UPDATE 07/05/2017: Since I realized the deck gets out of fuel against more Control decks, I made some changes:
- - 2 Glacial Shard
- + 2 Arcane Missiles
- - 1 Mirror Image
- - 1 Shimmering Tempest
- + 1 Alextrasza
- + 2 Firelands Portal
- - 1 Freezing Potion
I thinks that's all, here you are some explanations: most of the time you won't get any value of Glacial Shard if you go first and therefore is kind of a "slot-occupying-card". Instead of Glacial Shard, I decided AMissiles were more efficient, for the same mana cost you can even clear early game board (watch out your RNG!). Two Mirror Image was too much, sometimes even being that card you don't want to draw in the late game (it happened to me several times). Same story with two Shimmering Tempest.
Alexstrasza has been giving me decent results against Shaman and Priest, mainly. Mulligan for Wyrms and Glyphs, control board and turn 9 is gg if he/she doesn't have big heals (even if so you have a lot of burst damage!). One tip that worked for me: try to freeze and fill the board on turn 8, so turn 9 will be Alexstrasza plus face damage with small minions! Finally, Freezing Potion wasn't working that good, you want it in the early game but at the same time you need Wyrms so mulligan was a bit tricky.
I'm testing the deck again with those changes and I think is pretty balanced, I mean Alex is not your win condition most of the time (except for control decks like NZoth Amara Priest but that's is insta concede...)
Hi there! I'm new here and I wanted to upload the deck I'm using these days, I'm having decent results. I'd say this isn't an expensive deck, if you don't have Thalnos you can use Cult Sorcerer instead (you won't draw that card though!).
Since I don't have all Karazhan cards, I put Shimmering Tempest instead, but if you have Babbling Book you should include it in the deck as well as Medivh's Valet. Good thing in this "Aggro Freeze" mage deck is that you can play either controlling the board if you face Hunter/PirateWarrior/Zoo by freezing their minions or hitting face if you encounter Druid, Shaman, Control Mage etc.
Leave your comments, I'm pretty sure this can be improved in several ways :)
How is this working for you so far, I wanna craft it but don't wanna waste my whole dust, can I least climb to rank 5?
Well I played the last two days not that much and I climbed from 20 to 15 easily... Today I'll play it one or two hours more to reach rank 10. Reach rank 5? It depends the kind of opponents you find, if you face hunter/pirates/miracle/exodia/druid is kind of doable, but if you face priest after priest or quest warrior...thats's insta concede my friend! What cards are you missing now? If you don't have certain cards you can replace them, depending of which ones you're missing of course.
Im missing almost all of them but I do have the dust to craft it with the exception of Thalnos, cant craft him right now, any suggestion?
And also with more dust what cards you would change and put instead to enhanced the deck?
He're you are some suggestions:
·Replace for Thalnos: free option is Kobold Geomancer (basic set), which is a 2 mana 2/2 with +1 spell damage. If you have Cult Sorcerer I highly recommend you to pick that one since it has better stats (3/2 for the same mana cost).
·Replace for Babbling Book: Shimmering Tempest (1 more mana), new card for mage from Un'Goro expansion, similar effect and just 40 dust.
·Replace for Alexstrasza: this is an interesting point. Most of people say it has no replace, but from my experience playing mage (the hero I've played the most) Alex doesn't hit opponents face for the entire 15 damage, but rather for 8-11. This means you can replace Alex with a second Pyroblast, obviously not better but cheaper (400 dust vs. 1600 dust).
·Replace for Ice Block: rather impossible to replace this cards since it is unique! It gives you an extra turn to finish your opponent. I'd say Ice Barrier could make the trick, but I wouldn't be honest hahaha I think you really need this card for almost every Mage deck nowadays.
·Replace for Primordial Glyph: same story as with Ice Block. I mean, if you really don't want to craft it, you can craft one Cabalist's Tome (one epic instead of two) and put another Shimmering Tempest to give you that extra card, however, PG is so good 'cause it gives you whatever you need at 2 mana most of the time, that without taking into account synergy with Mana Wyrm or Sorcerer's Apprentice.
All other cards are either from basic set (which means they're free) or classic set, but except for Coldlight Oracle they're Common and therefore easy to craft (you might even have them since they're form classic set and for sure you've opened a lot of classic packs, or maybe not and I'm totally wrong hahaha).
Regarding you second question. I'd use the dust to craft the cards on the list since there's no legendary/epic card that can (imho) make the deck stronger. Don't take me wrong, you could craft Meteor or similar but, why would you need board clears in an aggro archetype? All you need is draw and stall while filling the board to burn down you opponent asap, except for more control decks, where you need to Alex their face. Burn Mage deck versions include Medivh The Guardian, but 1) you cannot craft Medivh 'cause you get him from Karazhan Adventure 2) is a slow play and, except for Pyroblast and Firelands Portal, you don't have expensive spells. However you can try him and tell us the result!
Hope this post helps, cheers
Dem man!!! I really appreciate the time you took to make this post and explain things, it really helped me and I do wanna try it out.
